EgunMogaji: Ok I got ya .... This all sounds strange I mean how can you not know from getting married in 2011 till now have no indication that the marriage was fake unless it's real and the poster just looking to get out of the marriage without the divorce route (not saying it is, just seems to damn strange to me) |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by Portsmouth86(f): 12:07pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: Ok no worries just finished my night shift at 8am but jeez this topic has got me haha, it's just so odd, surely there would be alarm bells ringing especially if he was persistent in getting to the US. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by Nobody: 12:11pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
Portsmouth86: Its a con and sadly when the foreigners family is in on it like this it becomes believable. I know of a situation where the USC Wife lived in Nigeria with her Husband for six months. They lived with his Sister and her kids. Guess what? The alleged Sister is the real Wife. Everybody is in the US now. |

EgunMogaji: I know it happens but why only now look into it, I'd have been straight over to Nigeria to the ministry of interior for information and look at the marriage book etc. 1 Like |

Portsmouth86: I see. I am certain that she's legally married with a valid marriage license else USEL would never have issued a spousal visa. She knows the next steps to take. |

EgunMogaji: Anyone can view the marriage book so why is it not in there. But I have started to think the same so divorce it is @LAjibade dear I think your either to contact US embassy or just file divorce |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by sonnie10: 2:03pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
There is no truth in the whole of these. They could not have married in 2011, petitioned in 2012 then arrived in 2013 and a permanent residence was given. What they probably got was a conditional permanent residence. The 2years start counting from the day of marriage to the day you first petitioned. There is a box to check which shows the duration of marriage when petitioning. The 2013 date is just the time their petition was approved and they decided to travel. So when counting, do not even consider the 2013 date. All I see here is one year marriage duration (2011 -2012) prior to petition. Timeline 2011 .......Married 2012........Petitioned 2013........Approved and arrival 2015........Condition Permanent Residence expired. 2016........Became a Vagabon |

Timeline 2011 .......Married 2012........Petitioned for him on APRIL 19TH 2013........Approved MARCH 2013.......ARRIVED to the USA MAY 13TH 2013........Received his ten year permanent residence card same month of arrival 2013.......Left August to never be seen again. Anyway, I am tired of all these talk. I'm just going to contact an immigration lawyer and the embassy as well |

Let us know when you round up your movie script. There's no iota of truth in your story. Tell us something different. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by sonnie10: 3:51pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
Timeline This is not true. You can not get married in 2011 and petition in 2012 and you would be given a 10years permanent Residence. It is never done. The reason is that 2011-2012 is only one year. They count from the day you were married to the first day you filled the petition form. In fact there is a box on the form you have to check and indicate for how long you have been married. So they go by that. Forget the 2013, it is just the date of approval. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by tpiar: 4:18pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
The license in the op has an issue date of mar 12 2011, the photocopy of a marriage certificate is also dated mar 12 2011. So when was the waiting period between applying for the license and the actual wedding? Perhaps I am missing something here, of course the marriage cert could also be a different type than the regular one. Can you apply for a license same day and get married same day in Nigeria? |

But will a man who has scammed someone and broken the law be visible on facebook? That bit doesn't make sense to me It also doesn't make sense that the poster only tried to contact him on facebook. If someone owed me money and didnt respond to me on facebook, by the time I start messaging and tracking down all his/her friends no one will tell the person to come and find me to stop the embarrassment. OP Nairalanders cant know the law better than you who live in the system Have you reported this to the authority's and given them details of his facebook account He doesn't sound like someone that difficult to find. I havent read through all the pages so maybe im missing something here Under what circumstances did this man simply walk away? Did you report him missing? was there a prior argument? As for the certificate I dont think that the US immigration will be silly enough to grant someone residency based on a false document so it must be an original document. I have a lot of questions but the poster has deactivated. I believe the poster is genuine though and she got married to the man, however what happened after the wedding I don't really know. 1 Like |

sonnie10: Wrong info. The two years is from date of marriage to date of entry @ POE. If the two years passed when the visa is bring stamped at the post then it automatically changed from a CR1 to an IR1. If they got married on May 12th 2011 or before then that explains getting a 10 year GC in the mail. Please don't mislead if you don't know. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by sonnie10: 6:13pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: You are little informed on this. The visa they got in Lagos expires after 6month if not used. Upon endorsement at POE, it servers as Temporary I-551 evidencing Permanent residence for 1 year. However, a conditional residence card is usually issued within this 1 year period (in less than a month). Now answer this question, what would have been their answer on the box that says, "how long have you been married?" on the petition form. For your information, what ever answer they gave is used to determine the residence status and not their date of arrival. Don't just assume that anything automatically changes at the point of entry when a case has already been determined. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by tpiar: 6:23pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
well, what I'm seeing is 1. op said she filed for someone 2. she hasnt seen the person since 2013 when he got his green card and vanished immediately after 3. she showed some documents which do not match each other when inspected (she didnt give an explanation for this) 4. she is an American citizen most likely first generation 5. she gave a name for the "husband" which is as strange as the unmatched documents presented 6. the photos posted show a much earlier time than 2011 7. the faces in the photos were covered (hidden) in a manner that suggests someone very familiar with pictured documents, alterations and computer usage. Not amateurish at all. 8. etc (the op understands this part). these are the claims or facts presented to the best of my knowledge. "someone she barely knows" here is in the context of the thread or discussion, nothing more. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by Nobody: 6:39pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
sonnie10: I think I asked you this question previously but you did not answer, "How many people have you petitioned successfully into the USA in the past 5 years?" You are completely incorrect on everything you wrote. If they were married for one day when they petitioned, they will put married for less than a year. If the approval process dragged on and it's 2 years plus 1 day then they get an IR1 automatically. When they get to POE they will get a temporary IR1 stamp. It's okay to guide but guide with correct info. If you have access to Nairaland.Com then you should have access to USCIS.Gov Again, have you petitioned anybody to the USA in your life? Re expiration of visa that you mentioned, that'd just a red herring on your part. We already know that the visa was used unexpired to enter the US. Additionally the visa is valid ONLY if accompanied by a current physicians result. Valid visa, expired doctors results = turn back at POE. So you're the one that is little informed. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by sonnie10: 7:21pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: Sir, know this today, for every immigrant visa, there is always an expiration date on it. For CR1 category is it 6 months. This part is actually ridiculous; FYI, nobody will ever ask to see your physician result at the POE. As a matter of fact, all medical screening is done before you are even granted an interview in Lagos. They have their accredited medical center linked for that purpose. How possible is it that someone will even have an expired medical result when those examinations are done within 2- 3months before the interview? |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by Nobody: 7:34pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
sonnie10: Trust me when I say this, there's nothing I can learn from the misinformation that you've been sharing. Nothing. A K1 visa expires immediately when used at POE, a CR1/IR1 expires upon entry and hence why you're issued a temporary GC stamp in your passport. As far as medical exam stuff, you're going to get someone in trouble with your frankly dangerous advices. What do you think is in the brown envelope that you hand over at POE and why do you think all first K1/CR1/IR1 candidates are taken into an office to be processed? Please come back with something credible. |
Re: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by sonnie10: 7:45pm On Jan 26, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: The issue was not at what point the visa expires but whether or not there is an expiration date on visas. So, don't start on a wrong premise. How is it difficult for you to put series of events together? What ever medical information you had in the brown envelop was processed 2-3 months before your interview. Apart from the HIV test, others are immunization which some do not even expire till ten years. So, how then did you come up with or imagined that someone will ever have an expired medical record. Give us a scenario please. |

For anyone that cares, your medical exams always have an expiration date which is about 6 months to a year. You can I enter the USA on a visa that requires a valid medical exam which included family based visas. Here's an astute write up on the differences between the two spousal visa and this OP I suspect entered on an IR1 which gave him a 10 year visa. http://www.immihelp.com/forum/showthread.php/36560-difference-between-IR1-AND-CR1 Additionally, before I leave this thread, OP, there's a consular officer from USEL that posts in the travel section. Good luck and if you need any local assistance my Wife and I are in Los Angeles. |

Portsmouth86: Hi there, I noticed you posted your copy of your Nigerian marriage cerificate. I can confirm Mine is exactly like yours, on a plain white piece of paper, (not a parchment paper typically used for certificates) just your normal standard paper, no colours whatsoever. Even the coat of arms is in black and white. The only colour as you pointed out is the ball point pen. I was a bit worried about mine, because i would have expected as an important certificate to be on a parchment paper (So it lasts) or at least the header should be in colour or something. I thought the UK one has a colour but obviously completed by hand by the relevant parties. See attached sample found through Google search. For clarification, please kindly let me know if my description of my certificate is same as yours?
