Steps To Surviving This Harsh Economy by makazona(m): 10:06am On Feb 10, 2016 |
The world has been inundated with harsh times for centuries. From the travails of the early man to the wars and chaos before and after the world wars, man has been faced with a gradual but steady decline in all index of healthy living. Some school of thought posit that in every era, there must be the poor and the rich, but as the day go by, the poor increase geometrically while the rich increase arithmetically (I guess, we still recall the Malthus Theory of Population). Because we have more of the middle class and far more lower class, how do we navigate our lives and live “well” in the midst of these entire storms. The Lifelines are as follow: 1. Wake to the Situation: According to Lady Burton in Life of Sir Richard Burton, men are of four types: He who knows not and knows not he knows not, he is a fool—shun him; He who knows not and knows he knows not, he is simple—teach him; He who knows and knows not he knows, he is asleep—wake him; He who knows and knows he knows, he is wise—follow him!. Where are you here? Well if you realize that there is a problem, then the solution is not far off. 2. Introspect: In times of harsh economic conditions, people go moody and think frustratingly a lot instead of introspecting. Such situations demands setting or resetting our priorities. What is it you pay for but can do on your own? Those services you pay for, is it not possible you could handle them? 3. Cut down Cost: During hard times, even the government will cut down the budget, so why can’t we do same- not only because the government did. What about switching off appliances not in use at home/office to cut down on electricity bills? What about eating at home more instead of expensive dishes at that popular restaurant? Do you still invest too much in liabilities like clothing just to look dapper or beautiful to the next person who perhaps cares not about you? You want to rock the latest and best brands just to post it on Instagram, facebook and other social media platforms? Less important things should stay out of the budget for now. 4. Take Cabs, Buses, trains instead of driving: When you drive your own car, you burn more gas/fuel and add more avoidable stress. Why not relax in that cab or train. Do some other things. 5. A small garden won’t hurt: In hard times, we may cut off most expenses but some will never go away. Feeding is non-negotiable. Plant some crops at the back of your house and you will never regret that. Feed yourself from your Garden. It’s possible! 6. Get it done: Procrastinations worsens our hardship. That plan that has been kept in view, should be worked on as delays make matters worse. Example: A business that would take N500,000 in January will certainly take about N550,000 in 6 months. That extra N50,000 could have been saved. So, go ahead and get it done. Read this article again and GET IT DONE! |

FOODIC: That's NOT all. A lot of genuine Christians are really suffering. Christianity is NO shield from the real challenges of life. The same sun shines upon the righteous and the wicked. Wisdom demands we follow the wise words and counsel from others, like the OP has written here. Life isn't as straightforward as religion will make us believe. 2 Likes 1 Share |
