Manonamission:

Of course, but it is gradually being phased out. E-dividend is a few years old already, it's not like it just started this year.

Thanks

To all newbies in stock investing;

stock can be underprice or overprice. Certain factors determine this. This could be company fundamentals, micro economics, macro economics and industry behaviour.

Understand that investment in stock is a risky business but with proper risk management you won't have any problem...

Define your objectives before diving into stock investing..Stock is not an end but a means. Are you a long term (>5years), medium term (>2<5) or short term investor (<2years) investor..Also, are a value or income driven investor.

How do I pick my stocks- this is driven by your investment horizon described above. However, when picking stocks spread your risk across industry. Don't limit yourself to one.

Worthy to note is that never put your entire cash on stock- its dangerous! Make sure only a certain percentage of your available cash is invested in stocks...this has a lot of advantages as it will save you from financial stress, loss selling and meeting unexpected expenses...

If you require further information please drop your questions....

thanks guys ones again for the liberality of sharing high valued information here, it has rekindled my interest in trading stocks.

I will mention a few;

Basically, my long term stocks would be;
1. Transcorp- Full liberalisation of the power sector by government portend great potentials for this stock. Just hope that recent union protest won't cause a policy reversal by government.

2. Tigerbrands- I expect Dangote, having bought back significant percentage in the company to reposition it for profitability.

3. FBNH- yeah, FBNH. Don't be surprised. The bank is carrying a huge toxic assets in its balance sheet no thanks to the massive loan granted to oil and gas sector...its so bad that it's considering cap re-injection to remedy the weak capital base in near term.

4. Skye bank, Sterling Bank- I foresee a merger not between these two but with other banks...

5. Oando- it will take some years for the company to return to profitability from a loss making venture..

Mid-term stocks; examples comprise;
Seplat- sound corporate governance, experienced management team, strong asset portfolio...

Dangote cement, WAPCO, ashaka cement- ongoing capacity expansion, increase in market share, favourable government policies, growing housing sub sector amongst others

Okomu oil, presco- these are agro allied companies with great earnings and sales potentials.. To benefit from government economy diversification drive...

Nigerian breweries, Guinness etc

Short term- i will like to mention that stock investing is not suitable for this purpose. Its ideal you put your hard-earned bucks in other stable investment vehicles to avoid loosing money...However, for those investors good at speculating ( though not as in perfect because either way speculation or gambling still remain largely risky), popularly referred to as JIJO (Jump in Jump out) on this forum, they engage in it a lot...You need to be well informed and watchful to avoid being bitten by Sharks or cowed by cowboys IF you must do it.

Aloha.

Please guys!! Is there any hidden charges Morgan capital group charge annually?! I just saw this ...INVESTOR A An investor with portfolio worth of N100,000 trading four (4) times a month (2 sales & 2 buys), thus having a yearly trading volume of approx N4.8m. Using MorganCapitaliTrade, the brokerage fee for the year will be N12,000, plus annual fixed access charge of N2,500 making a total of N14,500 annually. Using other stockbroking firms under the same circumstance will cost you N64,800. The total annual savings using MorganCapital iTrade will be N50,300. MorganCapitaliTrade offers you a superior online, realtime trading platform at lowest brokerage fee

The naira will weaken further at the parallel market this week after shedding nine per cent of its value last week, foreign exchange dealers and economic experts have said.

Last week, the local currency fell from 310 to 338 as acute shortage of the greenback lingered.

Forex dealers and experts expect the naira to fall further at the parallel market this week as demand for the greenback continues to soar.
“The situation has got to the point of hysteria now; everybody wants to hold dollars. So the demand is rising and piling up,” the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said. smiley

10 Reasons why I bought Access bank shares last week.

Reason No. 1: As at Q3 2015, Access bank PAT was N48b which already exceeds the entire 2014 PAT of N43b. That means the whole of Q4 (Usually the most active quarter) is pure increase! That is what I call a stellar performance.

@gbolah4real, I promised to mention it out loud next time I buy a good stock like this. Promise fulfilled.

Are companies allowed to change closure date for register without any formal notification in letter accessible to investors about a change in their register closing date.

Vitafoam for instance posted that their register will be closed last Friday only for me to check and see that they have a new date 15-19 February. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
