Yes I understand, yet it still won't increase the RCS to more than 1m2 (excl fuel tank). Thus the Su30 still won't detect it at 200kms.
If RCS was all that matters, Gripen would have been the best fighter jet next to F-22. Typhoon has Radar cross section of 0.5 and RCS of Rafael is 1 but does that make Gripen better than typhoon. The size of the the object also matters when RCS is calculated and we all know Gripens are smaller than other fighters of it class.

Gripen is a good fighter but Sweden that made them never claimed they are as good as South African rate them.

3-4 RCS(m2)

The RCS of gripen is lower than Rafael and I think the 0.1 is for Gripen NG.

you want to tell us that the Gripen has the RCS m2 of a F-22 !
F22 has an RCS of approximately 0.0002 m2 dt I say the Gripen had the same RCS or did I say the Gripen had an RCS of 0.1m2?

Never said it was the best, and its not the RCS that makes the Gripen special. The Gripen has one of the most Advanced HMI and EW suits of any fighter be it F22 or Su30.

Yes there are fighters that are faster, have a further range, higher ceiling ect ect, but that's not the point.

The Gripen is by far the best swing role fighter on the market, with the best balance between ground attack and air to air capability. Not only that, its also by far the cheapest to maintain and can land on very short and unprepared runways, thus making it perfect for the African environment.

and then when you but an external fuel tank on a thirst Gripen it lights up like a christmas tree, dont forget recent development in radar technology to track stealth is using X-Band.which most russian radars are using.also if F-117 stealth fighter with a RCS(00.25m2) can be tracked with 1970s radar technology, what about Gripen !

Ok and? What about your Su30?? Remeber the PS-05 Mk 4 can track a 0.1m2 object at 120kms how easily do you think a Gripen will track a Su30 with an RCS of more than X50 of that?

And why would the Gripen necessarily be carrying fuel pods and the Su30 not??

SU-30 has a larger internal fuel capacity, have you seen Sukhoi family of jets with external fuel tanks!now with a SU-30 with BVR 130km R-27ER what happens to a Gripen !

Yes I know it has a further range, that still doesn't answer my question, you said nothing about the parameters of the engagement, why would the Gripen be flying those ranges in the first place which require it to carry external fuel tanks?? Your basically comparing apples and oranges here!!

Gripen is armed with the Meteor missile with the same range what happens to the Su30 ?

Armoured Brigade has for the second time in a row scooped the Kenya Defence Forces rifle championship title held at the newly built shooting gallery in Laikipia Air base. The Armoured brigade won the last rifle championship held in 2007 at Stony Athi.
The tournament which started on 27 October 2014 came to a closure on Friday, 31st October 2014 after five days of vigorous competition. The Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Joseph Kasaon presided over the official closing ceremony of rifle championship.
The Brigade defended the title after they won various matches against 11 competitors who took part in the championship. Kahawa Garrison took the second position after winning Shifta cup followed by Laikipia Air base in third position after banking Uhondari cup and Vijana cup. The Ranger Regiment, as expected scooped the sniper cup while two brigade and Kenya Navy won the Small Machine Gun cup and Service Ladies cup respectively. The Officers Falling Plates cup went to Moi Air Base while moving target cup went to Nairobi Garrison.
During the closing ceremony Lieutenant General Kasaon awarded Senior Sergeant Namunyu as the individual pistol winner and best Light Machine Gun(LMG) shot to Gunner Otieno. The best young soldier was Private Jilo of Laikipia Air Base while Gunner Irungu and Gunner Adhambo of Artillery Brigade scooped the best Light Machine Gun pairs as Senior Sergeant Kipchumba took home the best G3 shot.
In his address to the soldiers, Lieutenant General Kasaon said that this was the first tournament at the shooting gallery since it was opened. Previously, rifle championships were held at Stony Athi.
Lieutenant General Kasaon noted that the rifle tournament was an annual event but halted since 2007 due to operational commitments of the Kenya Defence Forces. He however, said that the trend would resume. “It is the mandate of Kenya Defence Forces to professionally use weapons,” said Lieutenant General Kasaon.
Apart from skill improvement, he said that such activities help to make good bond between soldiers from different formations and should therefore be carried out regularly. “The range standard was good, I therefore urge you to work hard and make it better,” he said, “Make use of the facility any time you feel to do so,” he added.
Present at the ceremony were the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Samuel Thuita and Commander Kenya Navy Major General Ngewa Mukala among other senior military officers.

Our Gripen are not armed with R-Darter missiles, in fact they are not armed with BVR missiles at this point. But that's besides the point, as we were comparing the Gripen in general toe the SU30mk in general, not specifically SAAF Gripen.

Yes I know the the ranges of the Sukhoi and the Gripen, that still doesn't answer my question of why the Gripen is carrying external fuel tanks and the Su30 not. Apples and Oranges my friend.

O god

Must you allways be so bitter?

Whay is up with your obsession with RSA?

We were not the only peacekeepers there and our mission ended a decade ago

To accure any blame to us is a wild stretch

And FYI, we are the only SADAC member who can rapidly deploy forces at this time - that being ACRIC

So yes, lets put (your anti south african) sentiments aside

Nigerian army is still in Liberia for the past 16 years till today, we did not leave. If you wanna do a job, do it well. SANDF failed in Burundi and Central African Republic. No need to post how many tons of heavy weapons SANDF was robbed of by Burundi rebels to arm themselves, SANDF lost high calibre weapons and equipment including MRAPs to Burundi rebels, you failed to recover your arms and ammunition, and then you left all behind to ruin that country.

I was speaking to my cousin about the air lift capacity and whether we were going to look at C-27j Spartan and he told me that the airforce is testing a Russian made medium transport aircraft...And the J-10/Gripen story has been around for a while...my guess is that they're just looking for funding...As for the Navy...Well nobody cares about the Navy in this country undecided

We left because our UN mandate ended

The UN mandate ended because the country was stable and secure

Neither we nor the UN can tell the future, so I fail to see how this has anything to do with us.

Those weapons were not stolen, stop misrepresenting facts.

Yet again, your obsession with South Africa blinds your judgement.

O, here is the link:

Major General Barney Hlatshwayo, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Joint Operations Division’s Joint Operational Headquarters says reports that the South African National Defence Force has lost equipment, weapons and ammunition on missions and that some of this had fallen in the hands of insurgents were wrong.
"Allegations that we lost equipment, weapons and ammunition and that this fell into rebel hands are not true," he told a media briefing Friday

"[Thus] it is not true that our weapons were lost and in the hands of the rebels."

Gripens are good fighters but definitely not as good as SU-30 Russians are crazy when it comes to rockets and jets. I can compare Gripen with J-10 or maybe F-16 but not Rafael, typhoon, su-30 or F-18.

Better HMI, Better HMD, Better EW suit ,lower wingloading, shorter takeoff and landing distance, lower maintenance cost, much lower RCS, can be integrated with any weapon available on the market, much much much better swing role capability.

In terms of overall capability from air to air to ground attack to Recce..... I would say only the Rafael beats it. Typhoon is a great fighter but its not a swing role aircraft, its an airsuperiority fighter, F18 on the otherhand is just a overrated piece of shiit like most US hardware.
