uboma: The payment started since yaradua's regime. It is a form of affirmative action. Its not because govt has so much funds to throw away, but the oil which govt used to develop other parts of the country devasted much of the niger delta making it unliveable. Its not luxury payment and it has an end date |

omonnakoda: The region will be desolate or the whole of Nigeria. 35 dollar oil and the WHOLE of Nigeria, FG inclusive cannot pay salaries. Better wake up. The law of gravity says he who is further from the ground suffers most. The guys in the creeks who know nothing but poverty are going to enjoy post oil the most. The rest of Nigeria living on big oil will suffer the most. |

Demdem: I agree. We should shut down the entire oil industry and all go home. It ain't worth it. |

In a country where NYSC members are paid an allawe of #19800, lazy NE people are paid #65,000 and they still go ahead to use the fg's money to start a oil thieving business. |

buskie13: That's Nigeria, our country is founded on settlements, rent-seeking and conscience trading. If you were made President what will you do. |

65,000 naira to 30,000 ex-militants amounts to 1,950,000,000 naira. That is 1.95 billion naira. So the government actually believes she has no way of tackling of militants but resort to being taken as hostage? I still don't understand this. If these guys are that powerful, maybe we should pay them to help us decimate boko haram & bring back our girls once & for all. Is this really investigative journalism |

allthingsgood: Yes I am aware that the Amnesty programme is a continuation from Yaradua's govt but don't forget that PMB had earlier said that the Amnesty programme may be discontinued by December 2015. The Amnesty programme is a welcome development from Yaradua and I hope that PMB sustains it. |
Re: FG Commences Direct Payment Of N65,000 To Ex-militants by ladenz(m): 9:08pm On Jan 07, 2016 |
buskie13: It's painful. But the truth is that at the time they started the Amnesty program, the ND militants were crippling our oil dependent economy. Even the price of oil in the international market was affected each time the militants attacked. It was cheaper to pay them that amount of money than to keep losing oil money. We are not sure how they will react if they stop the Amnesty program but I think it should be phased out gradually. |

Reference:Maybe you should read and comprehend before responding What did I write and you are talking of salaries what is the connection. In 30 years time when the oil is finished and all the creeks polluted what will the people in the Delta live on their lands devastated and polluted and the oil gone. That is what I was talking about and you are talking about salary Anyway with regard to your offering Let me put oil in perspective for you @ $100 X2 million barrels a day X 365 days a year = $73 billion and Nigeria is a $500 billion economy. Oil is no longer $100 so you can do the math = 35% of $73 billion Bear in mind that that is the contribution of oil to economy and not government receipts from oil which is much less Nigeria can never be desolate because of oil that is a mistake. At any rate the proven oil reserves in Nigeria will last 36 years that is a fact. Now Nigeria fought a war without oil and came out without debt so all that extra talk is shortsighted. How many people in Nigeria work for government? In the short term there will be pain but we will adjust go and look at historical oil prices from Abacha through to OBJ. |

ladenz:it should be phased out completely ..of wat use is this amnesty programme when de price of oil has fallen so low..where is the money coming from? and how does this money paid to these militants stops dem from carrying out vandalism and kidnapping.. cos as it is right now...oil theft is still rampant in de oil area...how will this govt curb all these happenings... it is just a sad and a confused situation... |
