after they have been wasted , those of us that remain. are we any better

Ones a precedence is set, there will be deterrence! Guess you know what I mean. Revolution ushers radical changes. For instance, after a revolution, draconian laws may be invoked for corruption. That will tame that inherent corrupt trait in us all. Capital punishment wouldn't be too bad, after all thousands of Nigerians are dying indirectly as a result of abuse of office by our politicians!

I have read your comments, what baffles me is your sentiments. I mean just view things objectively. Forget the wailers; You!!! Use I eyes and carry out critical observations yourself. You are trying to put up a lame excuse that jonathan budget was the same...Then I begin to wonder why was Jonathan booted out in the first place? wastefulness true or false? If you can't make a change when the tension is High(all eyes on you) is it when we let our guards down and allow you to round up? Now I ask you if this budget reflects Gej(clueless) budget and we booted him out....will you brace up yourself to boot out PMB....when the time comes if he continues to tow this part? or are you going to shift the goal post to another 16yrs....i am waiting for your response!
I would simply advise you to go back and look at the comment I made and the reason why I made the comment. When you read my comment, also try to read the statement of the person I quoted then you will know why I said that. Nobody wants a blackened pot and I never said a blackened pot was a desirable thing, however it makes not sense when a blackened kettle is calling a pot black.

APC has been in power for nine months....and the same old story has happened again.

The good thing is that the mess is being exposed beforehand....and one must give some kudos to the National Assembly for sitting up and doing its job.

But...let's be honest. This thing happens everywhere. And it starts from the bottom...and goes to the top.

I guess we have to get a vibrant private sector. That way...the money making corruptible can head out there(and be easily isolated there)...and the honest can stay in government work.

This is going to be interesting.

I give it to PT, most of what is captured here are totally unjustifiable, especially under the current economic realities. Some of these items have lifespans of over 10years so I just don't understand why it has become a norm for our leaders to keep proposing expenditures on these items in every budget! Take car jacks, caution triangles, and kitchen utensils for instance. I criticised Jonathan's government for this and surely find it unacceptable it is repeating itself under this government.

Kudos to our press for being steadfast in their duty. This is the sort of "opposition" we need and not one that is bent on pulling down the government at all cost, criticising in a manner that suggest an emotional breakdown.

I hope these anomalies are brought to Baba's notice. It would be VERY unfair to the good people of Nigeria, especially Baba's fervent supporters like my humble self to have the budget passed without reviewing these expenditures.
i don begin dey loose hope for this government sef.

‘A budget that moves domestic spending in Aso Villa from N580m to N1.7bn cannot be a budget of change’

Abuja – Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) on Wednesday in Abuja, berated the 2016 budget and called on President Muhammaduu Buhari to withdraw it and go back to the drawing board.

Abaribe while making contributions during the consideration of the budget, said the proposal was faulty on many grounds and could not be implemented at it was.

He said that predication of oil benchmark at 38 dollars per barrel when the crude oil price had fallen below 30 dollars per barrel made the budget unrealistic.

Abaribe faulted the government for increasing spending by 30 per cent based on borrowing.

“Mr President, my colleagues, this budget is indeed unique. After the budget presentation, the finance minister has never come to explain the details of the budget as it is normally done.

“It is a budget of change I agree, but it is a change in the wrong direction. I say it is a change in the wrong direction because it says that it is based on zero budgeting requiring all expenses to be fully justified.

“Mr President, a budget that increases spending up to 30 per cent based solely on borrowing, in what way are we justified? That is the question we want to ask the people who brought this budget.

“We know what is going on in the global economy: this budget is predicated on an oil benchmark of 38 dollars per barrel and I can now say that with oil being 28 dollars today, this budget is dead on arrival.

“The job of the opposition is to help the government to get its priorities right, so I want to please urge this government to withdraw this budget and go back to the drawing board,” he said.

The senator also faulted the adjustments made in the budget as well as allocation for spending in the Aso Rock Villa, saying that it was too exorbitant.

He said that the adjustments rather than reduce spending in areas where they were not necessary only spread it into different offices.

“Mr President, a budget that moves domestic spending within Aso Villa from N580 million to N1.7 billion cannot be a budget of change.

“We were told that in the revised budget there was an adjustment due to error, we agree but what has happened is that up to N7 billion were moved from buying vehicles and spread to offices.

“It also increased the spending that is due to renovations within the Villa.

“They are going to renovate the Villa with N3.9 billion: what else do you want to renovate there that Nigerians will see in the Year 2016?” he asked.

However, in his contribution, Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC Yobe North) blamed the previous administration for the lack of funds due to the embezzlement witnessed in previous governments.

He said that this was the 17th budget he would be debating as a legislator and noted that not more than 40 per cent implementation was achieved in the last 16 years.

“The proposal before us is the first budget where the executive has deemed it necessary to give ordinary Nigerians genuine hope.

“N500 billion allocated for school feeding and social SAFTEY NET is commendable.

“It is time to say oil should not continue to play dominant role as we have suffered economically and politically: it is time to diversify this economy.

“The direction of the executive is the way to go. `That is, we should make every effort to have the real sector-agric mining and manufacturing.

“The budget deserves the support of everyone, including my colleagues on the other side. When we were in the opposition we supported the PDP, they should support us,” he said.

I don't believe that a right thinking sane person will say a word in favour of this fraud called budget. Since inception of democracy in Nigeria have we ever had this kind of national fraud called "Proposed Budget" that even neighbouring countries are making jest of the so called Giant of Africa called Nigeria. Our President said Nigerians are criminals, this budget saga just confirmed it that him and his associates are also criminals.
Of course no right thinking person would support this sleaze of a budget. But yeah, the joke is absolutely on you for your sheer ignorance in thinking this sleaze started in the 2016 budget. Have you ever taken a look at past Nigerian budgets since 1999?... You can just start by downloading the 2014 and 2015 budgets from the budget office website and compare it with this one to get a clearer picture. If there's anything about the latest trend then it's the fact that things like this are now being exposed.

O yes! all these loopholes you are seeing today also existed in all previous budgets even with higher figures. The only reason why you are aware of this sleaze today is because there is a desire to correct it. This fraud has always been the tradition in all Nigerian budgets since the days of the military. When you hear of the word 'budget cabal,' it did not start in 2015 and it did not start in 2016. As a matter of fact, the greatest criticism on this budget is the fact that it was just a duplicate of previous budgets, NO CHANGE. So yes, just in case you don't know, all these dubious figures have always existed in Nigeria's budget even before I was born. You can simply go to the website of the budget office and download the 2014 and 2015 budgets, they bear a striking resemblance to this present budget.

I am only disappointed though because I expected the APC to put in some due diligence in cleaning up this mess and CHANGE the past order. It is purely a case of ignorance for anyone to think this mess started in 2015 or 2016; as a matter of fact, exposing it now is the beginning of the end of this sleaze.

We all know all these existed in the previou gvts, that is what this govt capitalised on (fight corruption) to get to the to the seat of power. They should have done thorough sreening of the proposals before coming out to present it with fanfare.

After castigating the last administration for things like this, they shouldn't have given room for any EMBARRASSMENT. This is Cluelessness as well.
