okay you're making me feel bad, I choose a polytechnic as first choice.... base on my financial status... but I could still do a DE when the money comes. Your points are quit strong nevertheless, people would still go to a polytechnic.

You are completely misguided o. Poly cost pass anything.

Uinbadan first year you pay like 50 including accommodation o second year u pay less than 20k. Most fed universities like Unilag, oau, funaab, Abu, Buk, are relatively cheaper than the cheapest polytechnic

After studying Chemical Engineering in a state polytechnic in Enugu, my eldest sister swore that nobody would ever attend a polytechnic in my family again because of what she SAW. And that was exactly what happened.

This summarises this article grin

there are lots of DE students in my school that said it's like all did in polytechnics were child play when they see the quality of what is in the University, it's not to downgrade anybody but Nigerian polytechnics nowadays are not what it's used to be...going to polytechnic doesn't mean u r less smart cos I believe some students in Poly will do well if not more than some University students in the tower of knowledge

I still don't understand the morale of your smiley... Life is a privilege, everybody is not destined to attend a university, the same way everybody is not destined to be rich

Always try to appreciate the effort of people even though what they are doing does not interest you... I just hope you people start viewing life in a good dimension

less time in school?
Hope you are telling the truth. I have a friend, that complained to me that a single day he may have up to 10 hours lecture.

I am a polytechnic graduate. Distinction (first class). Kaduna Polytechnic.
This is my submission: OP is very very right. We have to be honest to ourselves. I served in a polytechnic(Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri) as a graduate assistant. In my interaction with students, i was shocked to my marrows when I found that some of them could not read! Yes. You heard me right. How on earth did they get admitted I had to resort to something unusual. I would only mark your assignment scripts if you read what you have written, to me. It was crazy.

I have been fortunate to get very good jobs. Rose to branch management level in less than 4 years of a banking career that eventually lasted about 7 years during which I worked at three very solid Nigerian banks. I presently own my own firm where I employ both polytechnic and university graduates.

Truth is, I will never recommend polytechnic to even my worst enemy. Some graduates like myself and a few others that I know; can stand their ground against any university graduate from anywhere in the world. But I come across polytechnic graduates everyday and most of them make me ashamed to say I graduated from a similar institution. What is even more disheartening is the discrimination and frustration in the labour market. I graduated over a decade ago alongside 200 others. I'm not exegerating, I can hardly count 20 of us who got what can be said to be good jobs. It's mostly contract here, casual there. Who wants to waste 5-6 years of his life for that? It's so frustrating.

A good number of Nigerian polytechnics have been so degraded and reduced to glorified secondary schools. You see polytechnic students who claim to be upper credit candidates but who cannot compose a simple error-free text message. It's so sad.

I think it's best govt scraps the whole polytechnic thing. The frustration out there is just not it

Well.... It all starts with the government and the nigeria education policy. This restricts polytechnics from doing what would make their graduates equal to that of the universities......... Hate it or love it..... There is a cabal preventing nigerian polytechnics from stretching its wings of excellence!

Yeah you could be right, but from my findings, uniuyo pays 60-50, poly 40+ - 30+

And most cheap universities are in the north... I was born and bred there, don't want to go back north... I'm sure you know why. Kano precisely...

Re: 9 Reasons Why Nigerian Universities Are Better Than Polytechnics by tosyne2much(m): 11:09am On Feb 25, 2016
In as much as I wouldn't deny the fact that polytechnics students are considered half-baked and are unjustly discriminated. All I can say is that only a person who lacks focus will be swayed by the discriminatory comments levied against polytechnic students. However, being focused and determined to be successful is a thing of the mind which is not subject to Bsc nor HND

As for me, circumstances led me to attend a polytechnic and I'm of the believe that it's not an excuse for not attaining greatness in life. I'm not a failure who would justify my inability to do exploits on Bsc. Certificate is just a stepping stone that creates opportunity. It's not that someone's destiny is tied to Bsc or HND... So because of this thread, I should tear both my ND and my intending HND certificate and opt for Bsc ryt? U must be kidding cheesy

What matters most is personal development/expertise and I have developed myself in such a way that most of my friends with Bscs as well as people I meet on a daily basis find it extremely difficult to match up with my horizon especially when we get to do things together (I'm not bragging, it's just the pure truth). So whether you give 1000 reasons as to why university students are better than polytechnic students, for all I care because I know I'm determined and I'm going places

Hardwork is the key to success.. You can't be lazy and unproductive thinking that your Bsc will do the magic. On the other hand, you can't be unproductive and lazy thinking that your HND will do the magic. I don't get worked up over things like this. Some illiterates are even living in luxury, why? because they were able to get their priorites right

The more we stop placing so much emphasis on certificate, the greater our chances of achieving greatness in a country where poverty/joblessness is on the increase.

All the points op raised are very valid. I graduated from a university and I now lecture in a polytechnic. I guess I am in a more convenient position to analyse this.

Some guys claim that HND holders are more practically inclined than BSc holders. that is why they claim they are better but if that is a yardstick for measuring capabilities, I could as well say graduates from technical colleges are as well better than HND holders because they are more practically inclined than the polytechnic graduates. CLASSIC FALLACY !!!

Why are HND graduates not given lecturing positions without a PGD in the polytechnics that produced them while BSc holders are absorbed immediately into the academic staff cadre of the same school?
Can we also call this discrimination?

Poly is better when it comes to practicals.

Universities do the theory aspect more

While

Polytechnics do the practical aspect.

Am example is petroleum training institute (PTI) @Warri, Delta state. No good graduate there is jobless because everyone knows the school as superb
you won come compare pti with fupre..?
