42 kittens from 5 mothers; l originally bought the breeders (large white and rhoder cross)from Obasanjo Ota Farm and now they are occupying everywhere in my farm! Rabbits are wonderful animals!!

l am very sorry everyone for uploading pics this late.the pics to load have never been a problem but the issue l had with my laptop and service has been very very poor through my phone.once again,l am very very sorry.

l am in lao,ilorin,kwara state.l practise both free range & cage system because free range allows the use of only one or two cages although only one mature male can be kept in one free range environment;two mature males in such will fight until one of them is dead! Using the two methods one keeps only the servicing males and females about to give birth in the cages.The free range space is floored but sand is spread on it so that the rabbits stay clean.There is a lot to talk about from feed(the cheapest among all animal formulas) to handling,caring,crossing etc.Feel free to ask me any question even on fish breeding and rearing by God's grace l am good (God is the only expert l know ) However if you come around,you will be able to see and learn a lot.God bless you all.

As at the time l was starting with 3 families of rabbits,my original intention was to breed them so that l may supply my family with 2 rabbits per week for consumption.However l haven't been able to do that because no matter how many rabbits l have at any point in time,people keep asking me to sell and l always have no choice;we only eat them once in a while! It may interest you to know that what l am doing about my wonderful creatures here on nairaland is the first and the only of any kind of publicity l have ever done.People (mostly co-fish farmers) just got to to see them on my farm and that was all: People tell people and l sell! For your feed question,l use only leaves during rainy season and both leaves and formulated feed during dry season. The formulated feed,
l do in form of poultry feed not pellets,to avoid extra cost and simply mix well with water to avoid having to offer them water to reduce workload.

I am so delighted to hear all this sir, if not for the fact that I am going for service very soon. I'll heave visit you in kwara and get at least a family to start with.

Well,according to wikipedia, lifespan of rabbits is between 8 to 10 years.However the world record for longest-lived rabbit is 18 years!

Get started with a good foundation stock. Beware of fly-by-night sellers and find a reputable breeder to get your rabbits. A good foundation can make a huge difference in your production.
A good way to start small is by getting 2 bucks(males) and 4 does(females). This will allow you to start your breeding on a small scale and learn the basics. Having 2 bucks protects your breeding program if one of your bucks dies, giving you time to raise another while still using your remaining buck for breeding. Just be sure that if you are just starting out, start small. Making mistakes on a small scale is much better than making them on a large scale. As you learn the ropes, grow your rabbitry. And no matter how much you study on the subject, you will always be making improvements. Also, make sure you are getting your information from qualified producers. Everyone is willing to give free information, whether accurate or not. And especially with the Internet, anyone can claim to be an expert while sitting behind the keyboard. Unfortunately even many veterinarians are lacking correct information on raising rabbits and in fact,on other animals,and may give inaccurate advice to their clients. Ask people who have the same goals as you do. Raising a rabbit for show is completely different from raising a rabbit for meat production. And even those raising rabbits for meat production vary dramatically from the casual breeder who is more interested in the hobby of raising rabbits to the serious breeder who is trying to maximize their results and get the most meat out of every penny spent, while maintaining good, healthy lives for their rabbits. Find those who have been raising rabbits and learned through experience and association with others in the business. Getting correct information at the beginning of your endeavour will save money, headaches and time. It can make all the difference between a very rewarding experience and a less-than-optimal experience.
