Nice points Lero15. Networking cannot be overemphasize. On the Jobs & Career section, there is always an employee of almost all the white and blue collar sector in Nigeria. You just have to ask constructive questions, monitor comments/advise, make meaningful contributions, send that PM and quit attacking people especially Job posters Just a few benefits: .A little while back, a Nlander working with one of the big 4 sent me a mail requesting for some data on the Capital market, I obliged and he was praised by his colleagues and manager. He felt like a Superstar: His words. Lol. .Funny how I went for an interview in the early part of last year and my interviewer was a Nlander who recognised my moniker as it was the email I used to forward my CV. The interview was very pleasant and nairalandish. and many more.. Lalasticlala, wanna share your experience? 17 Likes 7 Shares |

- know what the Company of your interest does and mingle with people already in that practice. - after any failed attempt do not conclude that you are a douche bag, dust yourself and brush up your skills. - always prepare in anticipation of a potential opportunity. Try to reduce crash preparation to avoid tension. - get on LinkedIn and connect with employees of companies of your interest, register your interest but don't be a pest. A silent vacancy can be available and you will be informed. It really works as I got my present job via this mode. Yes, a total stranger who has never asked for a reward. - even on a good job, don't stop your search if that's not yet your Eureka. at your bus stop, thrive to keep being relevant. - Seek God's direction. This can't be over emphasized as I don't believe a job seeker must apply to every vacancy. I may be wrong though. MMXVI 30 Likes 3 Shares |

Don't ever assume that the interviewer knows the answer to the questions. Answer like you're teaching them, as if they are mumu. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Job hunting: The Ideal Nairalander Way! Very interesting piece OP! Job hunting on NL is a lot easier, free from hassles and you network faster on here. Personally, I've gained from the points highlighted above. Let me see if there's any Lero missed that I've done... brb. ****** modified****** √ Get into the section chatroom from time to time and chat up a joblander you admire! Maybe someone who is currently in a certain job race with you or someone who has gone ahead of you. Glean some wisdom from them! √ Don't be alone! As much as you can, connect with someone online, offline. There are certain convo you cannot have on a thread lest you derail it and face the consequence of your action. Therefore, connect with a few offline! My own style! Try it out and thank me later *winks. Happy new Year Joblanders! 10 Likes 5 Shares |

Nice. Few tips for you guys: A) When you do not hear from an interviewer after a week (Except they mentioned exactly when they will contact you), send a courtesy email or a courtesy call requesting for feedback. B) When you lose out on a job you so much want, cry about it. Yes cry! It makes you stronger and it makes you understand the implication of mistakes, unpreparedness, being lackadaisical about your career pursuit. Cry about it but more importantly, be angered to be better. C) One of the best ways to be shortlisted is to follow all requirements as specified. Follow thoroughly what they have asked you. For Example; Kindly use your surname with the position as subject. That's a very simple instruction. D) Stop forwarding emails from phones and Blackberries without editing. Even the "sent from blackberry wireless" signature can bring bad luck. Edit your CV to the job specifications and apply accordingly. The implication of not following C and D above is that, there are softwares that HR personnels use now that uses key words to discard CVs and applications before it even gets to their inbox. It removes all OND if they have asked for BSc. It removes all the ones that did not follow the email subject accordingly. All they need to do is enter the command on the software. E) Learn how to use power words in your emails, in your application and most especially in your interviews. One of my King-Killer-Sentence is after each meeting (I call it meeting instead of interview) I stand up and with sincerity, I tell my interviewer that I so much like him or her. Sometimes I tell them they can expect good results if I am taken. Sometimes I can give myself targets during the interview and tell them in so so months, there will be so so and so. The list goes on but don't not let me bore you. Let Jarus and Mynd44 come and talk too. I admire their brilliance. By; www.HRtechnique.com 9 Likes |
