I have these five stocks in my portfolio:

Eterna
Skyebank
Transcorp
UCAP
Oando

What is your take on the outlook of these stocks in 2016?

cc: stockbull, moneysage, dexterax, manie, mercilicious.

From the above aforementioned stocks in your investment outlook, It is only two of them that fall within my investment horizon.

Ucap and transcorp their future is good.

As for eterna, I don't know what future holds for it.

Invest wisely...

It is well grin

Ok I see. Funny thing is I'm actually considering selling off my transcorp holding. My reason for this is basically because its financial aren't really impressive. Since transcorp hotel had been independently listed, the company's revenue has tumbled. It generates less than 5billion naira but has an OS of more than 35billion (same OS as Fbnh but Fbnh generates revenue of over 400billion) that's crazy...with that at the back of your mind, you'll want to assume transcotp is not worth more than 50kobo. Aside the fact that they're in electricity generation, what other factor supports your optimistic outlook on the company?

As per Skyebank, do you not think the acquisition of mainstream bank will improve their top line in 2016?

I basically just speculated on Eterna cos I notice the stock rallies every December and starts to drop in January, it's currently giving me a 22% profit.

Oando - I don't even want to talk about that one. I'm currently loosing.

Pls tell me more about your take on UCAP.

Thanks.

I usually scroll down on ur post. But my spirit agrees with u on this. let's not live in false hope. Ur money could do more in the real world to create Jobs and alleviate poverty. But if you still insist on tying it idle on stock market, I guess u should hold till better part of the yr to understand economic direction.

It mustn't be stock all yr round. Understand time and seasons

There is also risk in starting new businesses you do not understand. You need time to build them. There is some virtue in being consistent with what you believe and understand.

Transcorp is worth holding but it depends on your entry price. I maintained In my previous post about transcorp on why the stock value should not be more than 1naira. Many sees it as weird but that's is the truth. The only viable business in their chain of businesses at the moment is their electricity. But I have faith that they will survive and come out stronger. Transcorp will do marvelously well in long term.

Skype bank might be good for jijo people but might be a very bad investment for long term. The echelon of their leadership are not very transparent enough.

Ucap is very good stock at the moment with a very viable fundamental even at the current price. The last time I checked, it has strong balance sheet. Bumper harvest await their shareholders at the end of the year2016.

Disclosure : not a buy recommendation

Yes, but u have to learn that business and engage in business ur spirit has ministered to u. Multiple stream of income is the sure bet. let fear not limit us to NSE as safe heaven when it's own risk of reconstruction, delisting and DAARism with its emotional cohort Oando, is also obtainable.

If God has laid any business in your heart, pursue it, its left for God to perform that which He has promised. Afterall promotion cometh neither from the east nor from the west but from the lord, He also giveth power to make wealth.

Pls fret not be strong , u can only move from one level of glory to another in ur exploit as long as u know your God.

Ok I get you on UCAP but I'm still not convinced on your position on transcorp and Skye bank.

But thanks though. I hope other people will comment to further the discussion.

Transcorp were well positioned to benefit from their investment when there is a turnaround in the economy. Presently, the road is tortuous, their significant stake in transcorp hotel is still intact but the problem is the economy, the hospitality industries will perform very poor because of weak purchasing power and poor state of economy( kindly glance at 3rd quarter result of transcorp) the result is not too good. They have debt with banks and with instability in foreign exchange at the moment they will loose much. They have an agreement with some companies to be supplying fruit concentrate but some of the raw materials are imported, with this instability in foreign exchange, I think their will have some problems in fulfilling that obligation.

Skype bank, they have some dark spots including hiding of some money from nnpc during single treasury account which made then to pay heavy amount runs into billions as penalty.

Did they actually pay? I know they tried to explain their way around it. But I have not seen a report of them actually paying those N4b.

What you posited on transcorp lends credence to my current outlook on the company; I was right to be worried (even if the cause of my worry may be a short term problem) - many thanks.

On Skyebank, well I'm a little more optimistic. However, I will consider my position if I smell any danger outside the fine. The acquisition of mainstream bank was important in my decision to buy into the company. Obviously, I expect mainstream bank to have liabilities, but I'll bet that their assets will outweigh their liabilities. The stock is selling really low and I think they're capable of paying good dividend. The mainstream assets, if properly managed, will only improve the company on the long term.

The effect of the TSA fine on Skye is over and you still have the chance to enter now because Skye Bank always recover at the end of every quarter.........If you can read one of their sponsored article recently you will observe that they are promising their investors with better reward this time vs last year.............But as some people will say do your due diligence..............Prosperous and Wonderful New Year To All..................

stay away from all these bank stocks mentioned. Why not put your money in ccnn that will soon clock #20.00.like play like play ccnn goes to #20.why not put your money in Airservice for quick profit. Are you not seeing dangote cement,Nigeria brweries and okomu presco.

Sir, Skye bank is coming for right issue that is very far above the current market price (1.58 Naira). The bank is not doing bad fundamentally, and remember, market marker for Skye Bank always defile fundamental sometimes. So also, it applies to FCMB! Do your due diligence!

My Personal Opinion: Sometimes one needs to go beyond fundamental to make money in NSE! Watch out for some surprises this year!

It has become
imperative for
investors to develop
and realign strategies
that would deliver
moderate returns in
both mid and long
term period as
companies are under
intense pressure to outplay mounting economic
challenges in 2016. When stocks sustained falling
patterns, and the unimpressive trading fundamentals
remain unchanged in the last three years despite 2.01%
gain recorded by market , it is advisable to avoid such
stocks in this current prolonged bear market. This
simple approach could be taken as one of the key
defensive factors that can be employed or deployed as
filtering mechanism as we preach value-driven trading
approach in 2016..
Nigerian equities market closed the year 2015
bearish, recording 17.36% loss to extend 16.14% loss
recorded in 2014, on the back of active sell-down
that started around May 2015, which had put
investors on cautious mode till year end. The
unprecedented apprehension during election
period, followed by double devaluation of naira had
stoked active sell-down on assets, particularly in
equities market.
In addition, the unfavourable trend in the crude oil
market had worsened the economic fundamentals
of the nation, which had heightened the uncertainty
and risk profile across business lines as
macroeconomic challenges continue to grow could
not be isolated from the unimpressive market
performance.
The economic outlook in 2016 remains bleak, with
strong indication of heavy headwinds, which
further point to possibility of sustained bearish
trend in 2016 till mid-year.
However, on the back of new economic direction
and policies, which is characterised with heavy
spending by government, the slow growth of
Nigerian economy is expected to change pace by
half-year in 2016 as oil price is likely to retrace
from its new low, coupled with low interest rate
environment and tax holidays to specific sectors,
which may boost or renew fundamentals of certain
stocks as highlighted in where to invest in 2016
article.
In the light of this, we remain optimistic towards
return of bulls back to market in the New Year.
Nevertheless, we solicit cautious trading as
investors are advised to remain value driven in
their respective trading.
Analysis had revealed stocks that have been on
steady decline without positive returns in the last
three years on the back of sustained falling
fundamentals, which may persist in year 2016 as we
move into season of increased macroeconomic
headwinds. As a guide, below are list of stocks that
we put on ‘keep-off list’ for now as bear market
may continue to reign due to anticipated effect of
falling fundamentals experienced so far. www.proshareng.com/news/Stock%20PICKS/Stocks-not-to-buy-in-2016-as-fundamentals-remain-in-shambles/29688

I think the key word in that write - up is '‘keep-off list’ for NOW'. Fundamentals can change. Also the list only alluded to the fact that these stocks have made a YTD loss for three years in a roll. I don't think the list or the analyst for that matter factored in the fact that a company like Skyebank for example has acquired assets which could potentially make trading in the company's stocks profitable in 2016; the list was basically stating the obvious (what has happened).

Plus all these brokers can be really funny. I wont be surprised if they end up accumulating some of the stocks listed up there.

I'm not addicted to Skye, i'm just bringing out rationalizations which i'm hoping the group will debunk; you most especially haven't. Because a company is to come out with a right issue don't mean the company is bad. And i'm also trying to rationalise how you came about your assertion that CCNN will get to 20 naira, and why airservice will make us quick profit....And it'll be hard for me to take your predictions considering the fact that you really haven't had much success on them on this forum; Oando didn't close the year above 7 naira or 6 naira as you've profoundly asserted that it would, so i'll rather just follow my instinct on Skyebank as against your pessimism.

@ufotty2001 and newdada, some of those analysts are arm chair, brown envelope and carry and go analysts. Never over rely on them otherwise they will lead you to investment blunder. Most of them have ulterior motives and are there to protect the business of their pay masters.

I was trying to search about their analysis on how fcmb will give investors who will buy fcmb @ about2:35k way back in around October about 40% increase before the year ends, here we are Fcmb has lost close to 40% since that forecast, the price is around 1:75k. I think they have pull down the analysis from nairametrics.com.

We should be very careful...

It is well..

You can't rely on Proshare any more..............Skye bank has a different pattern and does not correlate with movements of other stocks.......Similar news was peddled around last year and their stock traded as low as 1.28 based on the rumor and when their quarterly news came out the stock increased by 40% within a week...............Use your own head also and cross check all available datas concerning any stock you want to buy and don't be intimidated by alarmist theories................Even at that time,Proshare was predicting the worst...............
