When I say Mexicans, I meant the Mexicans in the American building industry not from Mexico. You also know they dominate the industry because a Nigga grin is not ready to do such work lol. Also bear in mind they know how to build with both concrete and wood (Framers).I know your state and I know how houses are built there.

Even Dominonng on Nairaland is using sheetrock. All those are not new in Nigeria. I am just pointing out.

I'm going to build my Mai Guard house out of wood when I'm ready. Let's finally put this to rest once and for all grin

I drew a polygon (views from most sides for security) wood frame on concrete slab. I'm even going to do an elevated wood deck on it for good measure grin

Info not yet enough.
Total length of foundation trenches or total length of the walls would be needed for an accurate estimate.

Nice, very nice. I also see siding.

So steel frame, weather wrapping, gypsum board, siding, the perfect storm. More grease to your elbow.

What are these boxes that I see framed in the roof structure?

What I'm dying to ask is if he can do a comparison for us between these buildings constructed in this manner versus the traditional manner, both price and time.

We build timber framed houses in Bulgaria and are now starting the same project in Ghana . I find the main reason sheetrock has not been used here is ignorance. Most people have no idea what it is. the same applies to timber framed housing, fast, low cost, cool and quiet. The main obstacle is once again ignorance. timber framed housing works well from Florida to Alaska, yet people will tell you that timber houses will not work here in Ghana because of our climate…yet there are many examples of timber hosing in Ghana built in the 1940s which are still in good shape despite negligence. I guess the technical colleges are still teaching old outdated technology."

I live in California and i have been working as a taper by trade for about 10 years now. because i am a finisher by trade, it gives me insight to proper framing and hanging (drywall) means and methods. i specialize in hospital construction and in so doing, i’m bound to highly detailed and meticulous procedures which would be very useful in this forum. i know for a fact of life that drywall construction is doable in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. its no different than drywall construction used in florida or Texas. I look forward to a time when one can purchase drywall produced in Nigeria (without having to ship it from china) and when that time comes, i’ll be more than happy to show the skeptics how useful and workable drywall is compared to the block finish of interior walls as it is now."

A required reading for any Nairaland builder and homeowner, imho.

I used 0.45 gauge

Your best bet is to remove the bad sheet and install a new sheet in the affected areas. You should have gone for 0.55mm. 0.45mm is just not good enough to withstand pressing in the machine. As a result of 0.45mm thinness, the joints are having holes here and there. I used 0.55mm Metcoppo and some 0.70mm in some area. I was advised by the First Aluminium guy to stay clear of 0.45mm because of complaints they've had.

Note: I first heard from Tower Aluminium that their so called 0.45mm is actually 0.40mm while their so called 0.55mm is actually 0.50mm. I was surprised the guy told me the truth. He told me First Aluminium actually have the correct gauge as listed on their sheets.

@engrkenny;tiles adhesive is also known as gum cement here in niger, its used as alternative to normal OPC cement in tiles laying and marble laying,
You can also use it to lay tiles on tiles(lay. Tiles on existing tiles without breaking old tiles)
It's as much high bound than opc(that is why they name it gum cement here)
How to use:prepare your floor or wall very well and allow. It to dry up for some hours(if it new house) then mix your adhesive with water (don't let it to be watery) then spread it on the area with the help of trowel then start setting your tile one after the other

A 25kg of this adhesive can cover about 8meter of tiles but the it very cost here although is very fast to use than normal old system

Thank you so much bro. There's no need to add normal cement to the mixture right?

What thickness does the adhesive need to have before you lay the tiles on it?

Is the application same for both floor and walls?
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by rotecch77(m): 8:33am On Feb 15, 2016
@engrkenny;you can add little amount of normal OPC cement (dangote, lafarge etc) to make it dry fast
Thickness of the mixture on the floor 2cm to 3cm thickness is ok, same applicable to wall

I know nothing about building like Mr egun tho who seems to be very resourceful and have answers for everything undecided ... But lets be real for once here. Its like you are advising the young man to go to yankee to study law and not UK when his goal is to later come to naija to practice. Everyone knows UK is beta.

@Brokensword this might not be the kind of suggestion you expect to read from me. But ask yourself these questions?

1.When you come back from your training oversea what do you plan to build with? Block or wood like the Americans?

2. If its wood and sheetrocks like yankee folks you want to train with....Are you planning to ship in all these quality building materials with current exchange rate?

3. If you still plan to build with wood...think about our climate in naija and also dont forget the termites too.

Dont forget to always begin with the end in mind....

If you just want to go to yankee to explore ....just say so and People will be able to advise u beta.

To buttress your point sir, the unit of measurement in the US is quite different from the British System we use in Nigeria, the code of practice too is not similar. These two can reduce time of assimilation to some extent.
