flokii:SW and SE candidates migrate to the SW after their education and secure lucrative employment. It leaves the SW with sizeable 'migrant' labour population and diminishing control of their resources. The last election exposed the possibility of political control of Lagos by candidates with SE ancestry. 5 Likes |

The standard of education has fallen in every part of Nigeria. Testimonies of corpers posted around the country says it all. Special centers are abound in all parts of this country especially the private schools. I think that is what should be addressed, an average secondary school student doesn't want to read to pass anymore they all want the easy life but they can sing all the lyrics of songs, they know all the telemundo characters etc etc but basic things about books they dont know. Also the smart phone has done more harm to this generation of primary/secondary school students than good. They spend all the time chatting etc etc. Youth corpers are the ones that can tell that the rot is real and honestly its in all parts of the country, forget all the stats. Educational sector is in a danger zone. I still feel the real deal are the students in the Unity schools, stateschools (some of them) , military schools, navy and airforce . At least they dont do special centers, a lot of private schools and some state schools are spoonfeed their students with answers during these exams to protect their reputation. 2013 I was in a bus going to mile 2 and it was during WASCCE there was a young girl with uniform inside the bus. I think she had an afternoon/late morning paper (Economics). There was terrible traffic and some elderly people asked her what time is her paper she answered. We all checked the time and it was past time she mentioned, and we were saying come down start trekking or jogging( We were stuck in traffic at volks bustop and her school was a private school barracks bustop opposite Ojo barracks) Then she made a statement I can never forget "they are writing it for me". I felt as if someone slapped me I put myself in that same position. I attended CDSS OJO at that same barracks and I am sure if it was myself or my classmates were in that position what we would have done was to drop and start running seriously because we know nobody will write for us. God will help us 4 Likes |

In 20 years time, the East would get to the plateau which the SW has reached and it could be the turn of the NW or NC to be on the upward slope. Nigeria go better!
Oga no dey sheepishly console yourself... What 20years time....? Igbo are setting pace already you are taking of 20years time.. Are you well at all? I gettam before no be property... And the law of diminishing return is not just a law but a natural phenomenon that governs everybody irrespective of race or anything indifferential in human. Go and think deep concerning the academic future of your little ones... Imagine twenty years of substandard education in sw for your kids.... 5 Likes |

TamunoRichard: SW people are educating their kids abroad. No self respecting SW middle class guy I know is not asking his kids to do UK exams equivalent of GCE and the US exams as well. The problem is more than idiotic and shallow inter tribal rivalry. The low IQ politician that dumbo made Minister of Education is still in Rivers Government house speaking his poor english without shame. 1 Like |

kay29000: I lived in Lagos and I served in Ibadan. If I tell you the things I saw in both Lagos and Ibadan esp. all these big private schools in Lagos, teachers give their students answers to WAEC questions so that the school has a high pass rate and they can boast about their level of success in WAEC and I mean very expensive and popular schools....pls leave all this talk abeg,it happens everywhere and the effect of this cancels out in all regions when checking the statistics. The region that still comes out tops after the effect of malpractise has been cancelled out should be commended and other regions should try to find out how they go about it. All this unhealthy rivalry and always looking for reasons to discredit other people's achievements does not help anybody. I know for a fact that anambra has the best govt schools in Nigeria now. Their govt has pumped so much into the educational sector and it is seriously paying off. 16 Likes |
In my opinion,I think one of the reasons why Lagos is doing so badly in waec is because of social media and gadgets. In the east, you hardly see secondary school students with expensive phone;the highest you'd see with them are those phone which cannot browse that they sell for 1500 or 2k. Lagos has the highest percentage of smart phone users among junior high and senior students. This in my opinion is making them lose concentration in their studies. Since my husband bought my 10year old son a smart phone,he dropped from 1st position to 3rd,and his teachers and headmistress sent for me just yesterday to complain. That same yesterday the headmistress said they caught a girl in jss 3,same class with my son watching pornog.raphy in her class after school hours with her phone. What has the world turned into. They should start by banning the use of smart phone by high school students until after WAEC![/quote Very concise. While technology has its own merits , it would be undoing of nigerian youths if things are not put in place. you are still talking about phones I know of some 10 year old that can sing shakitibobo from begining to end. I had to warn my sister to guard against her kids. my nephew knows almost all the adverts on tv word for word. while it is good in one aspect , if not watched it might turn to an addiction. we tend to take things with levity. we are too lax with other inanities such as pdp vs apc, igbo vs yoruba to see the danger that lies ahead 1 Like |

Fact! Many Nigerians errorneusly believed that SE is only interested in business simply because they dominate in the SME's & retail sectors nationwide. In reality, both in the private & public sectors eg in places like Lagos, P.H, Abuja etc, there are as many Igbos as there are others, even the indignious ones. In times past, business was seen as a means of livelihood for semi illiterates but today, things have changed, many Igbos after acquiring university degrees, discovered that there no jobs or even when they are employed that what they earn is just a fraction of what those in business earn! Today many Igbos on graduating now take over family businesses or branch-out in a more modern way. Yesterday, I went to buy laptop but during discussions, I learnt that he graduated from FUTO(same as I) in 2008, his outlet is just like office, he drives a honda EOD, is married & living very comfortably. I also ran into my old course-mate, he is almost through with masters but sells stock-fish!! 12 Likes |
