One of Nnamdi Kanu's plan is to get the world to talk about Biafra. I think he have achieved that particular objective. Kanu is winning 7 Likes 1 Share |

TonyeBarcanista: I think you should go back to school. Haven't the DSS tendered the video evidence as a proof of treason why didn't it earn kanu a death sentence? Why are they desperate to create an apology where there is none? Your likes will be shamed again in court at the end of the day but as usual you will run away with your tail between your legs, when you are called out. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Eshinwaju: He is wrong on the dasuki arrest. In normal societies, you have to conduct a thorough investigation before you arrest a suspect. Once the matter is in the hands of the courts and bail is granted you cannot arrest him again. Reason is, it is common sense to come to the conclusion that there might be mischief from the state by withholding charges in order to keep the suspect in prison perpetually. Another way the suspect might be re arrested legally, is if he/she committed another crime not linked to the one he was granted bail for. For example, maybe the suspect committed rape during the time of the bailed offence. What the state is doing to Dasuki is wrong and they need to fix it. At present, he can only be arrested if he breaks the terms of his bail or if there is evidence he is about to commit another crime. 4 Likes 3 Shares |

Nigeria won’t release 2 detainees despite court orders LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigeria’s government will not release two prominent detainees despite several court orders for their release, and will not comment on the situation of a third, wounded detainee, President Muhammadu Buhari said Wednesday. Buhari, a former military dictator who calls himself a born-again democrat, did not discuss the propriety of defying court orders when he spoke on national TV. “If you see the atrocities these people committed against this country!” Buhari said in justification. “We can’t allow them to jump bail.” A Federal High Court set no bail conditions and ordered the unconditional release of Biafra separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu on Dec. 17. Kanu was detained Oct. 17 on charges recently escalated to terrorism and financing terrorism. His cause led to a civil war that killed 1 million people in the 1960s. Former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki was detained Nov. 4 after intelligence agents surrounded his home for days to prevent him from leaving the country after a court allowed him bail to seek medical care abroad. Dasuki is accused, among other things, of diverting $2.2 billion meant to buy arms to fight the Boko Haram Islamic uprising. Three courts have ordered his release on bail. “What of the over two million people displaced, most of them orphans whose fathers have been killed?” Buhari asked. “We cannot allow that.” He refused to discuss the situation of Shiite leader Ibraheem Zakzaky, who was detained with four bullet wounds Dec. 14 in military raids that allegedly killed hundreds of his followers. The army said the raids and bulldozing of Zakzaky’s home and Shiite spiritual centers was a response to an alleged Shiite attempt to assassinate Nigeria’s army chief. Human Rights Watch has said the raid was unprovoked. Authorities have refused to allow anyone to see Zakzaky. Buhari said he would not comment until an investigation is complete. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/africa/nigeria-wont-release-2-detainees-despite-court-orders/2015/12/30/641cee9a-af5a-11e5-b281-43c0b56f61fa_story.html?tid=ss_fb 2 Likes 1 Share |

I hate to end my year on Facebook with a sad note, but I really fear for Nigeria. I especially feel bad for Nigerian youths; they are taking the brunt of the hell that is today's Nigeria. I think of #OccupyNigeria (2012) and the recently concluded elections and the energy young Nigerians put into trying to force change and my heart breaks at the result. These are perverse returns on their investments. Nigeria is firmly in the grip of old men and it doesn't look like things will change any time soon. It is not easy to be on the ground in Nigeria and be courageous. That would not be wise. Certainly not in Buhari's increasing Gulag. This dysfunction is in every institution. The arts, especially writing has the bug. There are really two competing camps in indigenous Nigerian literature; the older writers (50 and up) who control the purse strings and access to corridors of power (and funding) and who can cut you off at the knees if you try to be uppity, they control the fortunes of the (b) young folks who essentially have nothing, but write the best, most contemporary and innovative works out there, basically out of nothing. Many of them have nothing but themselves and their peers to work with. The best of them have to hang on to the apron strings of powerful older writers, who even if they are now in the winter of their writing lives, writing nothing of much importance, are still powerful. The NLNG prize is controlled by the elders and young folks can just pray to get something out of it, This year, the NLNG prize was unceremoniously canceled, with no explanation as to what happeend to the money. It costs $1 million annually to run that show. When this happened, there were a few murmurs and then silence. No one wants to get in trouble with anyone, who wan die? The 2015 budget has a line item: $1 million to the "Pan African Writers Association" based in Ghana. No one seems to know much about them and no one is talking. Why would Nigeria spend $1 million on such an organization when our youngsters are funding beautiful events with their spit, why? This is why I get angry and go on and on. Because we are not nice people. We say all the right things and we join our traducers to do all the wrong things. Nobody ever gets held accountable, no one. Those who put that $1 million in that account will hold their peace until someone yells at Ikhide to stop disturbing the peace. We are Nigerian writers and thinkers. We are the problem. I have said my own. I wish all of you a peaceful, prosperous and happy New Year. I shall be right here when you wake up, insha Allah. Good night. 1 Like 1 Share |

Amitex: God bless you real good this 2016. Sometimes I wish Bubu will become draconian and make Nigerians suffer like Zimbabweans under Mugabe or Ugandans under Idi Amin. The way we rationalize things, is scary. Buhari committed treason by calling for anarchy when he lost in 2011. Are we all not witnesses to the bloodletting that happened after he lost? Are we not aware of all the threats from radio chanji? My dear, what you said is the problem we have in naija. Double standards. Hypocrisy. Nepotism and tribalism. What's Zakzaky's crime? Simply being Shiite. No more, no less. Buhari is mean and vindictive. Lazy and unintelligent. The only word he understands is vengeance. Selective justice. Those who were around in his first coming experienced it first hand. How else can one explain the incarceration of Ekwueme and most southern politicians while Shagari was let-off? I hope he doesn't end the same way he ended in 1985. 6 Likes 2 Shares |
