PROFILE

OWELLE ANAYO ROCHAS OKOROCHA...a man on a mission

‘Some men achieve greatness; others have greatness entrusted to them’

Rochas Anayochukwu Okorocha’s antecedents right from conception to birth and existence till date points to the fact that he is a rare specie born for a rare assignment!

To signpost his unique mission on earth, Rochas Okorocha, as if in a hurry to come into the world was given birth to on the way to hospital by his mother late ... at Ogboko in Ideato south local government area of Imo State.

Born into a poor family, life was not a bed of roses rather a story of struggle, hardship and difficulties!

Rochas Okorocha in a bid to survive as a youngster hawked in the streets, yet he persevered and remained committed to making a future out of the seeming hopelessness of the times and seasons he lived as a growing child.

Rochas Okorocha showed early signs of greatness when as a nine (9) year old child he did what most elder ones could not do as he bought a television and at the tender age of 14 he shocked everyone when he bought a bus even when most of his elders and peers were yet to save funds barely enough for feeding!

Certainly, Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s life is divinely crafted and designed to affect his generation in many ways than one.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s business sense and venture increased as he ventured into cement sales still at a very tender age. But it was real estate that made him and strengthened his financial base so strongly.

As a man with a very strong understanding of the relevance and place of education in today’s world, he combined education with business and today, Rochas Okorocha has the following educational qualifications

Master of Law (LLM) University of Jos, Plateau State
[07/02 9:17 am] Ik Ogbonna: Bachelor of Law (LLB) University of Jos, Plateau State

Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Benue State University

Diploma in Law, Security and Conflict Management, University of Jos, Plateau State West African School Certificate – Juladaco Secondary School, Jos, Plateau State.

Primary Education - St. Joseph Primary School, Barkin Ladi, Jos

Having seen poverty and its devastating effects in the lives of men, he made a spiritual contract with his creator in prayers requesting to be blessed so that he could be a blessing to others...

Indeed, that pact with his creator paid off as God has truly blessed Owelle Rochas Okorocha in all dimensions of life with material, financial and spiritual blessings.

Having been so blessed by God, his foray into politics and public life is purely born out of his desire to contribute his quota to the upliftment of the fortunes of our dear motherland and never to enrich himself as is often seen in most political ambitions of most politicians!

Now, his concern, passion and heart desire is to help the poor, the voiceless and the masses who daily struggle to keep body and soul together!

Owelle Rochas Okorocha hates injustice, poverty and laziness. He is indeed a stickler for excellence and is an advocate of hard work as a precursor to living out a dream and achieving ones vision and projections in life.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha was born on the 22nd of September, in the year of our lord 1962 into a Christian home.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha is a good family man married to his lovely wife Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and they are blessed with six children besides many adopted ones.

As a result of his love for children, many people do not even believe that he has biological children! He does not only love children, he also loves the sick, feeds the destitute, hugs the infirmed and genuinely wines and dines with the lowly placed without reservations and with true care and love.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a unique Nigerian, a great Philanthropist of no equal measure, teacher and educationist, an orator, an apostle of peace, a detribalized Nigerian, politician, great business mogul whose name is synonymous with success,

As a philanthropist, he is unconditionally committed to alleviating the plight of the less-privileged in the society as a basis for economic emancipation and social justice. His foundation, the Rochas Foundation, provides materials, educational and medical sponsorship for the less privileged.

This commitment to providing education to the poor children saw him establish the Rochas foundation colleges all over the zones of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His passion for education knows no bounds!

The Rochas foundation schools located in Kano, Jos, Ibadan, Owerri and his home town Ogboko provides free, qualitative education to over six thousand children from poor homes! The impact this has made in the lives of thousands of school children is indeed huge as the hope of a brighter future becomes more real to these children who would have been confined to a life of low living as a result of lack of education!

Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s love for the sick lead him to organize the first ever truly party for those living with HIV and AIDS at a time when the stigma for the disease was very high. In the party, Owelle ate and drank with them. To instil in them a sense of worth and acceptance, Owelle Rochas Okorocha made a uniform for HIV positive which he also wore alongside other dignitaries in other not to differentiate and segregate between those living with the disease.

Rochas Okorocha believes in the future and strongly looks at the brighter side of life in spite and despite formidable obstacles and oppositions which comes his way at any given time!

His love for children is unparalleled as he always makes out time to stay with the children and even tells them stories that will motivate and inspire them to aspire for greatness and desire to make impact in life. Wherever and whenever he sees the children, he is always drawn to them with all genuine attention, care and love!

Even in the rain, Rochas Okorocha’s love for the children didn’t allow him abandon the kids in the rain. He dances and enjoys himself with the children all the way! Certainly, this is a rare quality amongst top government functionaries today!

In Nigeria, within the Christian community, the name of Rochas Okorocha will not be forgotten in a hurry! This is due to the role he played in the completion of the Christian ecumenical centre otherwise known as the National Christian Centre in Abuja. Before its completion, the ecumenical centre had become a huge embarrassment and shame to the Christian community as a result of long abandonment due largely to the huge amount of money needed for its completion.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha took up the humungous challenge and rallied the Nigerian Christian community and today, the ecumenical centre is standing in the centre of Abuja courtesy of the resilience and dogged spirit of Rochas Okorocha!

His hunger and passion for peace in Nigeria fired him to establish the national peace forum which had many prominent and eminent Nigerians attending the forums

Owelle Rochas Okorocha is truly blessed with money! To serve Nigeria in another capacity he forayed into politics largely to contribute his quota towards the development of the country.

Rochas Okorocha has a great track of political journey so far in different forms and dimensions. But his political life was not without challenges

He had aspired to become the president of the federal republic of Nigeria on two occasions.

He contested for the office of the president with tremendous impact and was unanimously adopted as the presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003.

In 2007, Owelle Rochas Okorocha also contested in the Peoples Democratic Party platform for the office of the president, federal republic of Nigeria and emerged runner-up to Late President Yardua!

He was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

He was the former national chairman of youth mobilization in the PDP and operated as a bridge between the old and the young!

In 1999, he contested for the governorship of Imo state during the elections.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha served as a member of the constituent assembly representing his constituency in 1994 and made impressive showing as young as he was with brilliant and sound ideas which were instrumental to the amendment of the Nigerian constitution.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha was a presidential adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo on inter party relations

He was a former member of federal character commission

He had also served as former chairman, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)

Former Pro Chancellor as well as Patron, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON)

But today, his tenacity and resilience has paid off as he is the executive governor of Imo State, Nigeria.

Since he became the governor of Imo State, it’s been a new song of unprecedented developmental strides in Imo state. the state has become a reference point of developmental efforts in Nigeria as great leaps and giants strides has become synonymous with the name Imo State under the able leadership of governor Rochas Okorocha.

For the first time in the history of Nigeria free education has been given to school children and students up to tertiary education levels thus shattering the age long held notion of that free education is not possible.

The roll call of evident and people oriented developmental strides of Owelle Rochas Okorocha within a short time in office as governor of Imo State is certainly amazing!

· Free education from primary to university levels

· 27 new general hospitals are currently going on for all the 27 LGA’s in the state

· 305 pre cast storey building primary schools for all the 305 INEC wards in the state are simultaneously being constructed in Imo State

· Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS), a professional school with world class trainings for all fields

· The first ever chapel in Imo state government house

· Over 1000 kilometres of road network

·  The first ever Ikemba Ojukwu centre

· The Hero Square

· Heroes Apartments

· The Bongo Square

· The Imo International Conference Centre

· The freedom square

· The Hero’s villa

· The hall of fame

· The new city of Orlu

· The new city of Okigwe

· The Odenigbo Guest House

· Sam Mbakwe Expanded Exco chamber

· Ndubuisi kanu Exco chamber

· Hero’s park

· Commissioner’s Quarters

And many more projects.

The question in Imo State since Owelle Rochas Okorocha took over the saddle of government has been where is he getting the money instead of the usual question of where has he taken our money!

He was conferred with the traditional titles of “Owelle Ndi Igbo” and “Dan Jekan Sokoto” in a unique and unprecedented ceremony by the body of traditional rulers of the Southeast and the North led by the Chairman of the Southeast Forum of Traditional Rulers, Eze (Dr.) Ezo Ukandu, JP and the Late Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido (CFR). He is also the Omorodun of Yoruba land; the Okala of Etche; the Talban Gwagwalada and Uban Talakawa.

He believes that no matter the height he has attained in life, his greatest joy is in identifying with his family, his roots, the poor and less privileged in the society.

Truly, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has a lot in common with Nigeria’s founding fathers such as the late Sarduana of Sokoto when it comes to caring for the poor, chief Obafemi Awolowo when it comes to free education and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe when it comes to personal courage and oratory.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha, surely is a man on a mission to restore the battered image of our dear motherland!

Lol, Abagworo shows his usual Ihioma road, Orlu video - one of the few roads Rochas was able to bring to completion in Orlu urban.

Orlu saw real development during Udenwa administration - with projects fetching money to the town.

If Rochas had maintained even the urban roads Udenwa built in Orlu....

Even the Akokwa to Orlu road was rebuilt by Udenwa, after decades the road was in coma.

Okorocha never even said Imo was broke what he said is what all the Governors unanimously echoed last month thaf the wage bill of almost the entire States have exceeded their income. States are borrowing to cover the deficits but he believes its best to device new means which will not require borrowing. That means is the concessions being opposed by a section of the State.
Stop lying. I know Orlu like the back of my hands. You're not more Imo than most of us here.

Only Rochas knows what his problem is with Orlu.

But fears are that he is sowing a very bad seed in Orlu/Ideato community; a seed that shall germinate and mature when he leaves office.

I like this very much! I'm not even from that region but as a Nigerian...well done being proud of your leadership history. One word of advice, they should have caste it with plastic resin so the pictures and colours will last.....rain and dust will ruin this sooner than required, else it should have been in an indoor hall.

My dear good friend,
I never thought I would have to address you in this way, but this post reeks of the lowest level of silliness, ignorant stereo-typing, complex ignorance, insecurity , low self-esteem and TRIBAL JIHADISM.

With such latent tribal jihadism deeply embedded in your psyche, despite your sojourn abroad, then upon what can you and I build a united Nigeria

And we wonder why Nigeria can never be united and function as one proud nation. undecided

I am soooo disappointed beyond what you can imagine.

Take for example, I had not only come to admire you and your humor and unorthodox views here on NL, but actually see you as someone I could call a friend online and offline.
In all that time, it has never mattered which section of Nigeria you come from, and should never ever matter.

This is the attitude that we, the enlightened should always push forward to our less enlightened brothers and sisters.

Your sweeping general statements about Igbos , your confessions about your Igbophobia embarrasses me FOR You.
I can bet you have never been to or have never spent 3 days in Igboland. I also doubt that you have mingled extensively with Igbos in your adult life.

You say Igbos problem is their lust for power. shocked
Are you serious? What type of power , political or economic power?

I guess it is Igbo that have always taken power through the barrels of guns since 1960?

Yeah. I guess Igbos are sooo power hungry that they have completely dominated the political rulership of Nigeria since 1967. Right sir?

You say Igbos like to dominate everywhere they go.
Really?
What is your definition of "domination" ?
By what force do Igbo use to "dominate" everything?
By force of arms, by intimidation, by murder, by sabotage, by genocide or by NEPOTISM ? Kindly enlighten us.

The never-do-wells of society always confuse and conflate the words " Excel", "Exceeding Expectations" and "Competitive" with " Domination".

In other words, the guy that scores much higher than you in school, the person that adapts better to the jungle nature of life, the one that sacrifices temporary comfort for future prosperity, the one who excels in what you cannot even start is the one Dominates you?

What a shame. A confession of the never-do-wells.

I reckon that you live either in the UK or in the US.
Who dominates you there?
Is it the Igbo?
Is it the Indians, Pakistanis, Koreans, the Lebanese , the Chinese or the Caucasians

Now, you say Igbos controlled the armed forces prior to civil war. Right?
Did they kill or murder your brothers or cousins to attain those positions in the 1960s or were they simply the ones who showed interests and were rightly qualified for such positions

Now, the Yorubas, for example, control most of the professional bodies in Nigeria.

My question for you is; did they gain such dominance by DINT of academic HARDWORK or through murder, sabotage and barrel of a gun
So, can you say that Yorubas are power hungry, and by extension, evil, because they work hard to excel as professionals ?

You sir, are the one with victim mentality here, obviously the perpetual, most pernicious type.

When will you and your type grow up, wake up from your sleeping mat and join the competition?

Social Darwinism is the order of not only nature, but our global society.

Igbos have NO APOLOGIES whatsoever to little people, people burdened with self-deprecation, for our inherent abilities for perseverance, creativity, versatility and unceasing drive for excellence.

If that is what you call " lust for power " and "seeking to dominate" , then kindly stay behind and continue Sulking till thy kingdom come.

And yes, Igbos are definitely not happy that since the end of the civil war, our growth and potentials have been deliberately stymied , because we have to wait for, make way for , and forcefullly slowed down for federal quota system, and the people who rely entirely on the perverse federal structure for survival.
bruv, nothing i wrote was personal. my best friend is igbo. was explaining to Abagworo and KingEbukasBlog why they think there is a conspiracy against igbos. i was just tryna tell em its nothing personal against igbos - its just that people are treated how they present themselves. and yes this world deals in stereotypes whether we choose to accept it or not. the police in america is as effective as it is because it deals with stereotypes- then it will be up to the individual person to prove them wrong. but trust me, stereotyping is a very important tool and it can save your life. having said all that - let me go and read your post cuz i made this post without reading yours first. I only read the first few lines before feeling compelled to drop this post wink

and no i do not have igbophobia - like i said, my best friend is igbo. in fact all my best friends thrrough life in secondary school and university have been igbo, so dont even try to use that against me lol. listen, i am a free spirit and i abuse every tribe in nigeria if you read my posts - i abuse yoruba alot too. so this is not a personal thing. i have no allegiance to any tribe in nigeria. i am tribe-less meaning i can speak my mind on the deficiencies of any tribe. i am sure you have read my posts were i say the yoruba practices are nonsense and archaic.

so an example of an international stereotype - nigerians are corrupt people. <<< this stereotype can save many peoples ( foreigners ) lives abroad cuz when they approach a nigerian they approach with caution. so stereotypes are good. they can save your life

Hopeless b.astard, stop mentioning Anambra on the same place with your useless Imo state. Imo state is messed up in all indices, stop trying to feel good. Real pictures will roll here soon.. cool

You abused my State and yet expect me to be gentle. If what you see in Onitsha is development then we are on different pages of life. Orlu, Old Owerri and Okigwe are the towns in Imo State comparable to Onitsha in terms of housing prototypes and street life. Oguta is beautiful and so is Owerri. By the time we start counting Nkwerre, Amaifeke, Umuaka, Egbu, Nekede, Irette, Ogbaku, Nwaorieubi, Mmahu, Anara, Mgbidi, Amaraku, Akokwa, Abaja, Ahiara, Mbieri, Egbeada/Ubomiri etc. then we have stooped to Nnewi level.

is a Nigerian state get it

This is a typical Owerri outlook. Let us do it with pictures. Owerri can only be compared to Nnewi in terms of development. Even at tha Owerri is below Nnewi in economic importance. Oguta is a mess, ordinary Osumenyi or Amichi makes Oguta look like shanties.

see this guy mentioning towns in imo state.....i have spent pretty time in bot states dude.....what about Ekwulobia and obosi and several cities and not towns in anambra...u just mentioned villages in imo....talk about infrastructure and industries...mehn ur imo is never up to 1/500th of anambra;even education which imo was known before for
Re: ImoAt40: Okorocha Celebrates Past Governors by Schematics: 4:31pm On Feb 07, 2016
Abagworo is an id.iot that just like feeling good with himself even though imo state is in ruins. Even some rural roads in places like Agulu is a rocket science in Owerri, their only town. Orlu is at the same level with Ekwulobia, while Okigwe is at the same level with Umunze.

It does not please me to put down my fellow Igbo States like it pleases you and your cohorts. However I was in Nnewi recently and felt embarrassed with what I saw. Same with Awka I have pictures but I will not post them to ridicule you but search your heart and accept the simple truth. Owerri today is by far the most beautiful city in Eastern Nigeria. If not for the old parts in Douglas, Wetheral, Tetlow, School Road etc Owerri is one of the most beautiful and planned city in Africa.

I passes Owerri every now and then en route to PH, I must confess, Owerri is a total mess and it runs contrary to what you talk about here. I must confess that Imo state does not have a governor. Below is Owerri, can you deny that too? This is supposed to be the most popular road in Owerri. Let do the picture thingy to prove the point. In your heart of heart you know that Owerri is a mess and can only be compared to towns like Nnewi level of development, though Nnewi has far more bigger economy than it.. cool

I thought you people have retired to your website after mocking Yorubas. In Igboland the worst coward is the man whi eats his vomit. That's what you guys are. If indeed you are principled you will never log on to Nairaland in your life.
