After school, everyone bounces to the north east.

Bbdd I haven't heard from you o. What are you studying in OleMiss?

imperiouxx it looks like we are in the same field: Chem/ Biochem. Do you have any knowlege regarding OPT opportunities in the US health, Biotech, research, etc. industries?

I just know it has a high african american population. It also one of the states I wont like to study in (NYC inclusive) for various reasons. But I believe if you are going there, just make up your mind to focus and be safe... Therez a reason you got admission and you decided to go there, just do your best

Thanks a lot. Any light on mississippi? No one seems to have much good to say about that state.

Hahahaha. I feel you jare. Thanks. What about you? What school(s) and course(s) are you looking at? By the way, the prices on wakanow are given in naira. I hope they don't do magomago and convert to usd equivalent when I want to pay. Am I ignorant or is 300k for a flight from Lagos ng to jackson ms quite fair on qatar?

I'm still expecting responses from other schools so I may eventually not go to MS sha. Still weighing my options.

I've never been to Jackson. Lol. I'm actually closer to Memphis Tennessee than Jackson.
It's cheap here, I must say. The stipends go far here and that's very good for student life.

The thing is that there's a high African American population here and the difference between the quality of life of the two racial groups is very high. Sad but true

Well, I'll do my time and bounce. I actually like the state in some aspects though. Maybe it's growing on me.

Yea, generally MS is an African American populated state. It's funny to hear that the few whites moved out of Jackson (the largest city in MS) to nearby towns. Those that come to the capital are only there to work. Thats why the crime rate is high and the standard of living over there is poor. Madison is fair though.

Opt nowadays is by grace. Those organizations think it's all about filing for green card. The best is getting internship during studies but if you're going for thesis, you may not have time to get an internship position. I worked for my supervisor for few months during the opt before moving to NY after getting a quality assurance position.

Have you been to the south? You're in Nigeria analyzing the US. For the record, aside from Jackson which has unique problems, I don't see much of a difference between most southern states.

Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee all look the same to me.
You never come America and you're selecting state. Looooool.

I will advice you to come to MS.
It's a great place to get a solid education and you can do whatever you want after school. . Forget about Jackson. That's two and a half hours away. However, If your school is in Jackson. Guess what, people live in Detroit, Michigan and Baltimore, Maryland and they're more dangerous than Jackson

Imperiouxx schooled in new Mexico. He's in new York now. Be wise bro. 'll reply your pm later.

Hello gurus,
I visited stanbicIBTC bank today and asked about how much rate they charge if I use their bank MasterCard in the US. I was told they will charge the normal rate of 199 naira per dollar with a maximum monthly withdrawal limit of $750 cash on ATM. Can is be true ? I mean 199 naira/dollar ?

Hmmm I see. Thanks for this insight. I was a bit apprehensive that the state you school in may affect your mobility. I now understand that's not the case.

That's it. The good news is that those outskirts and towns are very good for studying and affordable. After schooling, you always have the opprotunity to live in any cities of your choice.

So because I am in Nigeria I cant give out my opinions again? You need to really read before spilling gibbersh. I make my own research about schools and cities OK. I mentioned NYC in my comment because I have been there and my sis schooled there so I wasnt talking based on guesswork. I only told him there are some states I cant study in and it was more like my opinion and NOT an advice. Dont throw that ''you are in Nigeria, what do you know about US Bullshit'' to me. You are quoting me off what I mentioned. how does be focus and safe got to do with southern states or whatever nonsense you analyzed

Bro thanks a lot. The school is MS State in Starkville and they're the only ones that have responded with a fully funded offer. Let's see how the coming weeks go sha. I'm still eyeing PhD offers from Tulsa and UNR. Looking forward to your mail, bro.

Cool MSU! It's a solid place man.
I've been to Starkville it's a nice town. Low crime, maybe a bit boring.

What's unr? Tulsa is in Oklahoma. Almost the same thing. Farm states.

Let me echo what Msnas said a few days ago. Funding is the key. If you get funding in Alaska. Go. Lol
Studying without funding is hell.

Whatever you are high on pls drop it. You just concluding that I have never been to US... Lmao "All seeing Eye". Guy mehn i don lose whatever respect i got for you. I neva knew it was a prerequisite to announce travel history on here before one makes a comment. I mentioned wakanow to dat guy cuz i used it to book and pay for a trip to NYC and expedia for a trip to Kenya. And like i earlier said, my sis went to Columbia uni, i went for her grad and i saw the whole bustling of d city and how high her rent was and it was a very small studio room. That is why i told him earlier i cant study in NYC. So i dont understand this "calling out" from you about not travelling or given wrong advice? Nigerians have this very rude attitude of trying to bring down their fellow citizen on the most irrelevant things. Guy if you wanna quote me, dont quote me to yarn dust abeg.

Wakanow prices are slightly expensive. There is a trick they used to mention here earlier about booking flight tickets, maybe you try it. and paying in naira is OK. the price you see is what you pay. well time still dey, wait till offers for other schools trickle in. The best i can give u is my opinion while u make ur choice. I applied for Public health. What course are you going for?

e never late. funding basically depends with the professor you want to work with, most of them need a lot of convincing, and they want you to probably have a research (thesis) with them therein have you pick some classes to catch up with what are doing undecided you would have to contact them directly and ask them if they have any ongoing project at hand, while you tell them of your willingness to work with them. simple!!! cheesy

Thanks, i know I can't escape sending emails to them directly, I just wanted your inputs.

Once it's about funding, don't waste time comparing states. Nothing is as good as school paying your tuition. After your degree you can move. That's exactly what I did.

Scam of the season!!! Those bankers are 419; they will not tell u all that it entails but I can tell you for sure, u can't withdraw from ATM in the US at #199 to a dollar, irrespective of which bank u use.

The highest degree when I was there in 2013 was MS. Tuition and cost of living there are really affordable. GA is competitive but you can get it so far you're in good academic standing. NM generally have few cities and are far apart. It's a white dominated state, so don't think of see more than few blacks. There is lot of snow in the winter and sun in the summer.
