Ive seen a 2006 civic with 100000km on it and has been registered for 2 years, it looks like a good deal apart from small interior touches and no sunroof
Was wondering if i could get some advice from the gurus here. is there any particular thing i should be looking out for?

But if you fit, come and try my car on the road...I'll leave you in my dust wondering what happened! And despite it being that high on mileage and a V6, I average 17mpg! I've seen 'younger cars that only dream of that consumption level!

My Honda civic odometer is reading 350,000km
I bought it when it had 250,000km.
i have never spent 10k on it (if not for tyres).
even at this time it can give me over 550km per 45litres of fuel.

Though keeping to regular and schedule maintenance is very important to increase the life span of the engine ,so also mileage of an engine cannot be disregarded especially when u are buying tokunbo car .As mileage is the indication of the years of service of the car, the entire accessories and suspension system.
In Engineering ,every device in a system have life span and after the lifespan has been exceeded the failure rate of such system will be relatively higher.
so definitely u cant compare a the failure rate of a low mileage car to the higher ones if all other things (maintenance ) remain constant.
Though this is not applicable to naija used car due ignorance of most car users in giving their car proper maintenance standard. e.g wrong oil ,kazeems etc
So 100k mileage is still ok for 10 years tokunbo car but for naija used car disregard anything like mileage and ask the owner to give u the true maintenance history

There is nothing like much milage.
In America, 1945 vehicles are very costly $50,000
It still have the original millage and the original engine.

You will still see people driving from New York to Alabama which is a 2 days drive and the car will still make it to Alabama without a fault.

in my opinion,mileage depends on the strength,wear and tear of an engine.
I had used a Honda car with a mileage of above 100,000km and one of slightly above 200km,they were manageably ok,but with a few issues here and there.
I also use a Mercedes which is very very fantastic,but the mileage is above 250,000km..no smoke,no vibrations very fantastic.Just start it and drive off.

Divenlove and Denn has said it all. Odometer doesn't matter wen it comes to used car. The maintenance history is what u should look out for.
I bought my 2006 model Volvo XC90 with 229,000 KM, but everyone thought it was tear rubber wen it was been offloaded from d container, the sound, movement, horsepower, Is as good as new.

So d mileage is ok, just consider d maintenance history n go for a test drive.get a good mechanic to help u out since it's ur first car. Make sure that you get d value for ur money.Goodluck!

it's really not about mileage but how well the car was maintained. I have seen a lot of high mileage cars with better maintenance history than some low mileage ones.

Some vehicles were made better than others. You can't compare the durability of a Toyota to that of a Kia. A Toyota at 300,000 miles will more than likely outperform a Kia at 200,000 miles. Then you have to factor in maintenance history, has the transmission been replaced which means the odometer reading is not accurate and other important factors.

Most of what they v said re correct.
Most important thing is the maintenance, which is poor in this part of the world.
If its used in nija, its better if u know the user, then u will be able to predict, the cars condition.
Is he a ruffian or neat, composed gentleman, such will service the car as at when, using correct parts, irregardless of the cost.
100km ain't bad. Got mine around 120km n my baby is still firing.

The conventional standard usage of a car is 33,000km or 20,600 miles per year(depending on what your car reads) when 100% utilized. To find out if the car has not been over used, simply consider the number of its age from year of production, using that guideline. That is, a car of 2010 model, if maximally utilized, must be reading about 198,000km or 123,600miles by now on a rough calculation. Calculate it's usage using this system.

Is millage important , yes.
is 100,000km too much ? No.
I personally wont buy a car that has over 150,000 km on it from experience,
I have tried 212,000 with Honda EOD, and the experience was terrible. The rings were weak, how do u even know if it was been well maintained?
Guy man will change oil just before posting the ad.

You should concentrate on the following,

1: Make sure the engine has never been opened, you will know when you look around where the upper part meets the lower part, if there any whitish wax, know it is the gum used to seal it back, run!

2: Make sure the gear is good, now you will need to test drive the car when its cold, some bad gear stabilize when the engine is already hot.

3: Power steering, this is fixable but costs around 25-30k. (for that civic)

4: Lastly AC, You can never know if the AC is really good. An AC that is leaking will still work for like 2 weeks before gassing out.
here you just have to throw dice.

Those 1950 cars someone is posting might even have 5000 miles on it.

I use the real 5w30(synthetic) unlike most users who buy mobil N3,000 and they service their engine only whereas there are others like gear servicing(which most never do), differential servicing.
