I have over the years lived my life and made all my travels between Abuja,Ebonyi and Abia states not until it was time for me to enter university when i secured admission at UNN..my first week in UNN was so exciting and i have been quite enjoying myself especially with new persons from other parts of south east, then i used to think that since all south easterners are igbos that there is no difference between us as a people but my thoughts were caught short when i started hearing a whole lots of negative comments and un-appealing statements about NSUKKA people esp by the Anambra folks in my room that one of the guys from NSUKKA threatened the guy that he was going to report him to the authorities and that many persons have been punished in school for doing that...these things kept on that many persons from NSUKKA deny their origin especially those from Enugu-ezike axis.
fast forward to when i crossed over to Enugu campus, here u have a more mixture of several persons from south east...truth is that Enugu city remains like the best and most developed eastern capital(not arguable)...here i noticed a more sharp division within the state where an udi person gets offended when u call him/her an Nsukka person and all that with the argument that NSUKKA people are timid and naive...but these i tried analyzing but couldnt decipher.
Not just this u will start but several other things where by Anybody from Ebonyi is regarded automatically as being from Abakaliki and up till now most folks in northern igbo dont still know that Ebonyi was created from Enugu(Abakaliki division) and Abia(Afikpo division).Anybody who's from Abakaliki is regarded as 'nwa-aba' derogatorily. Then i began to ask myself what sought of tribe the igbo is because in all these the hate which they display amongst themselves and abuse is so heavy that u will start even examining your conscience whether actually u folks are of same tribe..
this i bring up for the ignorant folks who think Bi*fra will solve therir problem..
mind you that this will further bring more divisions as Anambra people even see themselves differently from other igbos, thinking they all have the right to insult others and get away with it.And have come to realise that most hate against other tribes and abuse mainly come from Anambra folks(though not all)...am not writing this piece to spite any people but rather to address this ill in our society we need to show tolerance and acceptance to people...and thats why i have come to notice that igbos of Abia, Imo and Ebonyi origin are easier to deal with not because they cant ferment trouble but for the fact that there is nothing good in discord.

What the Op has said about the intra tribal divisions is true but it's not peculiar to just Igbos. What I find strange is the length you guys will go to unjustify the call for a Biafran state by some people . It's becoming embarrassing really. The emergence of Biafra does not mean there will be no fighting or divisions or that Biafra will be better than Singapore, so stop giving all these baseless reasons. If you complain of an impending division in Biafra then what is the basis of Nigeria remaining a country when the divisions are worse than anything that can come out of Biafra.

Bro, discrimination is something that is common not just to the black race even among the white but its more rampant among the blacks and I don't see it ending anytime soon no matter how educated everyone becomes. So, don't make it look that its peculiar to igbos alone..FYI, Enugu ezike is in Igbo Eze and not in Nsukka local govt and am yet to meet anybody from Nsukka that denies his origin..

What irks me about this whole Biafran argument mostly from the opposition is that they can't give any good reason why it should not be. All they do is try to whip up childish sentiments that doesn't even make sense even to a toddler. very soon you will hear someone open a thread to tell us how a lot of Igbos are in inter tribal marriages and as such it will be hard for a Biafran nation to come into fruition. I'm not a pro-Biafran person but i like when i see people give very strong arguments.

E dey everywhere, there are cases of clanship in Igboland, same as everywhere.

I am an Ngwa man from Aba, on a normal day, I will be having oral battle with my bestie from Abiriba, and does it mean we exchange blows? Nope.

Ngwa and Abiriba have clannish issues, but have u seen Ngwa man going to battle against Abiriba, Nope!

But meet us on a normal day, we will jam head and battle an intruder.

That is no case here, the whole "Igbos aren't united" comes from this clannish issues, but at the end of the day, it ends with banters and we all work together to forge ahead.

This whole thing is getting stale, one thinh Igbos don't do is pretending to look like the best. Others pretend, we don't. Easy.

You will know that Igbos are united when you unjustly attack any part of Igbo land be it nsuka, abakaliki or anambra.

Why is every yoruba claiming to be from lagos? This is bcus yorubas in lagos see other yoruba from other state like osogbo, ekiti as inferior and timid.

Mumu Op I am from MiddleBelt and it is d same.
We tribalize even d next village but we DO NOT KILL THEM.
Tribalism is an ancient protective way of keeping tribal units distinct so as not to go into oblivion.

That's y u have some people calling themselves Jews and outsiders Gentiles or Samaritans.

That's y u have some people calling themselves believers n others kaffirs.

Go and read Yoruba history. It is the same. Awori abuses Egun. Ife abuses Osogbo. Its normal and I doubt if it can ever be fully stopped.
Its a cultural thing and the church is doing. well to reduce its glaringness.

When you cross the line which is unacceptable is when you start killing them.

As for that of the schools, it is normal for outsiders to abuse indigenes because most of those outsiders for them to get to the level they r must be highly exposed because of migration but that does not mean they might even have a college of education not to talk of University in their village.

So Op, go n sleep. kiss

is nice having most your views here...but the truth is that most of u havent lived in this part of the world for long or probably dont seem to notice them....my write up is not about bi*fran state or whatever but the some corrective ills in the society which has no basis for justification....or if u think it has basis then answer some of these questions:

1)since some of you said is cultural then i ask ; do we continue to kill twins bc is cultural in some places
2)do we continue to maltreat 'osu' people just bc is cultural in some places?
3)do we continue to exile young gals bc they're ogbanje?

as our cultures change so as our mentality is supposed to change...lets rally together and build a stronger society thats all my point.

I think I may be having a cultural dichotomy or something here.

I don't understand why/how people get upset because they feel hurt their tribe/family/whatever wouldn't be considered suitable marriage partners.

so, date someone else?

or if you want to wing it, good for you.
