I am a banker. I was working in bank X before i joined bank Y. I had wonderful experiences in bank X. I decided to join bank Y so as to have experience there too. But ever since I joined bank Y, it has been disaster working there from the very first day I entered there. The manager has been tormenting me from the very first day he sighted me. I dont know if we have struggled for a babe b4, i just dnt knw. I am a permanent staff but this man treats me like a cleaner. The time for us to be in the office is latest 7.20am but in my first week there, i came to work by 7.17am and this man was shoutn and embarrasing me outside the bank where customers queues up to withdraw from the atm. Dat was my first bitter encounter wit him. I was brought to the branch as Funds Transfer Officer but it took this manager a full month to create me as FTO. On my Third day on the job, He connived with another bad colleague and they pushed me to the atm as ATM Custodian. This I was doing with tears because this man was just making life unbearable for me by threatening me all the time. All the jobs in the branch was given to me to do except FTO jobs. He refused creatn me and even wen i was later created, he still refuse i work as FTO. Theres sometn called cashdrop box, and its meant for contract staff to work there but this man forced me to work there for even upto a month combined with atm custodian and other cash jobs while the other bad colleague walks around pressing fones and chattn. Later in November, the Area Manager visited and said i should be returned as FTO. Ever since then, this manager will pack other peoples job on me and be embarassing me in front of customers when I dnt finish them. Whenever I tried to complain, he will start shoutn and insultn me in front of customers. This has been happening for upto 5months now. I joined this particular bank in late August and by middle of september, 6 staff angrily left the branch because of this manager and his accomplices. By tomoro, another staff is leavn becos of constant quarell wit manager. The branch has been under wicked rule by this manager and the other bad colleague. For the past 5months I have been here, its been hell. I have reduced drastically in size. Even size 30 trousers are very loose on waist now becos of so much thinkn, insults and harrasments from this man.
I have planned to resign at the end of the month becos of the evil torture of this man and the other bad colleague. Please I need matured advices becos i am almost like a walking corpse. Each week i feel sick here. One sickness or the other.
Any day i remember i will go to dat office, my mind will be filled with sadness becos theres no single day this same man will nt harrass me.

Pls mods help me. I need advices and i have made up my mind to leavn here becos each day i see this man and the other bad man, i feel like shooting them to death becos as i speak nw, the other bad man does nothn in the branch. He only snaps pics,chat and walk around. He comes to work by 7.45am and the manager will nt say a word!

If he gives u the job of a contract staff, do it. If he adds saturday to your job, do it. If he screams at u in front of customers, swallow it. All these treatment is preparing u for a better future! Afterall u wudnt remain in that branch forever. In my case the head of operations asked me out,i turned him down politely and the branch became a living hell for me but I did my job well,saved enough money to start up my clothing line and resigned. 5months is too short to quit, stay there and ignore office politics,focus on your job and keep praying.

The last time i advised some one in a similar situation,

The question i asked was if he will resign if his pay were to be 1million per month after tax.

He replied "i will die there"

I told him "son, die there"


The best way to get back at eediots like that manager is to appear happy and form, " he no pain me" till he faces his own waterloo soon.

Op manage the job and endure,its just for the main time.
Most Nigerian boss are wicked and mean,its not a new thing.
If you resign now,you will later regret it or better still start submitting your cv to other organisations.
You are just 5month on the job,anything he tells you do it,even if he shout at you in front of customers,endure it.
He is helping you to remind God they your time of remembrance is due.
If I tell you my own experience....

Dear friend... please do not resign yet... except on your own will, your boss does not own the bank neither is it his father's heritage... just be strong, had a similar experience, this woman was worse than a witch in fact the devil dey learn where she dey... she'd abuse you in front of customers.. eye you, call you names in her dialect.. remain small she for just buy koboko for us...if we made a new hair do its war... smile at male customers she'd turn to Zelda the witch... oh God... I can't recount, staff members started resigning.. security men ran away, cleaners disappeared... my brother it was hell.. one fateful day she was summoned to head office and never came back to the organization... just hold unto God.

Before you resign exhaust other avenues..
*Escalate to the Area Manager
If this does not work
*Escalate to HR..

You should know how this works nah..

Sure if u do the above, you will certainly get ur FTO desk back..

My good friend, colleague was done same being a new entrant from Y bank, instead of coming early to check his ATM he goes to weed 1st.

Weekend Custodian re suppose to be close to the machine, he is at home weeding.

You like shout frm now till morrow, he would just keep smiling nd teasing you like "mama I be ur son ooo"....

Banking is all about empirical evidence.
1. Do you have evidence of these I'll treatment? I suggest you make some recordings. But before then,

3. Have a discussion with him based on facts and not sentiments.
4. Find a way to report to your hr in an articulated memo
5. I am surprised that mist people encourage this. Have you ever thought if smiling while being bullied? Thats the best way to make a bully enraged. Eventually, he will either have a second thought or maybe attack you which will lead to his exit.

Do not exchange words with him or give him any opportunity to score points against you. Cos, a day might come when both of you will be invited for investigation.

I went to Naija few years ago,started a job with this company and it was something else,I had to leave after 3 months and left Naija. Naija office can be hell. Search for another job and leave.

I need to give an advice here because I use to work in a bank too.
Try to contact your group head and seek for a transfer. You can look for any excuse as your reason for transfer.
Do not tell your group head that he's strict on you because that will be worst. It will bounce back on you.
Secondly, always copy your group head and your regional head in any e mails you are sending out to other branches. Just for them to know you're hardworking because he might have create a bad image of you in their sight.
Finally do not resign,try to adapt to his behaviour, be more hardworking and let everybody knows that you're hardworking and see what will happen within 2 months.

Am giving you this piece of advice from experience.

get a phone, record her tantrums and anonymously send to HR....

What that man is doing is nothing but BULLYING.

No bank not even the old generation banks will accept such.

You need to summon courage and escalate this issue. Either to your zonal head or HR.

He doesn't own the bank and he has no right to insult or abuse you.

The funny thing is that careers of men like that do not end well.

I won't be surprised if there's some under cover fraud going on. Hence the reason for his hostility.

Just do your thing well and leave the rest, nature would take its course in due time. I used to have a sweet manager, then all of a sudden another thing happened and my manager silently became hell for me, I even had to go for another job interview and wsa given the offer all in a way too escape my manager and other wicked devils in my branch, today as am typing this, the people who were trying to make My life miserable are no longer in the branch.

So bros, do your thing and leave the rest for mother nature.

smh...i hate these kinds of stories. i almost maimed one stupid boss i worked for because i almost died working for the scum of the earth. the emotional strain and stress did see to that. i left the job without 2months payment and got another in 1wk. bloody stoopid low life low self esteem boss started looking for me. prolly couldn't get someone to pick on anymore. so i walk up to him and say screw u, your job. take ur offer and shove it up that place where the sun never shines. freedom is good. op may want to leave before he goes insane, i mean literarily.

That boss was trying to assert his authority over you as a boss-you could have just laid low, play dumb, seem less ambitious and he would have played into your hands. Talking from experience, secondly, remember the first law of power by robert greene# Never outshine the master. Your boss surely knows you are good at what you do, in fact excellent but he's trying to frustrate you- because he wants to prove youre nothing- Two Options- you either resign or stay . If you stay , remain calm, be respectful to the boss, try and study the kind of person he is- do some unexpected favours, find out about his favourite hangouts, his social network/ affiliation, that way you might be making yourself more like boss boy in the long. You have an email of the Area manager. Make your point in a polite manner and then let him investigate it himself. Hope you get happy soon either with a better job (AMEN)
