greenhulk: Wrong. If your internet is fast enough, you can even stream 4K in Nigeria. I used to work for a private firm that had 50Mb/s unlimited internet. They had a direct connection to main one cable. I have friends who still work there and stream 4K videos regularly. However since they dont have 4K devices, they stick with 1080p. |

Elxandre: Wrong. I live in the US with unlimited internet and I can confidently tell you his analysis is correct. On 720p, a one hour video will cost you at least 2.6GB. HD (1080p upwards) which is twice the size of 720p, consumes even more data. Meaning a 2hr full HD movie would consume more than 8Gb of data. If you doubt me, I will post screenshots to confirm his statement. When the Netflix in Nigeria announcment was made, my initial reaction was "which data are you gonna watch movies with"? Until fast affordable internet is made, massive full scale streaming video in Nigeria is but a pipe dream. P.s: in most advanced countries, internet is delivered to most homes via copper cables, fibre optics and telephone lines. Meaning a hard line directly connected to the ISP's. I know you have heard wifi is everywhere in the us. Thing is, the Wifi only serves as a means of connecting users to these hard lines. So the bulk of most internet acces actually go through these hard lines. GSM and wimax networks are seriously discouraged and rarely used for internet access here. The reverse is the case in Nigeria. Almost all our internet is wireless. For internet access, wireless is inefficient and expensive. If Nitel had built phone lines to every home in Nigeria we would have fast affordable internet right now. 10 Likes 1 Share |

DullardBuhari:Just check on YouTube. There are free tutorials that show you how to install Kodi on your android phone, pc or stick. If u can't do it yourself you can enlist a friend who's more tech savvy. I Use the Kodi app on my amazon fire stick and its better value than Netflix even if Netflix were 99 cents a month. As someone said already, u have access to everything watchable on the planet at almost zero cost to u (virtually everally US and european major cable channel in the world -- eg. u wont see supersports and mnet, but ud c fox movies and sky sports/bein/ESPN etc, u get the gist.. Its movie catalogue puts hulu, netflix and all other streaming companies combined to shame..and yup Kodi has the best po.rn.). |

VickyRotex: Flawed analysis. Technically to watch a movie of size say, 700 MB might require you to part with roughly another 100 MB. For your information, streaming contains a lot of error bits/bytes, as well as control packets. Streaming is the same as downloading except that your application plays your data almost instantaneously. Error is almost not permissible here. .. 3 Likes |

[quote author=ipledge10 post=41860524]This a way for some company to make money, but no Rich men in Africa dont think...All they are after is illegal money...so many people can make somey now if they start providing unlimited data at a cheaper rate let us...unlimited wifi 200Mb/s at #20,000 monthly 300Mb/s at #25000 monthly and so on...mehn see money. Unlimited WiFi has no capacity but is measured by speed: 1mb = 1000kbs. In order to stream content in 1080p from Netflix conveniently, you'd require a bandwidth of 10Mb/s and above. 4K content require 25Mb/s and higher. |

bigtt76: pahh..forget netflix...netflix is not doing well in america, thats why the came to nigeria to steahl a bit money from gullible western-style orienteted nigerians...they know exactly that nigeria is in no way capable of streaming because broadband was never built.... when it was not obasanjo, you wouldnt even have this 3gp,4gp,and whatever... at the end,you will only end up paying 5 to 7times more for the same product than in america... very lucrative for netflix, but for you,its a financial-disaster.... stop trying to have western-things in nigeria...you will easyly end up paying 10times more...and dont forget,,you can not pay in nairas... you loose, and nigeria loose too..... btw....1 film with average quality need 700mb....lowest quality will still need around 700mb/film....nigeria need to first build its fiber-line out,,,no chance to enjoy neflix in nigeria like in america.... 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Chai jisos naija sha. See sb ranting about 60GB Some people virtually live on YouTube and Netflix no shaking. The issue is lack of broadband backbone. Why should you keep a movie permanently on disk when you can always stream it from putlocker? Dstv is just useless, it's easier for them to just be ISP and save folks from this Internet wahala. |

olukenzo: we could bypass this problem by streaming to each other in the area...when someone has a film,he can stream the film to 100 or more people that are near to him,by turning his wlan to a hotspot...this strategie needs more cooperation between people in a area... this data-bandits would be cut off,and forced to upgrade the broadband in nigeria.... 1 Like |
