i haven't used it b4.

i found them on google. check the site out; i'm pretty sure they offer good internet service. Although, they did not review the speed on their site.

this is their website: http://wifi.com.ng/ click on ''contact us'' and you will see their contact details.

Okay thanks , I was looking for a customer review actually , most people tend to leave 'Good reviews' about their services if you contact them , that was why I was looking for someone who has used them before , but I'll have contacted them already though ... And thanks for the info

When will Nigeria actually get to that point? The NCC doesn't care apparently

The mtn hynet LTE service 5mbps unlimited plan of 35000 per month is the best solution for now.

Lol 7HD movies and you expect it to be 3GB? The higher the video quality the more data consumed. Change your Netflix player settings to low quality. It's still better.

Why go for low quality when the money Netflix charge is high quality?? undecided

Signed for Netflix 3 days ago. Myself and Wifey watched 7 HD Movies, 1 Documentary, and 3 Episodes of a Series. Just within 3 days it has exhausted 60GB of Data from Swift that costs 25k. So I have decided to get rid of Netflix for now.

Nigeria is not Ripe for Netflix until our ISPs begin to Offer Fast and Unlimited Internet Subscription. DSTV appears to be the only Reasonably Priced option for now.

I had done a mental calculation of this and did not bother to attempt it

I still insist that the ISPs in Nigeria move with local trend and you can't blame them for it. But soon enough, everyone is going to come up with a Netflix bundle eventually. All it takes is for one person to start it. Accept it or not, this is the beginning of the end of DSTVs stranglehold on Nigerians. The availability of Netflix bundle means more or almost unlimited internet, then creative people now see that like me, they do not need DSTV full bouquet to watch football matches. They find out they can stream it online at a partially good quality etc.

Tell me, what is wort watching on DSTV aside from these football competitions? DSTV is just super dry and yet they charge 16,500 premium PVR.

We should not expect that because Netflix is now streaming in Nigeria, everything will fall in place in 48 hours. It'll take some time for these ISPs to adjust. Slowly but surely. I remember about 16 years ago, I was using telephone line to connect to the internet and cyber cafes were using VSAT (DOPC) at the time and i needed about 512/256 KBps bandwidth with contention ratio of about 1:3. If i'm not mistaken, i got a quote of about 500k per month. Fast forward till today, I pay the same 500k for about 40Mpbs.

Slowly but surely!

Wrong. I live in the US with unlimited internet and I can confidently tell you his analysis is correct. On 720p, a one hour video will cost you at least 2.6GB. HD (1080p upwards) which is twice the size of 720p, consumes even more data. Meaning a 2hr full HD movie would consume more than 8Gb of data.

If you doubt me, I will post screenshots to confirm his statement.

When the Netflix in Nigeria announcment was made, my initial reaction was "which data are you gonna watch movies with"?

Until fast affordable internet is made, massive full scale streaming video in Nigeria is but a pipe dream.

P.s: in most advanced countries, internet is delivered to most homes via copper cables, fibre optics and telephone lines. Meaning a hard line directly connected to the ISP's. I know you have heard wifi is everywhere in the us. Thing is, the Wifi only serves as a means of connecting users to these hard lines. So the bulk of most internet acces actually go through these hard lines. GSM and wimax networks are seriously discouraged and rarely used for internet access here. The reverse is the case in Nigeria. Almost all our internet is wireless. For internet access, wireless is inefficient and expensive. If Nitel had built phone lines to every home in Nigeria we would have fast affordable internet right now.

Ntel is coming and they better come fast with unlimited and cheap internet

To save your data. Netflix was made not for the African market where data cost an arm and leg unlike the American Or European markets where speed is what matters. There if you overshoot your monthly data cap, you are not disconnected but rather get your speed throttled from 100mb/s to like 50mb/s lol Naija we de struggle for 3mb/s and dat is after dem tif your data and credit.

Nice and enlightening analysis.

But I think I've heard of T-MOBILE in the U.S. having unlimited plans at around $100 per month.
Can't we have something that good?

Just be a bit more patient my good friend. It is now inevitable.

Very soon data would be like pure water.

I remember back in the day 07/08 when Zoom (Visafone's predecessor) sold 3GB for 10K.
the new guys that bought Nitel are planning to pioneer mass broadband usage in nigeria...its the way forward...even in developed countries, they still depend on wired connection to reduce traffic...but naija we no gree...

Kpom... I said it, streaming ain't cheap in Nigeria. Most developed countries can afford to stream media 24/7 because data is cheap. I will use UK as an example, An unlimited home wifi running on a basic adsl line ( i.e odinary telephone line) streaming at 3mbps to 7mbps usually cost around 8k equivalent a month, which is more than enough for 1080p videos.. Then those who download and want faster speed can get fibre cables connected for less than 14k unlimited a month.. With close to 40mbps speed. We can only dream of such at the moment in Nigeria, cost and availability is the main issue..
No Sir.

At 9.5+ MB/s download speed, my connection translates to about 80mb/s. Here in Nigeria.

You should know that the data consumption on Netflix can be adjusted. Go to your account under my profile click on playback settings and adjust accordingly.

Re: Netflix Is A Waste Of Money? by Nobody: 8:33am On Jan 11, 2016
unless a telecoms company is prepared to offer unlimited broadband for a reasonable price i don't think the average Nigerian can afford to subscribe to and get the best out of Netflix for now.

Internet connections are stupidly expensive in Nigeria and something needs to be done about it.

It costs on average £10 a month for unlimited broadband in the UK plus phone line rental costs.
