About 150 men travelling from the north, were, on Thursday, arrested by men of the state police command in Ondo town, Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
The men were said to be heading towards Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state in a truck with registration number KANO NSR 97 XZ when they were arrested.
Tribune Online learnt that some dangerous items were found and recovered from the suspects including 18 locally-made guns, two knives, 22 cutlasses as well as several torchlight.
It was gathered that the operation was led the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Funbi Fagun Police station, Mr Olu-Ojo Ogunmoyole, with some men of the Special Ant-robbery Squad from the police headquarters in Akure.
The arrested men were taken to Funbi-Fagun police station before being transferred to the police headquarters in Akure in their truck.
One of the suspects, Abdulahi Sheriff, said that they took off from Birnin- Kebbi to seek greener pasture in the state, saying they were farmers and not member of the Boko Haram sect.
He said that they decided to move down from the North because of the prolonged dry season in the area.
The DPO of Funbi Fagun police station told journalists that the suspects were intercepted during a surveillance operation carried out by the ant-robbery squad attached to the division.
He explained that the suspects had been transfer to Akure for further investigation but urged the people of the community to remain calm and go about their lawful business.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Femi Joseph, confirmed the arrest of the men but said investigation revealed that they were not member of Boko Haram group.
He said it had been established that they were coming from Kebbi to work as farmers in the state but said his men were investigating the items recovered from them and promised to make the result of the investigation public soon. CC:Seun,Mynd44,lalasticlala...
