YoursGEJ:

If Nigeria is to get on the path of industrialization, it will begin with Ajaokuta steel company. That is why thesw countries are against it. NOI always wanted the World Bank presidency and I'm not surprised she was willing to pay anything to get it just like her boss was ready to bankrupt Nigeria and ignore boko haram so he could win the election

For nearly forty years, Ajaokuta mill was started and never completed. Iwealla was there as Minister only during OBJ and GEJ admins. So why was the mill not completed by the Russians as scheduled before OBJ admin? Have you seen any industry undergoing construction for forty years?
Lol. Perhaps President Bubu shall continue the mistakes of others now - pour money into the bottomless pit of Ajaokuta, nothing is impossible under Bubu.

Many steel companies all over the world are closing down rapidly because of over-supply glut in the market

Ajaokuta's problem was caused by Buhari himself.

Hold him responsible.

Buhari stopped the project when he took over from Shagari.

Every big project in Nigeria must be
'corruption', according Buhari.

The record of our dull, daft & dumb Confused One is that of CANCELLING progressive projects that should make our lives better and our economy stronger.
What a fumbling fumbler!!!

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

Where is the infrastructure to run a steel company? Do you want to run a steel company with hydro power and compete with countries like China and Russia who are using cheap nuclear power? The truth is that while Nigeria was sleeping, other countries concentrated on capacity building. For those who do know, the world is presently swimming in steel. There is no way Nigerian steel produced with hydo-electric power will sell at international market price. Steel production is highly dependent on energy and Nigeria energy is not cheap.

Another point to consider is the facility itself. In this age of automation, the equipment are outdated and would be a burden on final cost of production.

The solution is a total new facility and not with what is on ground. Painful but true.

OsusuMustFlow:
The Secretary General of African Iron and Steel Development, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has accused erstwhile Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in the President GoodLuck Jonathan administration, Dr. Okonjo Iweala of conniving with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to write a phoney audit report on the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

He said the report, which adjudged the company as lacking in prospects was to serve the interest of powerful nations, especially the West, who markets their iron and Steel in Nigeria and other African countries.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja on Tuesday, the Scribe lamented that it was the fourth time international finance organisations would capitalize on corrupt tendencies of Nigeria government officials, who were always ready to compromise and write-off Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company, despite its huge prospects of being Nigeria’s biggest revenue earnings and employer of labour.

“There was a lot of sabotage going on and I have four different report which were initiated by World Bank against Ajaokuta Steel Company”, Sanusi said.

He added: “another group, which has links with World Bank and IMF were invited from Britain by Bureau of Public Enterprises; they came and condemned Ajaokuta, and when we the stakeholders pointed out their mistakes, they left and never came back to Nigeria up till date”.

Dr. Sanusi also recalled that he faulted the power point presentation of another group, which were brought in by the former Minister of Finance, Dr Okonjo Iweala known as “Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facilities”.

“There is another one the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala brought in called Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facilities and after two weeks tour of our steel Facilities, they assembled some officials of the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance and Solid minerals and other stakeholders; before you knew it, they reported that their head team had travelled back to Canada”, he added.

Sanusi who admitted that the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was in touch with the Iron and Steel Association, commended President Buhari administration for his concerted effort at revamping the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel steel.

He advised Buhari to personally pay a visit to the steel industry for what he called a first hand information, noting that it would help his decision rather than waiting to be briefed.

“It is not enough that Mr President should be briefed by anybody. I advise him to pay a visit personally with some of his cabinet members so that when he is taking a decision, it is based on facts rather than waiting to be briefed”, Sanusi maintained.

What it means is that the scandalous N189.1m voted for tyres for various vehicles, including the bulletproof and plain Mercedes Benz cars being used in the Presidency is nothing but the truth.

Buhari has denied withdrawing the budget.

In other words, the general renovation of the Guest House (N387m); complete furnishing of the Guest House (N45m); purchase of computers (N27.5m) and construction and provision of recreational facilities at N764m are all as true as Buhari being an illiterate dictator.

Wait a minute, so other insensitive expenditures on the Presidency’s vehicles that include N39.8m for the purchase of an unspecified number of 200 amps, 100 amps and 60 amps Mercedes Benz batteries for bulletproof vehicles and N30m to be expended on the purchase of tool boxes, car jacks, and diagnostic machines for bulletproof cars, the purchase of C-Caution triangles, fire-extinguishers and cables that will cost N27m are all true and there is NOTHING Nigerians can do about it.

It will be wicked and unpatriotic for any Nigerian be it ruling or the opposition to support this daylight robbery of a budget Buhari sent to the NASS.

FFK got it right really.
Take a chill pill, the budget will be withdrawn and reviewed; even if it's not withdrawn now, those figures will definitely be cut down later. The president isn't playing about his plans to cut down expenses, Mark my word!

Ajaokuta is a massive white elephant project whose is welcome. It is an extremely outmoded and inefficient plant and would only produce at outrageous prices which will put our local industries at a huge competitive disadvantage. Added to this is the monstrous glut of steel from Chinese mills which has brought the price so low that even scrap metals are whining. What the country needs is cheap steel and not a steel plant.

I knew it! I knew that 50Naira puff-puff faced ugly pumpkin-headed woman is never up to no good.

She came from the World Bank with the discredited & outmoded theories of the Bretton Woods institutions that have consistently failed every nation where these theories were applied.

She was not even satisfied with being the finance minister, she added a nebulous title called “Coordinating Minister of The Economy” effectively taking over the duties of the president and especially the constitutional duties of the vice president, as well as putting her hands into the affairs of virtually every federal ministry.

No one would have cared if there was good performance. But the tenure of Okonjo – Iweala has seen the greatest plundering of Nigeria’s assets and resources.

Her period as finance minister will be remembered as the worst in the history of Nigeria.

Ogun Laakaye Oshimale shall bath with the blood of every agent of IMF,World Bank & America covertly working against the interest of Nigeria - including their supporters! (Ashee).

The issue raised in the man's accusation is specifically about 'writing off' the steel plant. Nobody said your hero GEJ is responsible for the non-operational moribund state of the plant. Read and comprehend and quit being unnecessarily paranoid and tribal in every issue.

It is left for us to hear the other side of the story before any real judgement can be passed.

Wait o. Is this not govt crying like opposition?

It will make more sense if APC will finish their work and use their spare time to write discrediting reports about the last administration.

If the steel company was now functioning and during the reopening ceremony they narrate this story we all will clap for them and shame pdp

So now what are they expecting after this story? for nigerians to cry foul and go back to bed on empty stomach??

PDP stayed 16yrs in govt but this APC wont last more than 4yrs cos they know absolutely nothing about governace.

Bottomeline this govt is the most stupid I have seen. PDP doesn't have a form anymore, critisize them from now to 2019 they wont come as pdp. They will form new parties and you cant judge a new party that has never been in govt just as amechi, saraki and atiku are in apc and their sins in pdp has been forgoten so will it be later the remainant of pdp.
At the end of 4yrs this govt will be caught naked without any achievement but finger pointing
