cool See gobe. It is obvious that in the past (even as late as 1930s) Yoruba and Bini were joined at the hips. However, times have changed. Today, Yoruba is Yoruba and Bini is Bini. And that is the way it should be. The aborigines of Edo State are not Yorubas but the crown is definitely a Yoruba bloodline. And while I agree that the Bini Monarchy gets its authority from Ile-Ife (via DNA aka bloodline), they do not have to do that anymore. They are free to stand alone. For me, this is not even controversial. Live and let live. Most of what is happening is politics. Nigerian politics makes it difficult for people to admit the obvious truth. Smaller ethnic groups are very protective of their identity. Put yourself in the position of the people of Bini. With a population that is barely the size of little old Ekiti, you can see why they would react the way they do. Yorubas are arguably the most successful ethnic group in Nigeria. When you are this successful, bitterness and envy is usually what you get from folks who have not have it as good. But I worry that the Yoruba Nation is not as united as is necessary to continue to expand on our success, as the very nature of Nigeria continues to wobble as the years go by. I am impressed by the current Oni's resolve to do something about this. For this reason alone, he gets my support despite my reservation at some of his post-installment acts. The SW has always been the hub of Nigeria. We open our doors joyfully to all people. While this is a good thing, I believe its time for us to strengthen our unity and look inwards. And we can only do this successfully, if we avoid getting embroiled in silly controversial issues like the aforementioned. Yorubaparapo.com. Yoruba ronu. Let's go.

Those Benin indigenes that have been fed with fake history by their parents and those useless IPOB Biafra youth who always think the Yoruba nation is in rivalry of prominence with their tribe and would therefore support anything that is against Yoruba should come and learn from this historic picture and stop arguements.

My first question on looking at this picture is 'who is at the centre'.
Anyone who sits at the centre beside the man in suit is the archetypal oba, the first among others. Someone said it's the ooni, maybe he is the first after all.
What's Oba of Benin doing there? Thought someone said he is in the class of Obi and Eze and not an Oba

It is a shame that benin people can deny their relationship with yoruba. I am very sure their ancestor will not be happy with this. It is undisputable fact that they have their root in yoruba land. And ooni is father of all

LOLzzzzzz

I never knew yorubas like binis like this o..

hehehehe..See wailers at the top trying to grab binis to their side...

FYI, my mum is Benin and she does not in any way look like Yoruba...Even in Benin, the Yorubas are like aliens.. The igbos are seen more like family than the yorubas... My cousins, uncles, aunt from my mum's side don't have any atom or trace of yorubish...

The Binis are Binis. Yorubas should mind their lane!

How does IPOB factor into the current discussion? Hatred for Igbos will kill you.

hmmmmm Oooooooooo piiiiiiii ur head is there. Some people just like distorting history sha, well, that's what you get when you use Oral Tradition. Had it been there is a written history, a true account of the past, things wouldn't have been like this.

Yorubas are conquered by Oba of Bini son Oduduwa, The Binin prince Oduduwa which is the son of Oba of Benin conquered yourubas and yourubas refer to him as god which fall down from haven with cock and palm fruits. Yorubas are slaves to Binin kingdom, the name Oba is a Bini name and word and Eko is a Bini word, The Binis also conquered Aworis and Eguns in Lagos and gave it the name Eko before yorubas started migrating to Lagos. Prince Eze Chima of Onitcha kingdom is one of the biggest allies of Binin Kingdom,he help Binis in their conquest.
