If you are an aviation enthusiast or regular traveller, you would think that the picture below is photoshopped because the Boeing 747 usually has four engines.

How however this particular one has five engines because Qantas airline had to send a spare 747 engine to Johannesburg from Syndey to fix on one of their 747's in Johannesburg.

It's truly an amazing feat.

Not sure that won't affect the balance and characteristics of the plane, however, the pilot's experience will to be put to test.

That's obviously a photoshop, the spare engine could have been flown in a cargo plane instead of that risky adventure of five engines.

I'm a pilot and I can categorically tell you it's real.

Wow in that case, that's great but I wouldn't want to be in that plane grin grin

grin the effect was that the flight was slower and had to stop for refueling which is a bit unusual for a 747

Oh, I see....So it didn't threaten the safety of the aircraft?

Nope

The aircraft was designed to actually transport an extra engine if the need arises.

If this is true then the pilot must be on top of his game

The major problem would taking off and landing

"This land is not for sale"

Not really, several modifications were made e.g less fuel necessitating a stop over for refuelling, less baggage and slower flight speed.

hope the balance wasn't tilted during flight

Hmmmm a lot of technicalities involved, only a pilot with thousands of hours of flight would be given such plane to fly
Cos one of those engines cost about $25m

please, is it advisable for someone to start flight training at age 28 and thereafter gain employment with any airline in Nigeria? Thanks.

Yes it possible.
Usually two years for the training

So long as d CG doesn't exceed d fore and aft limits and d extra engine doesn't affect d MTOW, d aircraft should be able to take off and land. However, d extra engine implies more thrust and higher burnt off fuel

Skipper very few can understand this oh.

Let me break it down

The Center of Gravity (CG) has to be balanced in layman terms, and the extra engine doesn't affect the Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) the aircraft should be able to land and take off.

However the extra engine requires that the aircraft would need more power to fly and as a result burn more fuel.

No sir, the loading of luggage and some other calculations would ensure its balanced.

Dear Boeing777pilot,
I'm a final year student of Telecomms engineering, I'm 22 years old and I'm from I'mo state. I've always had the aviation big as far back as I can remember but for lack of funds, I've not been able to get the training.
my family can only raise about 4million for my training which is not likely enough. please could you suggest ways, airlines, or people that could help me with a scholarship or connections for cheaper training. thanks, keep the good work going
