Most powerful, Egypt....24 Rafale jets, about 150 F-16s and about 50 Apaches helicopters, nqvy of many frigates and most advanced submarines in Africa, army of 30,000 APCs, IFVs, tanks, artillery, missiles, 1.5 million soldiers. OVERWHELMING FORCE.

Most advanced is hard to judge because Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Morroco, South Africa have different areas of military edge in technology.

Egypt's Rafale is the most advanced jet figther in Africa.

Egypt's Type 209 is the most advanced submarine in Africa

Egypt's E-3 AWACS is the most advanced and only AWACS aircraft in Africa

Morocco's FREMM frigate is the most advanced warship in Africa

Algeria's T-90 tank is the most advanced in Africa

Algeria's Pantsir SAM is rhe most advanced short range mobile air defence system in Africa

Algeria's S-400 SAM is the most advanced long range air defence system in Africa

Algeria's Yak-130 is the most advanced jet trainer in Africa

Nigeria's ATR-42 is the most advanced MPA+ISR aircraft in Africa

Nigeria's Beechcraft 350 ER is the most advanced ISTAR aircraft in Afica

Nigeria's BTR-4E is the most advanced IFV in Africa

Nigeria's Falcon Eye coastal surveillance system is the most advanced in Africa

Nigeria's CH-3 guided missile drone is the most advanced in Africa.

South Africa has nothing to boast of except tactical datalink and we cannot judge other African countries because we dont know who has tactical datalink and is not talking about it among other nations.

South Africa, I will like the Southies to list for us their equipment names that are currently in service (Not in laboratory or under testing/development stage) and are the most advanced in their class in Africa.....

#EMOTIONS ARE FEELINGS NOT FACTS
.
You reason like a 2 year old.

It's impossible that Eygpt can maintain all their equipment with a budget more or less the same as South Africa and Nigeria.

No proof that Egypts 209s are more advanced than the Heroine class which boast a vast array of South African systems.

South Africa is the only country in Africa, and one of the handful in the World outside NATO, that has a tactical data link.

South Africa has the most advanced C2 system in Africa.

The SANDF is being equiped with the most advanced radio system in the world as we speak.

The Badger IFV is more advanced than the BTR-4

Umkhonto SAM is more advanced than the Pantsir

South Africa boast the most advanced artillery systems in Africa, and one of most advanced in the world.

The Rooivalk mk1f is the most helicopter Gunship in Africa.

South Africa has the most advanced and largest Radar coverage of any country in Africa.

The Rooikat is the most fvcking badass and terrifying AFV on the planet.

South Africa has the most advanced spy Satellite in Africa...or should I say above Africa?

The seeker400 is the most advanced arme drone in Africa.

South Africa has the most advanced ground based surveillance system in Africa.

The Falcon eye is not close to the SA Navy's RRS 6400 and RSR 210 reutech surveillance radars.
Or any other african country for that matter.

How's the Yak130 more advanced than the Hawk 120Lift?

Is data link a weapon? Egyptian Rafales will kill SANDF and kill all yõur datalink when 1.5 million soldiers surround yöur 50,000 SANDF tiny army.
How are they going to get 1.5 million men to SA in the first place....or any other place for that matter?

How do you know Egypt has not developed its own indeginous datalink? Its an ordinary software, or is datalink a nuclear weapon?
No, a data link is actually more difficult to produce, much much much more difficult, it took us 20 something years to produce link ZA, it took us just a few years to build Nuclear weapons, which we had long long before link ZA.

It's a pre-world war II aircraft. The T-34 still gets the job done, but i don't see anybody using it in 2016.

The 50cal is pre war. Still used, Bren gun was still used by the english in to the 80s ans even the 90s with reserve units(still used in india) Canadian rangers are only now looking to replace there pre ww2 rifels. The german MG3 is just a MG42extra extra.

It is not time or technology that makes somthing obsolete. It is when it can no longer full fill its role or it is filled by somthing better. The T34 is obsolete because as a Medium tank it part of a dead class since both medium and heavies became Main battle tank.

It fails as a light tank because it is not Mobile enough to keep up with the lightly armed light tanks like the amphbouses air drop PT76 and its gun is unable match the less mobile but well armerd Light Tanks. It cant be a MBT because it is a easy prey for a armouerd car the size of a well a car.

The sherman was usful far longer because it was able to accept a bigger gun. Mainly the 105mm gun. Thuse the Sherman could kill a T55.

The C47well old is still able to fill full a job. Not the Job as the main transport but yeomonary and auxlury jobs that are still needed.

Other African countries have MORE ADVANCED military equipment than your unimpressive list of SANDF hardware above, see the list I made for Africa's best weapons in each category.

Yes, other INDIVIDUAL nations have better INDIVIDUAL weapons

No one in SSA has such an impressive collection and no one in SSA has it all intergrated into one SYSTEM

NAF has both Beechcraft transport and surveillance versions in service.

Nigerian Beechcraft 350ER has been proved to be ISTAR many times repeatedly on this forum.

I wont waste my time in 2016 repeating old stuff.

No, you only have the transport variant - proven many times on this forum

Falcon Eye was posted here last year with full citations, why should we repeat it? If you want to waste peoples time in 2016, I wont be one of those people.

Badger is a bad obsolete IFV configuration dated 15 years old doctrine.

A standard Badger IFV has only one major weapon, 30 mm cannon with slow rate of fire.

A standard BTR-4 has many weapons mixed, anti-tank missiles + 30 mm cannon + 30 mm Grenade launcher.....modern IFV configuration.

Nigeria has the most advanced IFV in Africa from Cape Town to Cairo
.

Citation still needed that Falcon Eye is the most advanced in Africa

Standard Badger IFV is better armored.

Badger IFV comes in tank hunter, mortar, ICV and command variants - we focus on specialization, not your obsolete soviet doctrines.

Just like the new British, French, German, Polish, Swedish ICV's

Badger IFV 30mm is the most advanced autocannon in the world

.

So its better than the German Puma, American Stryker, British Ajax, Swedish CV90, Korean K21, French VBCI, Swiss Paranah V, Singaporean Terrex?

Weird how the Americans abandoned the concept you call "new" with their new IFV

1. Sudan produces missiles too, so what?

2. South Africa has NEVER produced any tank, you only upgraded your British built Centurion tanks and renamed it Olifant tank.

3. South Africa built NO jet fighter, you only assembled jet aircraft CKD parts imported fully manufactured from Europe
.

1. Nigeria doesnt build missiles!!

2. Tank Technology Demonstrator is fully South African

3. Just like Egypt grin grin

So, you asked:

Do we build tanks? Yes
Do we build Jets? Yes

You lose

So whom does its datalink communicate with? ISTAR includes enemy target acquisition for army formations on the ground, that is the meaning of TA in ISTAR.

So, whom does the Beechraft datalink communicate enemy target positions to, it communicates with itself?

Fool of Soweto.

Yes, it does not have the means to fully impliment its ISTAR capabilities.

But that doesnt matter, AS IT IS NOT AN ISTAR PLATFORM

Non-biased view

The BTR-4E is a better system.

Protection - the BTR-4E with add-on armour can provide ballistics protection for up to 30mm. With Slat armour, it provides protection against RPGs.

Mobility - the BTR-4E provides up to 600hp of energy, great cross-country capabilities and is fully amphibious. 690km range
.

Armament - the BTR-4E is armed with a basic 30mm(Primary) and a secondary 7.62mm, an AGL and 4 Anti-tank missiles.

It's a no brainer, the BTR-4E is a better vehicle.
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 10:33pm On Jan 05, 2016
Be truthful to yourself, the Badger IFV cannot compete with that.

-It only can carry a 30mm or a 12.7mm or anti-tank missiles..... All as separate modules unlike the BTR-4E which provides all of these and more in a single module.

- The Badger doesn't provide any amphibious capabilities.

- The Badger provides protection against IEDs/mines, but an RPG and any caliber abover 7.62mm would defeat it's armour

The BTR-4E simply is a vastly superior system.

Thhe patria has protection against 30mm rounds over the frontal arch and in fact 2 polish Patrias were hit by RPGs in Afghanistan and the armour wasn't penetrated. And that's just the Patria, the Badger will be even more heavily armoured thus its not amphibious.

The Badger also has close to a 1000km range

Stop making up imaginary specification on the Badger, you look like a doos when you do.

Protection - badger with add on armor has the same protection, and has withstood MULTIPLE RPG hits. Unlike your BTR it has protection against IEDs/Mines

Mobility - Badger can be amphibious and has 850km range

Armament - Badger IFV has a superior 30mm (most advanced in the world). Your BRT's dont have ATGM's they have AGL's instead

Also, your BTR does not come as a fire support variant (60mm long range mortar) or dedicated ATGM unit.

You also forgot -

Situational awareness - Badger IFV has hunter-killer capabilities, BTR does not. Badger has MATIS thermal imagers, does the BTR?

Yes, it is a no brainer... Badger takes the day!!

1. The AMCIT turret is designed so that it CAN carry ATGM's and a 30mm cannon....
54 missile turrets equipped with the GI30 30 mm gun and Denel Dynamics Ingwe anti-tank missile system
http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=35423:bae-land-systems-to-supply-sights-for-badger-ifv&catid=50:Land&Itemid=105

But the SANDF did not select that option as it does not suit our doctrine - a sentiment echoed by all other Western Nations in their modern wheeled IFV's

2. Because we choose ARMOR over the ability to float. The Badger is more heavily armored than your BTR, which makes it better.

3. Where are you getting this info from? Badger has 30mm protection on the frontal arc as STANDARD.

Your BRT is:

- Not as well armored
- Has inferior situational awareness
- Has an inferior gun
- Has no Hunter-Killer capabilities
- Has no protection against COIN and 4G threats
- Is not data-link compliant
- Has no fire-support variant
- Has no APC variant
- Has no ambulance variant
- Has no Tank-Hunter Variant
- Has no Command Variant
