ALT2: If you're searching for scholarships, Google should be ur best friend. But u can check Chevening, Common wealth, Nottingham university. There're many of them on the Internet. Even NLNG and Federal scholarship board gives scholarships to uk. And there are many more. European and UK schools are usually generous with funss. Once again, it's not really advisable going to the usa with the hope of hustling ur way through. |

Greetings and a happy new year to everyone. Came across the thread some hours ago. It has been informative. Kindly help me on this. I intend going for my masters in the united states. Graduate of petroleum engineering with a 2/2. Here is my questions What are my chances of getting a scholarship to study a related course in my field? With a good grade in either TOEFEL or GRE exams. Do I stand a chance of getting it? Thanks as i anticipate your swift response. |

New Forex information: In view of the above, the Management of the Central Bank of Nigeria has reached the following decision, which take immediate effect: a) The Bank would henceforth discontinue its sales of foreign exchange to BDCs. Operators in this segment of the market would now need to source their foreign exchange from autonomous source. They must however note that the CBN would deploy more resources to monitoring these sources to ensure that no operator is in violation of our anti-money laundering laws; b) The Bank would now permit commercial banks in the country begin accepting cash deposits of foreign exchange from their customers. 12. In closing, let me note very importantly that these measures are not intended to be punitive on anyone or any group. Rather it is meant to ensure that the CBN is better able to carry out its mandate in an effective and efficient manner, which guarantees preservation of our scarce commonwealth, and that our hard-earned financial system stability remain intact to the benefit of all Nigerians. http://www.proshareng.com/news/Forex/Effective-immediately-CBVN-stops-sales-of-Fx-to-BDCs-Allows-Nigerians-lodge-Forex/29753 |

vekanem: Good morning, I think you should start by researching the decent Petroleum Engineering graduate programmes in the US. There aren't too many of them although they're damn competitive. Most Petroleum programmes like other programmes don't specify an actual GRE score on their website however it's generally believed that a quantitative score of 160+ gives you an edge. (Colorado School of Mines has a required Quantitative score of 155 while UT Austin has an average Quantitative score of 166 and Verbal Score of 155 ) The other programs I've researched have no particular score for TOEFL. Colorado is the only PE program that waives TOEFL for Nigerians. However, the TOEFL iBT requirement for most schools is around 79+ or thereabout. TOEFL shouldn't worry you so much though you'll need to do well since you said you'll need funding (GA,RA etc.) The focus now should be your GRE. I can't say anything about grades because I have no idea about how they evaluate that. Your statement of purpose is also very important. That's the summary of the advice I got from a senior colleague. I applied to a number of PE programs for 2016 fall. UT Austin (Ambitious) Texas A&M (Ambitious) Colorado School of Mines (Ambitious) Focus on these schools; University of Oklahoma (Moderate) Texas Tech University (Moderate) Louisiana State University (Moderate) University of Houston (Moderate; because the PE department is just four years "old" However, Houston is a very good school. University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Safe) Those were the schools I looked-into. There are still a number of other ones.....PennState , Stanford 3 Likes 1 Share |

olawoleolayinka: All the same. But F1 has right for reinstatement of student status while B1B2 can't. Don't fall out as a student, the process of reinstatement is tedious. If you have no resources, you might not be able to get it done until you're a resident. |
