My wife and I went for US visa interview last year B1/B2, we were asked of our marriage date and some other questions which we answered ok and the interviewer said OK without checking our documents.

But lastly, he asked me if i had for once entered for US VISA LOTTERY before which i answered YES. He asked when i answered DV 2012.

And the VO REJECTED OUR VISA without any explanation.

(NOTE:
I entered DV 2012, I was a Lucky winner, but later they said there is a COMPUTER GLITCH which VOIDED the DV 2012 result that time
and when the re-selection was done i wasnt among the lucky ones)

My brother i feel you badly. I was among the batch of people that won the visa lottery in 2012 that was eventually cancelled due to the computer glitch after one month. I still have a copy of the letter with my case number.i had even sent all my documents document to the KICC Kentucky. For weeks, i was in high heaven until the day i learnt that our visa lottery winning results was voided. I was devastated when i confirmed it on CNN. i already had a US non immigrant visa before i won and cancelled my flight with the hope that i was emigrating to the USA soon. I learnt that a class action law suit was insinuated by some of us but eventually we lost at the suit at the end. I have heard rumors that most of people that won that visa lottery that was cancelled have been denied USA non immigrant visa subsequently. if this is true then it would be unfair. Anyway, i learnt from the disappointment and moved ahead. After about three years God blessed with the permanent residence visa of Australia and Canada at the same time.

I never believed the USA could make such kind of error especially since the applications were sent in October and the results came out in May of the next year. They had all the time to vet and cross check the results before putting up on line. I almost felt my people for village dey after me. How can someone win visa lottery and after they cancel it ? but the experience trained me in coping with disappointments. I had a very low case number and was very sure I would have been called up soon for interview. I still feel the USA should have let the result stand because it was an operational error and should be seen as part of luck. I was not too interested in migrating out of Nigeria until I won that lottery. After the incident I made up my mind to try other countries that had well defined migration path and they worked. I hope they don't deny me visa in the future because of the incident as we submitted every information about our life history to KICC after we were notified that we won. I have been out of Nigeria and have not applied for a USA visa but frankly speaking I have always entertained this fear. I heard rumours that the initial DV 2012 winners were blacklisted but I don't want to believe it. that living in Newyork part made me laugh since you have tried other countries and it worked out well I don't think America issuing you a visit visa would be an issue and as for that blacklist thing for the DV2012 winners I don't think that should be true abeg what was your offence that they won't issue visa to you?

The class action lawsuit

I did not do anything wrong or institute any class action suit against the government.The people who instituted the class action suit were those people who were already in the USA either on students or temporal work visa and won the lottery and went ahead to pay for the regularization of their stay as permanent residents only to have their money returned back to them after rejoycing and living in cloud nine for one month. They paid immigration lawyers that toke the government to court but lost finally. The way the class action suit work is that once judgement is granted in favour of the petitioner everyone that falls in the category benefits from it wether you indicate interest or not and once the petitioner loses every one in that category suffers too. I just dey for Nigeria dey pray for the petitioner wey carry the case for head.

Sincerely i just did not want to contest the position with @LagosNIV, someone i met at the embassy after my interview was asked that same question tho the person said NO, but in reality did apply for DV-Lottery in time past and was granted (Though, i told him it was wrong to lie to get a Visa).

However, this strengthened my personal opinion that the question was used as a decoy to know if an applicant had once nurtured an immigrant intent BUT if such applicant have a STRONG tie back home would be approved on that basis, and if he/she was in a 50/50 position in the calculation of the VO he/she could be disapproved.

Again, the decision may have already been made based on the information that the VO had collected and they were just chatting while they completed their report.

I was Planning to use 10days in the USA but my company just granted me only a 6days leave since the program am going for is 3days. I already filled 10days in my DS160 form.I will depart immediately after the program. No flight or airline is cast in perfect gold.... But to think that all the airlines you trust at one time or the other have had crashes but this Arik have never in their history experienced any. And ARIK run this 12 hours flight almost everyday, every single month a year without any crash report... that's a plus!


If i may ask, do you fly foreign airlines for your local trips?

Myself would be flying Qatar in April and i wont run down Arik irrespective... and my choice of Qatar is basically a route thing.

My encounter with this old man who should be in retirement home but still choose to work, one thing i observed was that he is not interested in fun at all, he never looked at me self, he was just typing,(He's in window 9, Abuja US embassy

Summary, at the middle of the interview i thought i have gotten the approval becos seems so confused even if he don't have any idea of my field or many answers i gave him, he gave one man a visa, only because the man said his mom is a US citizen since 2001..
I was praying to be interviewed by one man in window 7, he seems calm and understanding, he gives you all the time in the world to explain yourself, he takes up to 5 minute to discharge any applicant he interviewed, another thing i believe is, what will be will be... Again their was this family of 4, 2 beautiful kids that was rejected, i was surprised because they looked very rich, maybe he didn't get the questions very well because i saw him choking at one point before the lady brought out Blue paper. .. Well everything happens for a reason, it might be on my best interest, because my prayer this morning was, if is something that will be good for me let it come and if not, let it don't.. My position today came out from a huge disappointment , Now i have spent almost 280k without anything to show for aside from experience, by 280k i mean the money i was scammed by trusted friend, flight & hotel to ABJ and so on... i just thank God
..Hope some people will pick one or two things from my encounter.. You guys can check and tell me where i went wrong, What's the difference btw creamy colour paper and blue paper?
One shocking thing i notice is that this people makes more than one million dollar daily, both ABJ & LAG embassy, and the monetizing part plays a role in rejection

my brother it can be so demoralizing! but every disappointment is a blessing in disguise....please don't give up...recover and re-apply in a couple of months.
