jcflex: Guy,do you really understood what you just read??/.. When you read ,don't be in a haste to comment, cos you got to make nonsense of comments,. In summary, there is no where they said Nigerians should be buying tickets in foreign currency (s), and how to repatriate their cash to their respective countries,, cutting down number of aircraft's coming into the country next year and downsizing their workforce and marketers notifying them to be buying fuel in dollars ,.So ur contributions are out of place and order. Correct me if there is any need. Thank you |

jcflex: You should read up on international economy and how currencies work before commenting on complicated topics like this that are obviously above your pay grade. The effect on the airlines are the unintended consequences of the CBN policies. These were not the targets of these policies. For your information, naira is of little or no value to these airlines if they were to take it to their country as you suggested. They need to change them to foreign currencies in other to pump these same funds into their airline operation back at home to continue the operation. Look at it from the angle of an trader, if a particular customer continues to pay you with a currency that have little and decreasing buying power, you have the right to refuse to sell to that customer or reduce your sales to that customer and and the customer can take his or her business elsewhere...this is exactly what the airlines say, they are going to do...i.e. reduce flights to Nigeria and divert then elsewhere for better use. You might say...good! Then the 'customer', which in this case is Nigeria can take his business elsewhere, the problem is, the CBN clip down is on all foreign curriences, which means other countries will not be willing to do business with Nigeria or they will adopt reciprocating policies against Nigeria, in this scenario Nigeria would have set itself against the whole world. Central bank policies should be the last option to boost countries economy...other countries like the USA, China, Germany, etc that does it having huge goodwill and mighty underlying productive economy to back it...Nigeria does not, if a few other countries adopt reciprocating policies against the Naira, the currency will continue in it's free fall, which will lead to hype-inflation and the economy will collapse underneath. 1 Like |

ibb1993: I'm proudly Igbo. Nobody will secede from Nigeria. Suddenly, everyone is shouting Biafra because GEJ lost meanwhile even his native Ijaw people have moved on, but oh no we would not. I don't see Igbo presidency passing us in, at worst, 2023. Igbos need to be given a sense of re-acceptance after the war not to be given a country by Nigeria allowing a president of Igbo extraction. Forget about another country because Nigeria is too mixed to be separated now. I'm not ready for any tribal shock or mass movement of Igbos from other states now...and war should not even be an option because I'm not ready for another 1967. |

slimfit1: Many thanks for your post. Even though I cannot deny that things are not getting better but I want to know the type of suffering 160m Nigerian would suffer if an international airline does not fly into Nigeria. Ever since they have been flying into Nigeria, what considerable income has been acruing to Nigeria? Can the non- availability of such income impact negatively on us? Those are questions which should be asking (not endtime questions) and not all this shout of suffering each time any organisation withdraws it services from Nigeria. |

Isn't that the Height of Macro-economic confusion!! You create an environment where currency restrictions is discouraging existing businesses and you are still expecting new investors that will encourage growth!! Dullard!! 1 Like 1 Share |

grandstar: That I don't call him so, doesn't mean he is not!! Besides, he has called his predecessor far worse!! Both he and the Minister of petroluem, from the way and manner they handle the economy are clearly not too bright!!! Else, we won't have groaning investors whose fund are trapped, neither would we have been delisted from J.P. Morgans Emerging Markets Bonds - weighted at $170bn!! The most exasperating part of this whole mess is that when he - Talking about Mr President - was asked by a guest interviewer on the last presidential media chat on his awkward FOREX policy he concluded with "I don't want to say that I don't believe what you are saying, because I know for you to say.............I will ask the CBN governor......" How bright is that |
Re: International Airlines To Reduce Flights To Nigeria Next Year by grandstar(m): 6:17am On Jan 16, 2016 |
jcflex:1 + 1= 2. That is a maths law. Economics also has laws. The issue is not dealing with naira but repatraition of funds. The government should provide them with the dollars. That is international best practice. If those airlines cut their flights to nigeria, nigeans will be the worse off |
Re: International Airlines To Reduce Flights To Nigeria Next Year by grandstar(m): 6:29am On Jan 16, 2016 |
ehissi:The foriegn exchange restrictions are infuriating! Buhari's understanding of economics borders on the lamentable. Buhari and the CBN governor is a good case of the blind leading the blind.. If this expansionary budget is passed, naira will be between 350 and 400 thos year. Soludo and Sanusi have already said enough |
