asamaigho: I strongly disagree with you on the bolded... saying the Itsekiri have no bini cultural influence is unacceptable, so how did we got things from..?.. they fell from the sky or were ? i know there is a strong bond b/w Yoruba and itsekiri which goes beyond culture, Its in our DNA 2 Likes |

Identity crisis is a terrible thing! What you said shouldn't make sense to you if you are not beni/ibo, It's like saying Nigeria colonised British, which is a big lie. Check yourself and your life history, we left with you everything British left with Nigeria on a smaller scale, and that should tell you that, Yoruba colonised you. Rayhut: 1 Like 1 Share |

You need to enroll in English classes. I don't claim to understand English, but with the very comment I quoted, you are wrong. It could have applied only to what you meant if it were in parentheses sorry you need English classes. Goodboiyy: |

Wyttcat: u actually quoted me wrongly, @goodboy was right,i neva said ijebu adopted bini king, rather i said d itsekiris whose descents can be traced to d ijebus and owos adopted a bini prince. lets stop d insults, it aint worth it, we are here to learn or rather showcase historical knowledge. 1 Like 1 Share |

I didn't quote you wrongly, I just responded to what you wrote which i don't know if you did it on purpose but, I just couldn't allowed that to stick. No problem we are all here to learn but admit it when wrong or made a mistake, it doesn't cost a thing. asamaigho: 1 Like 1 Share |

The guy Goodboiyy thinks he's smart. He strolled in like a neutral person, saluting Yoruba and Itsekiri, and at the same time using the biggest comb he could find to separate the two, making sure he establish total different identities for both with nothing connecting them directly, he was short of placing Fulani in between Yoruba and Itsekiri. I wonder why anyone would go to such length, and this makes it clear that this guy is NOT Itsekiri. So if he's not itsekiri, why is he interested in their affairs this much? asamaigho: 1 Like 1 Share |

What I Know is. Warri once was part of old Western region. Itsekiri people speaks language similar to Yoruba language even some of their names sounds like Yoruba, Omawunmi(Omowunmi), Temisan, Omatshola(Omoshola) and Oritsefemi (Orishafemi) but their mode of dressing is similar to Owo/Benin/Ilaje. |

When I lived in Warri, I always wondered why Itshekiri names sound like Yoruba names. So, I ask an Itshekiri woman what this was all about. She told me that many of their ancestors came from Ijebu Ogun State and that was how Yoruba filtered into the language and culture. It seems the amala-people are rebuilding cultural bridges with their cousins all over the country. I am suspicious and wonder what they are up to. Its either they are warming up the land for Yoruba presidency or they are trying to shame the bini political hacks who were making noise the other day. Whatever the case maybe, I will keep my eye on amala-people. I know them well - they will never make a move without a reason. 1 Like 1 Share |

asamaigho: Yes there you get it wrong.. You can't denial Edo influence on itsekiri, Apart from The Royalty, only few itsekiri communities existed then, It was Ignuwa that brought everybody together and whence the itsekiri nation existed , Also everything about itsekiri culture is 90%-98% Edo influence.. infact the only connection that link itsekiri to yoruba is the language, Everything else na Edo Cc: Onuwaje over to you 1 Like 1 Share |

Goodboiyy:Before ginuwa came there were aboriginal ypruba fishing communities namely omadino, orugbo, obodo etc.. This settlements were independent and dependent on fishing, answerable to nobody before ginuwa came. Omadino always pay reference to their founder nenuwa who came from ijebu waterside U av said it all. Apart from the language itsekiri bears no similarities with d yoruba nation. Thats my itsekiri is more like an hybrid tribe |

Goodboiyy: i totally disagree with on the above, IN SIMPLE TERMS, CULTURE IS THE WAY OF LIFE OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE,now check the following and compare lifestyle of the iwere people. 1.food.....indigenous 2 dressing.....indigenous(wrapper)/portugese,(kimeje) 3.language....yoruba(ijebu/owo dialect) with no trace of bini 4.marriage ......indigenous 5. names.......yoruba 6.festivals.......indigenous/yoruba 7.royal system.......bini (just likemost tribes in southern nigeria) e.g ,onitsha, ndokwas, isokos, urhobos etc. trust me,apart from d royal system adopted from d binis............ asamaigho:U r right and wrong.. Like i stated earlier. Itsekiri is an hybrid tribe. Mixture of benin yoruba et al. Y most people believe and feel we r more close to benin nation is because we the itsekiris were unfied as one tribe by d benins. Prior to that the few fishing settlements that were in existence were not under and empire eida the oyo or benin empire 1 Like |

Goodboiyy: nah bro. Ilaje is 100% yoruba. 1. their origin is Ile-Ife 2. they observe the veneration of yoruba deities from Ife, Itsekiri and Bini venerate yoruba deities too 3. their language is a Yoruboid language. ..in fact a dialect of yoruba language so is itsekiri 4. their Founder came from Ife and was in fact an Ooni it doesn't take much more than this to be yoruba of course Ilaje and itsekiri will have Edo influence, These are easternmost yoruba speakers on the edges of Edo cultural realm but itsekiri culture is more indigenous plus ancestral (Ijebu) than extracted from Bini. Bini also learnt from Itsekiri and Ilaje. ..it was never a one way train |
