africaken: Henry240 is right! Allegations, especially those made by ignorant wannabe Christianne Amanpour/Wolo Blitzer activist types in the local media are normally bs. The JAF F5s were the only option of the KAF at the time. It was a licenced facility competent for what was needed. The F5s still have a few hours left in their frames. What was doing the air support in S Somalia? Remember the socalled Journalists4Justice in November? They repeated corruption claims about the KDF smuggling sugar and charcoal which began incidentally BEFORE they'd even reached Kismayo. See what happened when a NTV actually spent a few days at the port with everyone from porters, clerks and managers. Also hear what the Burundians,Kamboni militia and others on the ground say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcmP59dzYvk Really, you should watch it. 2 Likes |

africaken:The strategic decision to withdraw was made by the Commander in Chief not the guys on the ground. After a meeting in Chad. The regional blog refused to provide a relief force if an invasion ops was to carried. The enemy force left behind was mauled and later harassed by anti-balaka. Their sf backers left them. |

africaken:The majority of the SANDF general and senior officers are from the cold war era wars. With a lot of experience in both counter-terror and terror ops. Both sides which fought each other. If the force was to deploy for COIN ops and difficulties were met solutions or answers wouldn't be outsourced or found with heavier casualties at a later stage. A slight number of instructors are from what you describe as "apartheid era". 3 Likes |

africaken: I agree, they should have had night-vision goggles, that's the only downside. However, the tactical acumen of those men isn't in doubt. They cleared those rooms in a very professional manner. |

africaken: 1. We were training a small protection squad for the man 2. 200 men stopping 4000 in their tracks for 13 hours, inflicting over 400 casualties on the enemy for the loss of 13 and forcing Seleka to offer a cease fire is pretty damn gallant 3. That book is written by a Janes corrispondent, it would ruin his career to write a false account 4. Those men are part of a protection force sent to protect that trainers as well as our equipment. If we sent men to hold the capital... do you really think we would only send 200 men, a handfull of unarmed tactical vehicals and allmost no heavy weapons? If you understand the mission in its proper context you realize that it was an immense feat of arms and in no way a "defeat" 1 Like |
