This is why I frown so much on individual awards in team sports, they are never consistent and never quite tell the whole story. I would rather focus on titles and player's respective contributions to them.

Oezil did not even make FIFPro teams 1-5 despite being a German so you begin to wonder how did he win German Player of the Year. This is part of the inconsistency and sentiments that individual awards are all about.
