The school I presently teach now asked me same question,but I made my research b4 the interview. and I gave the actual amount beginners earn in the sch which is 40k,that was d last question and I resumed that same day. make research b4 interview.

I tried finding out, even asked people here on nairaland. They were saying btwn 60-80.. So I just pegged my number at 70. Just tried playing safe but who knows

I once attended an interview.When the question came on salary expectation I said 200k.One of the candidate that also came for the interview requested 150k.I was eventually given the job despite I requested for 200k.So don't give up.If you did well they will definately come for you.

lol....The truth is desperation to land any job at all always makes job seekers to under value themselves and call any figure at all when the salary issue is raised in the recruitment process. I was also guilty of this,the desperation of wanting to land the job, not wanting to sit back at home and the start counting months after service is one of the reasons people tend to call this low salary figure.
However, standard organizations don't base ur slary on the jargons u mouth as salary figure during interviews. Am a living witness, where i currently work now, I was asked for my salary expectations, and as usual i just said something that I feel is at least fair to both parties, but still the interviewers tried cutting it down , and even asked if they shouldn't bother getting back to me if i can't go lower. But God helped me answer the question intelligently. Lo and behold my salary in my offer letter was twice the figure I mentioned during the interview. Even my friend where he works now, he asked for a little over a million as salary figure, but his offer letter showed his salary to be over 2million

Sometimes it's a waste of time looking for white collar jobs. My tiler worked for me on three toilets. In 8hrs, he was through with two of his boys. In short, everything is equal to 15k. Do I make that from my 'big man' office in 3days?

My new year resolution I won't do any job below 150k otherwise let me continue frying my plantain atleast am my own manager with portfolio

U didn't carry out any background research on the company before heading for that interview? Could cost you that job If you down play or over shoot on their / your range. A little background check could have done the magic! Wish you luck!

The main reason for asking u ur salary preference is to know if u knew about the company you applied to..

THE RIGHT ANSWER
Is to pick a salary range like ur friends did, not too low and not too high THEN most especially and importantly tell the employer that its negotiable.
