Teddeebear:So in essense you are saying the Yorubas are bullying Igbos?... Tufia gi!. That is very rubbish reasoning. The only people people hindering the success are the useless unpatriotic set of Igbo leaders who only sleep, wake, wine, dine and collect chieftaincy titles for achieving nothing when they return from Abuja. Today we have people like TA Orji representing Igbos in Abuja and you are here telling me Yorubas are out problem?... All man for himself, while other leaders of other ethnic nationalities are hustling for their people, what are Igbo leaders doing? 2 Likes |

We said it's 1 Nigeria so let other states benefit from the import and export boom hitting lagos and some SW states |

The senate and house of rep members from that zone should awake from their slumber to address the issues, that is what they were elected to do and not sleep during plenary. If a kano house of rep member is already putting pressure for the lift of suspension of emirates flight to kano and the north east lawmakers can sponsor a bill to establish a commission to rebuild the north east from the destruction by boko haram, then my brothers from the south south have themselves to blame. The maritime university in bayelsa was abolished and national assembly members from that region kept quiet, it only shows they got no swag. so for calabar and onne seaports, ss lawmakers should do the needful. |

EastanPower:Bro, everything in life mustn't be seen as a competition. This is just the first out of 4 budgets to come, we still have the 2017, 2018 and 2019 budgets. The budget for the SW dwarfs every other region because of the priority given to the Lagos-Ibadan road. Priority was given to that road for 3 main reasons, it's the busiest road in Nigeria (in terms of vehicular traffic), it's the most economically viable road in Nigeria (given that it leads into and out of the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria) and its construction is already ongoing and at an advanced stage; the idea is to complete already progressing contracts instead of littering the nation with incomplete projects. Once again, this is just the first out of 4 budgets to come, we still have the 2017, 2018 and 2019 budgets. |

obailala: in addition, the lagos/ibadan road is as important to the south east as the 2nd niger bridge is to the south east. that is the only road that lead to the south east from lagos. The roads that are more peculiar to the yoruba ppl in particular are not evn getting the attention of the government |

Avoiding stress from customs check points, bad roads and even high way robbers. |

Good question @ op. Also been wondering how a nation with potentials and population as huge as Nigeria have only one functional port for import and export (except crude oil) Very unreasonable. Imagine if Lagos port is attacked or something goes wrong, then the whole country that is not self sufficient in almost all sectors get static. If the government (states & Fed) is serious, piracy and other factors raised by earlier posters are things that can be well handled. The FG feel relaxed about piracy in other ports because one is functional (lagos). A progressive government won't think this way. But will stive to make all ports functional at whatever cost. The benefits are just unlimited: Employment, Development, De-congestion. In a functional Nigeria, minimum of 4 of the nation's 8 coastal states should have a port and at least an inland port. Lagos, Ogun/Ondo, Delta/Bayelsa, Rivers, AI/CR should have a port. |
Re: Why Is ONNE, Calabar & Delta Sea Port Under Utilized. by kayfra: 4:59pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
PaulJohn1: Wrong assumption. Onne and the other ports in that area are responsible for most of our crude oil exports. The price for insecurity is just added to the cost of producing and distributing crude. It's the main reason why our crude has an artificial $10 a barrel in cost or so for insecurity and instability. Buhari's response is deploying the navy and army to that area to secure it but a lot of people will call it militarization etc etc. Just a bunch of ignorant people. |
Re: Why Is ONNE, Calabar & Delta Sea Port Under Utilized. by PaulJohn1: 5:36pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
kayfra: It's good to know The navy has been deployed to those areas to curb piracy. Just hope it's given the same attention Lagos port will get if its faces this same problem. As for those calling the action militarization, they should be ignored. |
