sirRiddy: I just discovered Kstate deadline is tomorrow 8th January (for MS electrical engineering). @SirRiddy, 1. Is it compulsory to upload the financial affidavit during application? 2. Must all the 3 recommenders upload their LORs before an application is termed complete? 3. How did you come about the 12 GTAs information? Please do justice to the above questions. Thanks |

@ sirriddy, when WES converted your gpa of 3.6/5 to a scale of 4.0, what was the outcome? |
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Nobody: 8:22pm On Jan 07, 2016 |
Lobito007 my evaluation amounted to 3.28/4. Please note that this is not a straightforward thing. Another person with 3.6 might get less than or more than what I had. If you have high grades in your penultimate and final year courses, you would get a higher GPA conversion than another guy whose high grades were in his first two years. In evaluation, more weight is given to the Upper Level Courses (final two years). Kapitain For question 1, It is necessary for K-State. They might adjudicate your packet but would not give you a decision till your Statement of Account is provided. This is an excerpt from a mail sent to me by my graduate program director “Thanks for your prompt response to my request for an updated transcript for your application to Kansas State University. It looks like we're also missing the Affidavit of Financial Support. Based on a cursory review of your application, I believe that we will be able to offer you some form of an assistantship, but the university still requires you to complete the Affidavit of Financial Support document.” Yes to question 2. For the third question, I was told before I applied because I asked. I knew the funding situations of most schools I applied to before considering them. Sometimes, one department in a school might have so much funding and another may not have shishi. Layez, thanks for the kind words. I did not receive any email though. Cephas0009 thank you very much. I hope luck smiles on you and you get rewarded for your hard work too. Please share your experience when that times comes. Fizzile, femi321 has a point there. Even though school application for many schools are open till April and even May or June sometimes for Fall, most good schools in the US close their application in the first quarter. Infact, Arizona State University has December 1 as deadline for the following fall. Toluak has a pretty enviable GPA and can compete for admission into many top programs in the US. I would advise him to study hard for the GRE and score at least 320, it is doable. The GRE is tricky, but from observation, it is not an IQ test or a test of intelligence. If you have seen guys’ score leap due to the intense prep, you would understand what I am talking about. I remember when bigFrancis21 told me not to rush as US is not running away, now I know he is right. Most who rush in find it tougher, as if it is not tough enough. So, my opinion is that Toluak takes his time and prepare well, so he can get into a school that would be give him a competitive advantage in the job market. 6 Likes |

MY GRE BITTER-SWEET EXPERIENCES INTRODUCTION After been provisionally accepted at KFUPM, Saudi Arabia I was told to send GRE and TOEFL scores in order to get full approval. That was December 24, 2014. I went to Lagos from Badagry to get preparation books. After moving from Tejuosho Yaba to Marina to Tinubu I could only get Barron's book for GRE and TOEFL on that day being a boxing day. Many shops are under locks and keys. The next day, I started preparation. I prepared for about 7 weeks before I book an appointment for GRE on 17th April 2015 so that I can meet up with the deadline being 30th April 2015. Meanwhile, I prepared solely from Barron's for quant and verbal, and I used Kaplan wrongly for AWA. But it would later backfire. THE BITTER EXPERIENCES On the 17th April 2015, I got to JKK my center on time from Badagry. The place was not obscure to me again for I was there 6th March for the TOEFL exam. I did the documentation and I went to a work station around past 10. I started the exam with an issue topic I just read from Kaplan. I typed much. I did the best I could with the argument essay. Verbal was the beginning and the end of my test. I did two Quants . Then, I knew that Barron book is not enough because I found many questions difficult. The exam ended and I checked scores. Oh my God! I had 155 quants and 148 verbal. I was 1 point less than the cut off for Quantitative at KFUPM but my verbal is more than okay. I used faith. I just sent the score like that. But no soothsayer would told me that it would not be reported and I would believe him. 1 Like |

I made some queries about my scores and many people told me that my score could still be accepted. I was joyous to know that. More than 15 days after my GRE result was still not available online. Later, I sent queries to ETS and I was told to contact the office of Testing integrity via phone. I called them at Testing integrity office and the ETS agent told me that my result was withheld because my essay response was similar to someone's else. He told me to send a defence to TSReturns@ets.org stating why my score should be released. I was disturbed, frustrated and perplexed for many days. I did not meet up with the deadline. I was still fighting for my withheld score till I forgot about it around June. I was serving at ASCON then. I was thinking that a Corper just wasted $195. It was a serious emotional torture being my only sponsor. Later, I let it go and I started developing my French skills until October 2015. I couldn't think of a retest for I had no money to do that. THE SWEET EXPERIENCE On the 16th October 2015, I saw a mail in my inbox. It had been there for six days. An agent from testing security office asked if I was still interested in having a retest because he could provide me with voucher for a free GRE test. I accepted his offer and he sent me an encrypted PDF file which I used my registration number to open. Immediately, I got that free GRE test, my first test was cancelled. The letter said I must use the voucher within one year. So, I went to JKK for an official DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I thought. I book another appointment for 28/12/15. I studied from different sources for quant. My prep. was quant. focussed. I used all the manhattan strategies for quant. and I studied statistics, combinatorics and probability from there. It was a nice experience to watch some magoosh videos too. Practised from Korea hack by Dr Raj. I was not serious with both verbal and AWA but I did some works on them too On the test day, I left my Badagry residence around 6:15 am and arrived at JKK exactly 8:54 am. Around 9:30, the test administrator attended to us. I was assign a seat 8B. I did my AWA. Though, my issue topic was difficult for me I was able to put 2 nice points down. Argument was moderate. I started with Quant. it was very simple I am sure of missing just 2 or 3. The verbal is tough. Though, I understand most vocabularies there but the RC us too dense. I went for the break and I was getting tired. The next was quant. The difficulty level was hard and I made careless errors because of pacing. Then, followed by VR. The comprehension passage were just short passages. I just did my best. Experimental section was Quant. It has the same difficulty level as the first but very thickish. Thank God for different strategies I was armed with. At the end, I saw my scores. Quantitative - 158, Verbal - 147. I was happy. I crossed the barrier (156 cut off) this period. I left JKK with joy in my heart. After 10 days, AWA - 3.0. I thank God for the happy ending. 'Bitter-sweet memories. That is all what I am taking with me'- Dolly Patron 6 Likes |

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Nobody: 5:48pm On Jan 10, 2016 |
CarterIV:Those standardized tests scores can wait if you get a competitive CGPA, a good SOP and glowing recommendation letters. You can be provisionally admitted but submission of both TOEFL and GRE scores are necessary to get a full approval. Now, without them a contract visa might be delayed due to many people on ground. Yes, TOEFL is compulsory. You can only get a waiver if English is your mother tongue or you had your BSc degree from there |
