Like many of you, I also have observed that the World Bank (WB) has produced three very high ranking Nigerians in its history.

Just to be clear, a couple other Nigerians have worked, or still work, at the WB, but three of them have been the most high ranking Nigerians by far, namely:

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, as a former MD (second in the hierarchy)

Oby Ezekewesili, as a former VP for Africa (a rank comparable to fourth in command, sort of)

Arunma Oteh, as current VP and Treasurer (a rank comparable to third in the hierarchy, sort of)

Two salient observations:
1. They are all women
2. They are all Igbos

Two questions arise from this observation:
1. Does the WB distrust Nigerian males? If not, why are all these top shots females? There is no way on earth that they all are more qualified than the likes of Soludo to be a VP of the World Bank. Even if Ngozi is more qualified than Soludo, are the other two females also more qualified than him? I mentioned Soludo because he readily comes to mind, but there are also other male Nigerians in the realms of Economics and money matters with similar global acclaim.

2. Does the WB distrust non-Igbo Nigerians? If not, why is it that only Igbos occupy this position ''zoned'' (as it were grin grin grin grin) to Nigeria?

No tribalism, no antsiness, no mudslinging. Please.

This can't just be mere coincidence. Either someone somewhere is pulling the strings for Nigerian women, and in particular, Igbo women, or the WB really has double (one for females, the other for Igbos) thoughts about who from Nigeria to entrust with high and sensitive positions.

Which one is it?
Re: Have you noticed this about the World Bank and Nigeria? by chynie: 3:23pm On Jan 13, 2016
no because igbos are out there making it while yorubas are busing fighting over lagos

delusions of grandeur.

go and read the confessions of an economic hitman and you will weep that the western world are actually using your people at that level to destabilize the economy of the nation.

probably because they realise that some other Nigerians have values that exceed monetary compensation. no offence, but try and get that book online. the confessions of an economic hitman.

you will understand the role of the former minister of finance and why she was rewarded with the job.

Before she was a minister (the first time under Obasanjo) she was already a VP of the WB. So I do not think it has anything to do with being rewarded. Were Oby and Arunma also rewarded, and for what?

Prior to her ministerial career in Nigeria, Okonjo-Iweala was vice-president and corporate secretary of the World Bank Group. She left it in 2003 after she was appointed to President Obasanjo's cabinet as Finance Minister on 15 July 2003.

I can almost guarantee you that after Arunma, another female Igbo will be employed at a high level. This is concerning, no?

The rate at which other tribes are attracted to our Igbo women is quite alarming these days. Hope they won't be scarce for us someday? grin grin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngozi_Okonjo-Iweala

try and do some research OP, for the sake of informing yourself.

a) find out how much was in the federation account when she came in as minister under jonathan

b) find out How much she left there when she handed over

a) find out How much a barrel of oil was sold for before jonathan

b) find out How much it was sold for during Jonathan's tenure

a) find out How much the dollar sold for just as Jonathan came in

b) find out How much it sold for when he was leaving

a) find out How much external debt Nigeria had before okonjo Iweala came in a second time

b) find out How much it was as she was packing her load and exiting.

it's just a simple Google exercise.

You are confused.

1. She was a VP of WB before ever becoming a minister in Nigeria.
2. She became an MD after she left office as a minister the first time. Before then, she already had name recognition as a VP at the WB, which makes her suitable for a higher position there.
2. When she left office as a minister recently (2015), she was not ''rewarded'' (according to you) with any position at the WB. In fact, she no longer works for the WB.

These are basic facts. So not sure what you are getting confused about.

You tribal dolt! Soludo is an Igbo man yet he has not become a WB top shot. Have you ever wondered why no Nigerian male (Igbo or not) has attained the positions that three Nigerian females have so easily attained? Stop injecting your stuuupid tribalism into this. I am a man and I am concerned that Nigerian men aren't found worthy by the WB.

Perhaps because Nigerian men (of any tribe) are more concerned with making money in private sector organizations, and would rather not work for non-profits like the World Bank? For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adebayo_Ogunlesi

There are many other men who like him who may be less prominent, but who make far more money than one could ever earn at any position with the World Bank.

Sorry if I've burst anybody's enthusiasm for tribal chest-beating ...

"LESS PROMINENT". That is the key word from your post.

Now we can go back to the More prominent ones, that's what this thread was all about, after all.

You obviously have an English comprehension problem. The point I was making was that most men of equal or greater ability to these women don't consider working for the World Bank worth their while.

Oh, and by the way, "less prominent" is not a "key word", as it's actually 2 words.

Lol! You compare world bank positions with unknown obscure position simply to satiate your innate ethnic loyalty that you tried but failed to conceal under a veneer of neutrality?

Yea, " less prominent" has two words.

If it were a matter of "ethnic loyalty", why would I have said "men of all tribes"? Stop projecting your own pathetic insecurities on me. How does sharing the same ethnicity as someone who will never even know you exist make any positive difference in your life?

Let me explain it to you in terms you might have better luck understanding. Even a lowly associate at an investment bank makes more money than an MD at a place like the World Bank, so why would any ambitious young man want to work there instead of on Wall Street or in the City of London?

Lol! I should be asking you this question already. I never mentioned any name on this thread, let alone associating with them.

You are the one who was pained and subsequently complained of " tribal chest beating", even though thread was all about facts and stats, and subsequently ended up dropping a Yoruba name that have no link whatsoever with WB.

Why exactly did you feel the need to produce a non World bank product of Yoruba origin, in a topic that speaks of World bank, insecurity much? cheesy
