The killings of shitte in zaria has nothing to do with the sunni. Shitte are claiming an authority and they think they are above the law. what ever kind of law stated in the country the shitte can boast of goiin against it, they dont ask but they take, they feel they are unstoppable.
Stopping high profile men from passage was a normal thing, even when they are not performing any occation as long as their leader is passing, then every body must stop.
the shitte once stopped late rilwanu lukman former minister of petroleum from passage, he has to turn back and cancel his appointment. Followed by the emire of zaria as it even went brutal when his body guards tried using force, the king manage to escape the scene with broken glasses on his car. Earlier this year they stopped a whole governor yero from passage as he was patient and ask his security men not to take any actions. Finally they went further to stop a whole COAS, meeehn they have gone too far this time.

It is obvious that the killings of shitte was not just because they refuse to give passage, but because they where on the black list of this government. there cannot be two government in a country, one must fall. the government have security report of weapons they posseses, they have security report of soldiers his raising, the shitte is a treat to this givernment.

Finally, what I observe with nigerian soldiers is that it dosnt matter whether if you are shitte or sunni, whether christian or pagan, whether ipob or massob, whether hausa , yoruba or igbo, if you mess up with them, they will just waste you.
Seems u leave in Zaria, talking about the first hand account of events u have up there.

I can actually relate to ur views on this shiite - NA saga. U really have a good understanding of the situation and I commend that.

Also, in as much as the activities(face off with IPOB & Shiite) of the NA in recent weeks is no way commendable, I still find encouraging the fact that they (NA) have not been compromised/polarized on religious or ethnic lines.

I agree with you, What transpired between the COAS and shitte could be solved with a single shot of tear gas and voila! The road is cleared. But already the sect have been blacklisted, the military where just waiting for them to sail close to the wind so that they will take drastic action on them.

The ugly truth is; the Nigerian Army is not to be blamed over the shiite massacre. We all watched the video where the shiite miscreants had a violent confrontation with the convoy of the COAS. To make matter worse, they were saying only Mallam (i.e Sheik Zakzaky) could order them to give way. The question is; who tha f.uck is Sheik Zakzaky in Nigeria? Since when did Nigeria turn to Lebanon or Iran? If an ordinary local imam could waylay a whole COAS in a secular Nation like Nigeria, and on a road built by the FG, then the Ayatollah of Iran had just been sworn in as the new President of Nigeria.

Instead of the foolish Sheik to chastise his miscreants & call them to order, they were bent on committing suicide by clashing with a standing Army over some religious myth & lies, watered & propagated by a blatant liar who claimed to have received some mind-boggling & brainwashing revelations from Angel Gabriel a.k.a Elohim Nusku - who coincidentally happened to be 1 of the Anunnaki extraterrestrials that came to Earth from the Planet of Nibiru.

Africa is really doomed and we will never acknowledge the immense damage that religion has done to brainwash & transform our people into humanoid robots & zombies - Nna Mehn, I'm outta here!

I completely agree with you.

Fellow Nairalanders,

When accessing a case, we need to be objective. The world saw the video, and whether they started it or not, the COAS should have also considered all the outcomes should they confront the issue wrongly. Two wrongs can never make a right. Nigeria is not the only country were sectional protest happens and the military then gets all violent. You trying to meet a deadline for a group of miscreants, and then kick off another... that doesn't make sense.

Going brutal won't solve anything in a democratic setting. It's a protest. If the COAS didn't feel like God, he could have pulled back understanding the bigger picture could callin the Police and asked the IGP to send his men to contain the situation. Forcing his way through Ofcourse won't happen without casualties, plus the innocent and the offenders. You don't want a religious sect to start growing unnecessary wings.

He should have applied wisdom and not force. I recall when Jonathan visited the north east during the election period and his convoy was stoned and he had ordered a retaliation for such treasonable offense. I doubt if APC would still have a country to rule. Furthermore, Impunity is becoming to evident in this government. Disregards of court orders, brutal and barbaric approach to arresting non indicted persons, consistent disregard for the rule of law, suppressing the rights to freedom of speech, association and to fair hearing... All these are anti democratic practices that need to be curbed by all means necessary if we really want to progress.

We moved 16 years forward and 30 years backward is what it seems.

Nigerians wake up.

Bros, have you read the address by the Kaduna State Govt on the issue? It is clear from the Kaduna State govt press release that the shiite was a lawless sect, disobeying govt laws at will. In fact, let me paste the speech here for you and others cheering up the shiites:

State broadcast ON THE CLASH BETWEEN THE ARMY AND SHIITES:
Text of State broadcast by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, on the recent security issues in Zaria; 17
December 2015
Dear People of Kaduna State,
We have witnessed sad events in Zaria and a part of Kaduna metropolis over the last few days. As your Governor, it is my duty to address you on the incidents, and explain the events that preceded the tragedy of last weekend. We shall also outline how we intend to prevent a recurrence.
As you are aware, military operations have taken place in Zaria between Saturday, 12 December and Monday, 14 December 2015. There have been tragic consequences and needless loss of lives, and we extend our condolences to the families that have been affected. In this sombre moment, we have also directed that steps be taken to address the humanitarian fallouts of the operations. The State Government is carrying out after action review of the theatre of operations with a view to compensating those whose vehicles, real property and other assets were damaged as a result.
The Kaduna State Government has been informed that on Saturday, 12 December 2015, the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, reported an ambush and attempted assassination at a roadblock mounted by members of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky's Islamic Movement of Nigeria. Clashes broke out as soldiers mounted operations to repel the attack, remove the obstruction to a major public highway, and to contain and arrest the perpetrators. When the security agencies sent reports of the clash to me a little after 3pm on that day, I initiated steps that I thought could calm the situation. I called Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on the phone to get his side of the story, and thereafter visited Zaria for on-the-spot briefing and assessment and visited the Chief of Army Staff.
The army and the police have since addressed the press on the security operations and the aftermath. We have also seen video clips aired on national television and online to show the extent to which the Nigerian Army tried to reason with the persons that were intent on obstructing a public highway without any justification. The avoidable weekend tragedy in Zaria has a background based on information available to the Kaduna State Government.
What the Kaduna State Government has learnt Based on reports from government organs and security agencies, we have learnt the following:
• There had been tension in parts of Zaria since Thursday, 10 December 2015, when members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria were alleged to have attacked Gabari, a community on the outskirts of Zaria, in continuation of a dispute over a mosque. Like the previous attack, this
second assault on Gabari also took three lives. The alleged bone of contention was that the El-Zakzaky movement wanted to take over a mosque they did not build in Gabari. The mosque had been sealed by the authorities following the collapse of the arrangements that had enabled various sects to amicably share its usage.
• In the last two weeks, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria has also illegally occupied federal roads. Over a period of four days, they took over one side of the federal expressway between Kaduna and Zaria, and the roads to Kano and Katsina. They entered schools along these routes, using them as rest and recreation points without notice or permission or any concern about the disruption of academic activities.
• The Husainiyah building, the headquarters of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, was put up without statutory title to the land, and in outright defiance of a stop-work notice issued by KASUPDA in 2010. When KASUPDA followed up with a demolition notice in the same year, the then
authorities chose to look the other way, and allowed the sect to complete a building that had neither title nor planning approval, and which the appropriate agency had determined was in violation of planning and development regulations.
• The successful completion of this illegal building on a major road subsequently led to a pattern of inconveniences being inflicted on members of the general public. There were various reports and complaints that the sect was harassing members of the public, and inflicting hardship on
commuters. At their headquarters and in other areas where Zakzaky’s movement had structures, they had tried to forcibly acquire the property of their neighbours; this is apart from subjecting residents to an illegal curfew.
• Government also received reports that the Islamic Movement of Nigeria acted like a parallel state, with total disdain for the formal structures of the Nigerian government and little regard for the rights of non-members. Whenever community, traditional or political leaders invite the sect to dispute resolution meetings, they often declined the invitations. In addition, members of the movement are alleged to openly carry and use offensive weapons.
• Following the Zaria incident, Shiite members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria have tried to upset the peace in parts of Kaduna. The security forces have responded firmly to the situation in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna Metropolis. Violent actions by sect members on Tuesday, 15 December 2016, included the use of Molotov cocktails and petrol bombs against the security forces.Judicial Commission of Inquiry to be established As the security operations in Zaria are wound-down, the Kaduna State Government is persuaded that it is vital, for reasons of accountability and transparency, that a factual and authoritative account of the events be painstakingly assembled. The Kaduna State Government has therefore decided that under the powers conferred on me by the Tribunals of Inquiry Act, a Judicial Commission of Inquiry
will be established to examine the remote and immediate causes of the Zaria incident. This inquiry will be open and will enable all allegations and claims to be tested with judicial rigour. The government will act promptly on the conclusions of the inquiry, and forward recommendations
requiring action by the Federal Government to Mr.President. Details of the composition and terms of reference of the judicial commission of inquiry would be made public within the next two weeks.
Commitment to security and constitutional rights In the meantime, Government reiterates that it cannot permit an escalation of lawlessness. Therefore, civil security patrols, supported by the military when necessary, will continue to enable the state to maintain order, reassure
residents and keep the peace. Our government continues to invest heavily in security as a foundation for the successful execution of our economic and social agenda to develop Kaduna State.
Fellow citizens, Kaduna State has witnessed too many upheavals in its recent history. These tragedies have taken too many lives, maimed people, destroyed communities and hurt development. We all should jointly say no to actions that divide people, reject conduct that ignores or violates the legal and constitutional rights of others and oppose practices that contest the prerogatives of state institutions to safeguard and protect every citizen. Everyone has a fundamental right to their faiths and beliefs, but no one has any right to practise their faith in ways that
diminish, distress or inconvenience others. And no one can be allowed to justify unlawful and anti-social behaviour on the grounds of religion. Only conduct that conforms to the Constitution and the laws of the country is valid, and it is the duty of the state to vigorously enforce that. No responsible leader or institution should teach their followers differently. Henceforth, no person or group, under any guise will be allowed to block any road, obstruct public highways, occupy public facilities or inconvenience citizens in Kaduna State. Anybody that needs to march may do so, but they cannot take over public facilities or disrupt social services and commercial activities in Kaduna State, and any march or procession can be undertaken only with the prior knowledge of, and protection of the police to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
The Government wishes to assure every resident of Kaduna State that it is committed to fostering harmony, maintaining law and order and keeping the peace. Our Constitution rightly protects the freedom of worship, as well as the right to liberty, security and the pursuit of happiness. Everyone is entitled to these rights equally. We swore to uphold the Constitution, and our commitment to these values is unwavering. We will similarly protect these rights evenly. We urge all citizens to be vigilant as they go about their normal activities, and to report any suspicions or concerns to the appropriate authorities. Let us all redouble our commitment to sustaining the peace, and to uphold each other in our God-given humanity. While the crisis raged, the Kaduna State Government visited Zaria, and issued appeals for calm and peace. We have taken our time to make this formal broadcast due to the imperative to gather as much information as possible amidst the welter of conflicting claims, the urgency of restoring peace and the need to consult with the federal authorities.

God bless Kaduna State
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
May the souls of the departed find peace
May the Almighty God Restore and Preserve Peace
throughout our state and country, Amen.

[b]PRESS STATEMENT: The army bent on trampling on our right to freedom of speech

Thursday, 24 December 2015 15:25

This is in response to the press statement issued by the Army Spokesperson, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, in which he accused the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and in particular Dr. Abdullahi Danladi of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria of campaign of calumny and miss-information.

Not satisfied with the incessant violation of human rights vividly displayed by the Nigerian Army in its indiscriminate killing of armless civilians, including women and children, Colonel Kukasheka Usman is now further engaging in another round of violating a citizens right to express himself.

Whatever Dr Abdullahi Danladi might have said that is provoking a threat to his life by the Army Spokesperson would not be anything less than what several human right groups especially the Human Rights Watch have stated. This is because the Army had earlier underestimated the responsiveness and pro-activeness of the Islamic Movement in its efforts to cover-up its mess and now that everything is coming out to the bare the Army is jittery with the outcome.

Hence, what is now left for the Army and the government is to threaten the lives or even eliminate those they could blame for letting the world know of their crimes instead of taking corrective measures. We call on all well meaning individuals and groups to rise against this gross violation of human rights and remind the Army that Nigeria is under a democracy and every person has the right to express himself and give account of what he knows especially of the military atrocity on the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

It is the duty of Nigerians to say no to impunity and misuse of office by the Army Spokesperson to threaten lives of individuals especially those who stand against injustice.

Finally, we see this as a signal of the armys intent to silence anybody that dares says anything that does not portray the Army in good light even after the atrocity committed.
