You are son's of oduduwa
Abi you no hear when olu of warri

I am surprise Yorubas are displaying this sort of forceful "attachment" and "grab" attitude to a tribe that was formed just 400 hundred years ago?

This is what Itshekiri nation had to say about their origin:

"History of Itsekiri
The Itsekiri are a peculiar and unique people in the Nigerian Niger delta. They have inhabited their homeland, which now constitutes the three Warri Local Government Areas of Delta State, Nigeria, for centuries. The Itsekiri have rich traditional and cultural practices.

Itsekiri modern history dates from the late fifteenth century when the Itsekiri people adopted a prince from Benin Kingdom as their monarch. Prior to this time, Itsekiri lived independently in different communities that included Irigbo, Ureju, Omadino and Ugborodo. With the arrival of the prince and adoption of the monarchy. These communities coalesced to become a Kingdom. The current monarch is Ogiame Atuwatse II, who was crowned at an impressive ceremony in 1987.

History reveals that in several waves of migration before the 15th Century, and some a little later, groups from Igala in Nupe country came in through the creeks; Yoruba from ljebu-Ode, Akure and Owo found their way into parts of the Kingdom and a group from Aboh (Igbo) also came in. Some along the coast came in through Gulani/Amatu."

This wholesale acquiescence without recognizing other variables should stop already.

There's nothing wrong with being attached to a group of people. .southern Nigeria needs more attachments and less division.
even among yorubas we have our diversity. ...Itsekiri and Ilaje for example are so similiar that if Ilaje is yoruba I see no reason why itsekiri cannot be yoruba

My dear take ur hatred out of here, stop creating bad blood b/w both tribe, When it comes to itsekiri u can't denial the connection b/w itsekiri/Edo and Itsekiri/ilaje/Yoruba .... Yes itsekiri is itsekiri, Yoruba is Yoruba, Yoruba's already accepted the fact..

The itsekiri's have lived peacefully with her Yoruba brothers for yrs, we dont need you to tell us who are our frnds and enemy, As the yoruba nation has done us nothing wrong , Dont bring your igbo/Yoruba hatred here, We actually dont need it.. Bye and Bleep out of this thread..

Always adopting Benin prince as king from Ooni of Ife, Oyo to Itsekiris, Binis must be a special colonial masters to Yorubas

itsekiri is a tribe on its own,no doubt.but geneology and etymology has linked us largely to d yoruba nation especially d IJEBUS AND D OWO axis,d itsekiri(iwere)nation has always existed prior to d "iginuwa"advent, communities like odé ugorodo,odé itsekiri,ureju,omadino,.....has always existed even before d ijaws of "gbaran clan" (now gbaramatu) came to d scene.now, apart from the royal council ,d binis have virtually no cultural influence on d itsekiris.
the "nexus" between d yoruba, ilajes and ditsekiris cannot b swept under, even tho we are distinct as a tribe,my broda "blood is thicker dan water"

I know, but we just have to leave it in their hands to keep doing that. We don't need to claim anyone. We need to pay attention to people who say they are Yoruba in Kogi and leave behind those in Ilaje for instance that can't give you a 'yes or no' answer to "are you Yoruba?". Unfortunately, this is where we are, and we need to consolidate on those who are not afraid to say they are Yoruba now for future purpose. This is the time to know who really sees us as one people and those who can be what ibos are to Nigeria now, to our Yoruba country, if we get one.
