Match Preview
Guus Hiddink says Diego Costa is set to play
with a mask against Newcastle United on
Saturday after breaking his nose in training, and
he joins his “Zorro team” as the fourth Chelsea
player to wear the protective headgear this
season.
Gary Cahill, Nemanja Matic and Cesar Azpilicueta
have already worn protective masks this season,
emulating the look of Spanish fictional outlaw
Zorro. Seven other Chelsea players have done so
in the past decade.
Costa is the only fresh injury concern along with
French defender Kurt Zouma, who is ruled out
for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury
sustained in last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with
Manchester United, but Hiddink expects his in-
form striker to feature after re-joining training
despite breaking his nose on Thursday.
Discussing the injury, Hiddink told chelseafc.com :
“‘It was not a tough duel but he put his nose on
the back of the head of one of the youngsters
from the Academy that we like to participate in
our training games. He was very unlucky.
“They are putting a mask on Diego as well, we
are the team with a lot of masks, a Zorro team,
and he will come back do some light training this
afternoon as he must experience how he is
dealing with the form and the fitting of the
mask.
“I think he will be available but we must see how
he reacts in the light session. I hope, I am not
sure, but I think he might be available.”
Falcao is continuing to work back to full fitness
for the Barclays Premier League champions, but
Newcastle’s visit to Stamford Bridge comes too
soon. Alexandra Pato and Matt Miazga are also
unavailable, but they are both nearing returns.
Chelsea are still unbeaten since Hiddink’s return
as interim manager, but six draws in that
unbeaten sequence have prevented the 13th-
placed west Londoners from moving further than
six points above fourth-bottom Newcastle.
With Zouma out, Gary Cahill is favourite to
partner captain John Terry at centre-back and
Newcastle defender Steven Taylor hopes
unpredictable striker Aleksandar Mitrovic can
bring some of the fire from their training-ground
duels to bear on the Chelsea duo.
"For me, he is a class act," centre-back Taylor
told nufc.co.uk , reflecting on a decisive
goalscoring outing for the Serbia international in
last weekend's 1-0 triumph at home to West
Bromwich Albion.
"He is a good target man and is only young but
is bullying experienced defenders and knocking
them about. He takes a lot of hits but gets up
and gets on with it.
"I thought he was outstanding against West
Brom. He looked clinical, confident and showed
that when he went through to score.
"I love playing against him. We have some great
tussles in training but that's what we want for
each other.
"I give him a bit and he gives it back, because
that's what we're both going to get in the
Premier League.
"We have a great battle, we enjoy it, come off
the pitch and have a cuddle. Playing like that is
only going to help us both improve and that will
be a good thing for Newcastle."
For Newcastle, who shared a 2-2 draw with
Chelsea in the reverse fixture in September, Jack
Colback, the midfielder, could return to action
following a hamstring problem.

IF THE BLUES CANNOT MAKE TOP 4 THEY SHOULD NOT PLAY EUROPA NEXT SEASON BECAUSE IT WILL BE WISE TO CONCENTRATE ON THE PREMIERSHIP ALONE NEXT SEASON.

Draw soup loading... Nairalanders and Chelsea fans, please let us reason together smiley . After careful pondering, I perceive that Leicester are using Chelsea's "star" to "shine" grin . This seems to be a punishment for Mourinho's pomposity. To be concise, Leicester supernaturally swapped places with a prideful Chelsea team wink . Has anybody else ever reasoned along this line grin ?
