Sincerely I am not aware of any discrepancy in the date of his birth, to the best of my knowledge it is globally accepted to be 12th of Rabiul Awwal. But I will make my findings.

I am only aware of the discrepancy in celebration, maybe it should be or not be celebrated.

Definitely the most influential man ever liveth; Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) ought to be celebrated as he also did by earmarking Monday, the day of his birth to fast in commemoration of his birth. This has now become a sunnah. It is not everybody that has the strenght to fast and since the fasting is not a wajib then I can choose to celebrate this worhty and highly placed prophet whichever way I deem fit in as much as I am not transgressing and the intention is good and pure. Hadith 1 give credence to that "action shall be judge according to intention".
