But you seem to argue that man has no consciousness that survives death, and as such, anything resembling the departed can only be demons.

Soul Sleep is the name given to this doctrine. Among its proponents are Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists and so forth

There is another option. There is a conscious human spirit that survives death but they are displaced from the land of the living to await resurrection/judgement.

This is what Jesus taught indirectly in the Rich Man and Lazarus Parable in Luke 16.

In the same Exclesiastes ever favorite among Soul Sleep proponents, we come across this;

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Question is, what is this 'spirit' that goes upward or downward? Is it conscious, or is this a mere figure of speech? And if it is a figure of speech, why would it puzzle the Preacher?

From beyond he grave the Rich man had a consciousness as did Lazarus and also memory of his life on earth.

Yes sir... I agree with that. The building and development of our spirits is imperative. We need to get to a place where our actions, decisions and everything we do is in sync with the Holy Spirit... The scriptures says he that is joined to the Lord is ONE spirit with him. Ephesians 4:3 also says 'endeavouring to keep the UNITY of the Spirit in the bond of peace... That oneness and unity must be perpetually maintained if we are going to please God and fulfill his purpose for our lives.

May the Lord help us all to build our spirits unto maturity. I believe it isn't something instantaneous but progressive. We will continue to grow in the Spirit as we yield ourselves to God.

Haba bro... I haven't said anything about suspending our reasoning faculties . Read my earlier post well. I said they (intellect and brain) are wonderful avenues but the Spirit takes the first place in the life of the believer. I further went ahead to even say I already have a second degree and may even proceed. Get me right please. Our minds, brain et al have their great functions. They were given to us by the Lord to use them effectively as we go about our daily lives.

There are times what we know or have learnt will be in contrast with the Spirit. At those moments, what we need to do is of course let the Spirit lead while we suspend what we know in the natural.

I am not in support of spiritual extremists who suspend their reasoning faculty when it isn't even appropriate to do so. We have to balance things here so we don't find ourselves at the extreme of two lines.

These two ought to give you all the confidence to step out.

I see Peter as an extremely rational being. He is 'testing the spirits'. Remember the disciples were at first afraid that they were seeing ghosts. Peter DARES Jesus to prove himself and willingly risks his life while at it.

Trusting God against all odds is not suspending reason; God is all-powerful and the most reasonable thing to do is to trust the most powerful being...this informed Moses signs in front of Pharaoh, or Daniel interpretation of Nebchadnezzer dreams when everyone else had failed.

When I say faith is not the opposite of reason I mean God does not discard our intellect when using us, He works through whatever He has already deposited in us.

What we need is humility in appreciating that God's ways are way above our ways and even at our best, we may not grasp it. This means subjecting our intellectual faculties to His Word and Will. But Hod would never punish us for trying to understand Him. Moses said the secret things belong to God but those He has revealed is for us and our children. This means there is a realm God expects us to employ our faculties.

Sometimes back in college I learnt that delegates power can't be delegated. There was a Latin maxim for this. When I study Genesis, I see a perfect example of this. God instructs Adam to name animals. He leaves him to the task. Imagine Adam going back to God to ask Him which names he should give!

The point is, God had placed in Adam CAPACITY to carry out this exercise and He expected Adam to use it. Likewise, God has given us intellectual capacity to relate to Him. We should not shy away from using it to do just that all the while acknowledging its limits.

Children of God who are not sensitive in these last days will have themselves to blame. You have to be prayerful, careful and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, particularly because there are mixed multitudes all around the Church today. There are even churches that belong to Satan but have the appearance of belonging to Jesus Christ. There are also demonic agents prowling around and deceiving people. If you are not very watchful, you will become one of their victims. That will not be your portion in Jesus' Name.
Although God wants His children to hear from Him and get His best, one factor inhibiting this is the fact that they have idols in their hearts which prevent them from hearing from Him clearly. You can be seeking God's face for direction but also be hoarding idols in your heart. If you really want the Almighty God to guide you, you have to eradicate all forms of idols from your life.
There are many singles in the Body of Christ today who are not yet married even though they are of age. Some of them have allowed idols in their hearts for so long a time that they have not been able to look in the direction God is leading them to. For a user of this devotional trusting God for a marriage partner, the Lord will direct your steps in Jesus' Name. You can never get anything better than what God has in store for you.
You will observe that after the Lord made Eve out of Adam, Adam had no difficulty recognising his wife (Genesis 2:22-23). Once your spirit man is highly sensitive, you will always receive God's signal on the right thing to do each time (Isaiah 42:16).
There are many homes experiencing frustration today. It is because they have not allowed the voice of God to speak to them. God has spoken, but they have all along been listening to the idols in their heart. Not all that glitters is gold. Not all open doors are opened by God. If you really want the blessings of God in your life and home, you have to eradicate the voices of all the idols in your heart. Even if you are totally blind, as long as you depend on God for direction, His promises for your life will lead you to where you will find rest for your soul. Hmmm.@nnamdiosu and analice, thanks for the response This world is full of mysteries. My question now is that is there a similar case of a person suffering from this spiritual spouse syndrome in d Bible? It's important we know so dat we can deal with it the way it was dealt with in d Bible.

This spiritual husband and wife of a thing is true. As I have certain people that have been affected by this in one way or the other. some people may not even know they have got spiritual wife or husband..Some actually die in the process while some make so called "peace with the spirits".

Some of this spirits are so wicked that they kill any male suitor that comes into the life of there victim.

“Because that she had been married to seven husbands, whom Asmodeus the evil spirit had killed, before they had lain with her. Dost thou not know, said they, that thou hast strangled thine husbands? thou hast had already seven husbands, neither wast thou named after any of them.”
King James Version (KJV) Tobit 3:8.

This should even go out as a warning to men to pray and seek the face of God before marriage. I know of a man who told me his experience he said after few months of getting married to his wife his business started experiencing bad times. Then it got to a stage when he became aggressive to the wife and they where always quarreling everything his wife does seemed to irritate him. He said there where times when he hit his wife and would only realize what he has done after the action.

Things went from bad to worse they started thinking of separating but eventually the wife got her deliverance and there life was back on track again and children started coming.

Another lady whom I know closely told me that when ever she was pregnant she would fall into a trance and the spirit husband will come and make love to her or at times even rape her if she resisted and she will have a miscarriage after the whole action...it was so bad that even when on the bed with her hubby the spirit guy comes to molest her and she miscarriages. she got delivered along the line.

Then some people don't have to be spirits to be your spiritual wife or husband..Some people have foul spirits and when you date them depending on how involved they are with you ...spiritually they become like wife or husband and once they don't agree with what you want to do you won't experience success even when you break up with them things may not even go well because they are still attached to you spiritually as a wife or husband..so you will have to pray to break away from every unholy bond.

I know off a friend who was dating a particular girl and he was making a plan in which the babe wasn't in support off do you know that plan didn't come to fruition. A friend of his who is spiritually sound told him that he had a dream and in that dream some one was handing him a gift and this his girl friend and fiancee appeared and snatched the gift. After the break up my friend had to engage in prayers to break away from every form of attachment or bond he had with the girl.

I have my own personal experience but that's a story for some other time.

Growing up I never really knew why I could tell of certain things before they happened. I could see something happen a few hours before it plays up and no, i'm not asleep, my eyes aren't closed and I'm not dreaming. I'm not even thinking of that person or that thing at the time. I didn't know I had the spirit of discernment. I could tell and know stuff just by looking and I could also tell the kind of a person one was by interacting if for a few minutes. Sometimes i'd pass by someone(i attended a girls only school) and the next thing my spirit whispers; that person is a witch! But I don't always take it to heart. Back to seeing things before they happen, I don't always believe or give it much thought until it eventually happens and I'm like ooooh I did see this and now it's happening. Other times, if it's about some one I tell them and they are like ; are you sure? To prevent anyone from thinking me weird I just keep quiet and act like it was nothing.

I also can remember a lot of things from my childhood my parents don't even remember happening. I was always thirsty for the paranormal n sought answers because I was well aware of a sense of spirituality I couldn't decipher. That led me to reading books like: you forever, I believe, the third eye and the doctor from lastha or so, all by the Buddhist priest renowned for his controversial books: lobsang tuesday rampa from Tibet. I had also read various other books that talked about a lot of metaphysical stuff the ordinary mind couldn't comprehend because I was searching for answers to things I didn't understand. Alas I was also very much active with things related to God as I also studied the bible and read various books from great men of God. In time I realized the teachings of those dark books if practised would only open me up to demon possession and a total drift from God so I stopped and started searching for truth the right way.

Many a time I was sick and would always find myself fighting demons and the likes even in my sick physical state after which I got better. I even had an experience where a supposed senior who was a witch tried physically to lure me to her coven but failed as I had that discerning spirit that already told me never to associate with her. She was upset she couldn't get me physically and of course came in my dream during our mid term break. I remember it like it was yesterday. She was dragging me by the hand and I was just on the ground telling her to leave me alone. She kept pulling me yelling you must come with me. In the physical she is shorter than I(i was in js1 @ the time) but in that dream, she was bigger and taller with blazing eyes. Eventually she didn't succeed cos I renounced her there and then and when I eventually got to school the next term she never bothered me again.

No, I can't see demons or spirits or angels but I could feel the presence of an extra terrestrial being and know if it's evil or not.

I had this encounter in my 3rd year in school, I believe the guy was demon possessed cos he told me of how he was supposedly delivered at some point but I didn't even bother. This guy always behaved strangely and would always want to keep me up every night in the name of midnight call. This particular night, we were on the phone as usual and somehow I slept off and it seemed like I was in a trance and the guy I was on the phone with was supposedly sitting next to me on my bed : asking me to make promises never to leave him else I was going to be ruined, and I said but why would you ask me to make such a promise and I refused and this guy is no longer a guy but becomes a girl and starts trying to touch me and I scream and run to the next room and the spirit chases after me( understand it now takes the stance of a female from being a male) in the next room, I start to yell the name of some other lady to rescue me and the spirit somehow was stopped short and couldn't come into the room. The person i'd run to eventually says; who is that, leave her(that's me) alone and then we start praying in that dream. I woke up and realise what was going on in the spirit how supposedly I was almost possessed and I started to pray so hard. Opening my eyes I realised this guy is still on the phone like nothing happened. I quickly ended the call and prayed all through. The manifestation in the spirit brought me to a knowing and I knew I God had saved me frm something I would never understand.



P:S - a lot is happened that time is made me forget but as I remember I would put them down.

1.) Can someone help to define...
a) Spirit
b) Soul.
Also how can we effectively differentiate between the two(spirit and soul).

2.) How can we develop/feed the spirit and the soul.
