Husband Forced To Marry Wife’s Corpse In Ebonyi by NewsPoacher: 5:51am On Feb 14, 2016 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/you-must-marry-your-wifes-corpse/ Hours after the birth of her twin girls, Margaret Emmanuel gave up the ghost, leaving her husband with the twins and their three grown-up siblings. To make matters worse, Margaret’s family in Ebonyi are demanding that Emmanuel fulfils a vital aspect of their culture before the burial ceremonies even commence. Taiwo Abiodun reports. At first it was congratulations and celebration galore as Madam Margaret Emmanuel was delivered of a set of beautiful twin girls. But few hours after, the joyful mood turned sour and mourning took over, as news filtered in that mother of the twins had passed on. She gave up the ghost on her way to the hospital, living the twins behind without the very vital motherly care. It also marked the beginning of the trauma of her husband and father of the twins, Mr. Adejo Emmanuel. Aside being shattered by the news, he was suddenly faced with a somewhat insurmountable challenge of weaning two infants alone. But the trauma did not end there, only Emmanuel didn’t know at this point in time. |

Omo, forget. The couple obviously eloped or something. If they chose to marry without her family's consent (which isn't unusual) why is he giving himself headache? Where was her family all through their marriage prior to her demise? And why are they not mourning the woman, instead they are asking for bride-price? The man should just go and bury his wife and move on with his life. All these stvpid customs are way overrated. 17 Likes |

If you read where d man was asked how he met her, he said he met her in owo ondo state and they started living together.I know someone who cn never step feet in PH cause his baby mama died during child birth and the ladies people are calling for his head.If a man doesn't want to marry a lady in corpse then he should @least go and pay just bride price while she's alive and have peace incase anything goes wrong ckmayoca: 9 Likes 1 Share |

I do pity the man, but it's wrong to just pick a woman and start reproducing. The consequences can be like this. But 350k...that's quite high... He should go and negotiate with his baby mama's family. 4 Likes |

BaddieKay: A lot of fellas are still doing this mistake. It's very wrong and dangerous. You harbour a woman in ur house and if something happens over night, then u come out to cry they are wicked. 13 Likes |

I'm sorry but all you guys holding brief for these sort of archaic and stvpid customs are funny. It's like Una pick and chose which customs to favor when it is convenient. In some cultures in this day and age, widows are still made to drink water used to bathe the corpses of their dead husbands, their heads shaved bald, made to endure all forms of humiliation all in the name of customs. On top of that they aren't allowed to share in their husband's properties coz they didn't bear him a male offspring thereby throwing her and her daughters into abject poverty. These are women whose bride prices were paid o! Like someone said earlier, to be safe just ask your prospective wife her people's customs before taking the plunge to save yourself the future stress. 18 Likes |

ODVanguard: Please sir, they are not overated and dont ever toy that line. The wife's family actually own all the kids as no dowry has been paid. What they did to him was just to give him the leeway to claim the children. Without dowry and no wedding of any sort, then the man is just absolutely childless. 15 Likes |

And for some of you that may claim DNA issue etc. Well no law protects the man now. He cant claim the kkids anywhere in Nigeria. The lady's family can easily allocate lands to them, gave the kids a new surname and claim them. Dont ever toy with customs because Nigeria lwa backs most of them. 9 Likes |

kelechiodo:Nna gi muru gi. There is no two ways about it. The fear of the hullabaloo in marrying a corpse often makes youths a little bit responsible. Cohabiting and reproducing without going through the proper channel has it consequences. You can sue the culture and get stuck in court for ages. 10 Likes |

Distressing story. Question is, while having all those kids together, didn't the man think to wed her? Especially knowing where she came from? A small traditional do should have been sufficient. I don't buy his story that he didn't know about that aspect of her custom. She, or any member of her family must have mentioned this to him at some point while they were together all those years. What he should have said was, he didn't expect his "wife" to die pre-maturely. 3 Likes |
