Former leader of militants, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has cried out on an alleged plan to take his life by defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta and Bayelsa states.

This was just as he said that the lawyer prosecuting the case preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) does not have the moral right to prosecute him in court.

Tompolo made these known in a letter he signed and forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari which was made available to Tribune Online on Sunday in Warri, Delta State.

He said the PDP defectors, who are now members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from Warri South West Local Government Area of the state had resolved to link him to the renewed vandalism of oil installations in the state.

He also alleged that the APC new entrants were planning against him in connivance with a lawyer attached to the EFCC who is also a member of the APC.

According to him, the EFCC lawyer who is after him was doing so because he (Tompolo) rejected an offer to buy choice properties from him.

"The crux of this letter is to let you know that they are dubious, mischievous, desperate, pretentious, manipulative and corrupt, therefore they do not share the same vision and mission with you as well as do not believe in good governance," he said.

Well, indeed, what is going on is a lot more than meets the eye. There are surely some forces out there that desperately want to see Tompolo dead. If I were him, I'd submit myself to the authorities and let them do the rest. I'm sure he has some privileged info on who's behind these latest attacks on oil installations.

Some people, for reason of their sinister agenda, desire to promote an escalation of the situation. They imagine bringing Tompolo on a collision course with the government would hasten the realisation of some inordinate pipe dream. They wanna use Tompolo to fight fight a proxy war with the Government, but apparently, the warlord wants none of it. Hell he's tasted the good life, why would he wanna throw all that away for nothing

More and more, the suspicion of some folks around here as regards those responsible this act of extremism and wanton destruction is being validated/confirmed.

Only time will tell.

@Omenka, the ideal thing Tompolo would have done is to submit himself to the authorities. But this present government has no regards for the rule of law. They disobey court orders, they pronounce the accused guilty even before arraignment, they kill and maim. How do you expect Tompolo to submit to such authority?

It's even possible that the guys sponsoring these recent bombings are in Buhari's government. I remember vividly that MEND is still aggrieved with Jonathan and Tompolo along with other ex-militants who benefited from Jonathan's govt. So its payback time. Remember MEND backed Buhari's presidency. They have the likes of Rotimi Amaechi and Timore Silva as their sponsors. So evidently MEND are now in Buhari's government. If Tompolo loves his life, he shouldn't submit to the present authorities. If I'm Tompolo, I'd run far away till this political militancy subsides. Yes, this recent militancy has political coloration. Quote me anywhere on this.
