When others wrote JAMB and passed it, why did you not write/ fail/ meet the cutoff? Since you can always go back to school, or convert your HND to a degree, I don't see the need for your ranting grin

Imagine, I was invited for an interview. In a place i dropped my CV while the organisation was still under construction. On friday i got a text from them inviting me for an interview and the instruction was that you come with two passport and nothing more. But on getting there the HR started asking for CV's and original certificates which he succeded in using to chase most people away and then he came up with the big one "If you are an HND holder please leave" and this was the same organisation that invited me, i didnt apply o, na CV I drop. My question is what crime has HND holders committed?

Stop wailing.

There was a time I wrote an Aptitude test in a recruiting firm in VI, I passed, but was later told only NCE/OND and HND would be given a job.

They asked all BSc and BTech/BEng to go home.

And I'm a BTech holder.

I was depressed.

HND is actually equivalent to a year 2 undergraduate going for BS.c, confirm it on google or wikipedia

Thing most of these companies do not realize is that they need more of HND than BSc holder... BSc holder here yab me i no send you. My reason is because based on the purpose of establishing polytechnics, they are the ones required to do the work while BSc holders are more or less their supervisors. Even at the there are HND holders who are good at the supervisor work cos some BSc holders just has the title for fashion cos they no sabi shii.

These companies should learn not to underestimate the worth of some people cos at the end of the day, they need people to deliver the job required and not mare title.

And yes i am a graduate of BSc and i write this! lipsrsealed

HND/B.Sc disparity is not new in Nigeria.
If I was an HND graduate, I would never save my money in a Bank that discriminates between HND and B.Sc. Holders so they can know how discrimination pains

There is a difference polytechnic education and university education, one is a technician while the other is an administrator in the same field if the employer is looking for someone to manage a process he will go for a degree holder, if he needs people to do the work he hires polytechnic graduates, however it would be wrong to equate them after all the exams they went through to get admitted are not the same, one is superior to the other.no polytechnic student did not try to go to university

Id advise as many people as possible to get a bsc. From ur Nd try a Bsc.

The reality on ground is they dont match. A first class Bsc holder wont be treated the same way an upper credit hnd holder will be treated. I dont know if its right or wrong, but thats just reality.

It has actually been a cold war since time immemorial. Even organization manned by HND holders recruit more of HNDs than BSc, and vice versa.
My base is, don't let anyone make you inferior. One of mentors will always say, "it is not in the degrees, it is in the deliveries!"
I know a Professor who once started from HND. So brace up, and look beyond the paper & nomenclature.

Jesus is not white, Jesus is not black....Jesus is GOD! Don't feel inferior.

My candid advice to you is if its possible u change ur statues cos the policy will not change the only thing that can change is u..this is the same advice I got back then I obtained my HND back then but unfortunately I work with an organization who don't recognized the cert banking sector for ur info but my dear when I got advice I went back for my bsc and today I av finished the bsc wt 2.1 currently doing my MSc and glory be to God i got my promotion wt the bank.

Moral of the lesson is nothing will change except you my dear if u remain complaining about this believe me the policy will not change. HND and bsc syndrome in naija may not change now cos the issue has been there before now and it will be there for long.

Then, polytechnics should be scrapped in the 1st place, what the point of after getting an HND, u den move to degree, it makes no sense.

I understand your point though, but it still make no sense. If all HND holders should go for degree then, HND should be scrapped.

What we need is the Govt to make their policy straight and clear. One man course is everyone's course. There is no blaming OP on this. If poly's were not made available,no one will attend it.
Re: I Was Thrown Out Over Hnd And Bsc "Wahala" by uncjay(m): 10:15am On Feb 08, 2016
this madness just has to stop, please how can we get the government involve in this to put an end to it. If polytechnic graduates can not be employed then why do the country run a polytechnic system of schooling and even at that, these graduates usually appear more learned and efficient than their counterpart in the university.

Then what is the ish all about? It high time we start reporting and canversing the government take necessary action about all these companies put them in check, stup!d hr.
Re: I Was Thrown Out Over Hnd And Bsc "Wahala" by somez(m): 10:15am On Feb 08, 2016
My dear, dont worry yourself over going back for bsc as advised. Go for a certification around your course of study. If your an accountant, gain certifications in quick books, tally erq, peacHtree etc. Am telling you this cos it helped me. I got these certifications while in school, and believe me, 3 months after graduation i got a job with an international Ngo as Head accountant / admin. Dont depend on your degree alone, get certified. Dont forget pro exams too. Cheers.

When I see people saying they are going to the polytechnic, I cant just help but pity them. The discrimination in the labour market id massive. I finished ND and still wrote Jamb. Then I got admission to start 100L at University of Benin. My friends at the polytechnic were laughing at me saying that was backwardness. To cut the long story short, I have a very good job today and most of them are still at home and the few ones working are teachers. Sorry bro and I think the Government needs to do something about it.
But I graduated from polytechnic and 7 of my frnds who are BSC holders with good grades are at home.

Anything to say about that?

I feel your pains dear. Dust yourself and move on. I have never regretted graduating from a polytechnic. Am on my second job today in less than a year after NYSC (Both Multinationals). So many BSC and MSC holders attended these same interviews I attended and did'nt make it pass the first stage. That Job is not for you! Please! Don't let it weigh you down. You will get your own job soon. Just keep improving your skills and get professional certificates if possible.

Don't let anybody make you feel inferior!

You are what you think you are!

Good question! *clears throat*. The crime u commited was "not switching over to a university after ur ND" and dat's punishable under section 8, subsection a, b, c of the "employment criteria code and ethics".

Here in Malaysia, what matters first is what you have in your head and not your certificate.

the bitter truth dear, I must admit in some poly school common corper without experience whatsoever teach ND student.
Even in the polytechnics there is discrimination between hnd or bsc..

The fact is that you cannot equate both qualification. Some of us with ND before going to University struggle to with stand the study level of University. Infact most drop out from Plant science, Animal science at OAU and University of Ilorin after ND in Agricultural Technology. In my field Agriculture The Monotechnic/Polytechnic guy has more practical esposure but the person with Degree guy will need individual efforts to achieve such level of efficiency. As an entrepreneur i will invite boths and lets what they know speak.
