Government cannot provide all the jobs in a country; they need the private sector to help boost the numbers of jobs around. In Nigeria, it's not that the private sector is not helping but the jobs created in the sector is not save or stable for the future of employees. The fault goes to the government that neglects the function of protecting employee's interest at the sector. Employee's face mass sacking, Layoff, exploitation and so on. The only benefactor in the sector is the owner. For Nigeria government to create more stable jobs in the country, they need to start tidying up the jobs in the private sector. Private sector jobs in the country shouldn't be part-time job or contract job. It is time to make them worthwhile jobs.
The first with the largest number of employees i will be discussing is Nigeria private school jobs. This sector of the economy holds 3.5 million- 4 million workers in which 99% of them are still seeking for a well paying and stable job. Employees of this labour waste years of their service on the job to keep paying bills like house rent, electricity and waters bills, child school fee(partially) and other little bills. They use an average of two years under an employer and a total average of 6 years in the sector. Some employees even spend 10 to 15 years at service with nothing to show for it. The only benefactor in the sector is the proprietor/owner.
Salaries in private schools/college differ in respect to state. In lagos, employees under the labour earns an average of 30 thousand naira monthly. 20 thousand naira in Oyo; 25 thousand naira in Port Harcourt; 10 thousand naira in Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Kwara; and so on.

Challenges employees are facing under the labour are underpayment, exploitation by their employers, lack of labour union to fight for their rights, their years in service are not insured and retirement plan is not available.
An instance is one Mrs. Mojisola X in Osun state who worked with a private school for fourteen and half years. She later resigned and opened a provision store believing the store will earn her a better life. She didn't receive any form of gratuity and pension on retirement. This is one out of the numerous occasions across the country.

To tidy up the jobs in the sector and protect employees interest, I will recommend these policies.
1) Minimum wage should be approved for private school workers
2) There should be an established labour union to protect the right of workers.
3) Compulsory pension plan insurance for every private school employee

Implication of the policies.
- If minimum wage is set for private school workers; for a private school to survive and meet up with the new operating cost, it will either increase school fees or admit more pupils/students. The policy is not directed at shutting down low cost school. but for low cost school to survive, they will need more pupil.
- When wages is set, many of these private schools with no adequate facilities will fold up due to inability to meet up with the new standard of operation and their pupil will be available for those in operation. So any low cost school with facilities will survive.
- It will standardized the schools in operation.
- Employees under the new labour will be well paid.
- The increase in fees and the shut down of many schools will increase pupils/student transfer from private schools to public schools which will force the government to recruit more teachers.
- The pension plans will guarantee regular benefit for employee at retirement.
- The pension plans will also provide employers with tool in retaining workers. That workers who value their retirement are more likely to stay with the employer.
- It will stabilize job in the sector.

Government negligence resulted to the lack of moral responsibility in the part of public school teachers; and this negligence started since the days of free education in primary&secondary schools. Also, another thing that weakens the standard of public schools is the high number of private school establishment littering the streets of Nigeria. Most of them are operating in a flat, uncompleted buildings, under shades and even as close as 100 meters to one another. Sharing pupils/students meant for a school among five of them.

From developmental point of view, we can't because of low cost schools abandon ideas that can help create jobs in time like this. As beneficiaries of low cost schools are coming to join the labour market

What we have in public school is lack of motivation and proper monitoring. In a situation where Government is not after the well-being of her employees,there are many ways to motivate your workers to work and at the same time increasing their productivities.

Low cost schools help d parents more dan d employer of labour,is it d fishmonger dat makes less dan 1 dollar a day n also wants her child to have quality education,which she knows she can get frm public schools,b hapi abt increment in fees of her ward,when her income has nt been increased.

I am of the opinion that, the private sector should be regularized,. Not only private schools, starting from traders upward needs reviews. Not even a system in place that works in Nigeria. Most of us have beautiful ideas but 'we no get mouth' lol

Nice one Op. Most of the private schools in our Nigerian societies likes cheap labour. They exploit teachers by giving them 2-3 subjects to handle yet the teacher's salary is nothing to write home about. If only the government can think well and implement this policy, it will make the jobs in this sections to be taken seriously and the issue of "Boss" threatening to sack his/her staff because of any little mistake will be no more or very minimal. The problem with this country is our system, if we have a system that works just like this, jobs in the private schools will be taking seriously and also help the teachers to fall back to something after retirement.

Great thoughts @Op. I strongly believe this is what this nation needs. Of course when changes comes, it doesnt fall on the good page of everyone at first, but one good thing with change is at the end we will all benefit in one way or the other.

Education is the bedrock of the change we need, if our private schools are regulated and the government takes more responsibility in making the public schools what it should be, then we will be on our way to a better Nigeria. I have for a long time held the opinion that teaching should not be a last resort in finding a job, men and women with passion for the students and desimination of knowledge should be the ones teaching... I bliv these policies can help us achieve this. If the minimum wage applies to school then worthy school which are started on a mission of impacting knowledge will get like minded team to join them. school and teaching should leave the realm of survival to the realm of impactation of knowledge and building of morals and values... this is what schools should be.....this is what real teaching does.
In my humble opinion teaching should be one of the best paid professions...because the future of the engineers, doctors, pilots, governors, presidents lies with them.

Our educational system should be based more on practicals & skills acquisition. There should be 70% of practicals & 30% of theory in all our educational system, by so doing we will be prepared to be self employed even when the job is not there.

You are right but there is a large margin in the ratio of low cost school owners that are the major beneficiaries and their employees who are being exploited.
We must decide either to save the employees that constitute 97% or the 3% employers.
