Sometimes ago, I made a post here that a big farm owner was mad me for opening this thread. She offer nothing less than 5,000 crates of egg to Lagosians weekly and still counting. It is like her advise is hunting me for real. I was talking to a big farm in Ibadan for about 2 weeks now. When the farm representative visited Lagos for talks, I ''foolishly'' informed some distributors near me who were looking for the item to join me in a chat with the visitor. We had a nice talk. Our agreement was superb. We were waiting for the supplies to commence only for one of the invited distributors to cut others off all of us and cornered the contact. Now, learn your lessons. If you are not dealing with someone of high integrity and straight character, you may lose contacts. May be, when you have a contact unless it is a farm that deals with only registered distributors and you are bringing in new distributors to their office, you may be sidelined. Always get yourself established before becoming a good Samaritan. 5 Likes |

Lesson for starters. Elderly women are bound to be the bulk of your clients. I have news for you - many of them are chronic debtors, and I mean CHRONIC DEBTORS. Unfortunately, they do not blink a bit about it. Being in the business, they know it inside out more than you. Once they see you, they know what you want and they give it to you with lots of extras. However they have their plans which you do not have a faint idea of. You will be quite glad getting to know them and making them your clients. At the beginning, they will pay you instantly. When they must have gauged your strength in the business better, they will slam you with a credit offer. In many cases, you may never get that money back again. When you do, it will be in bits and pieces which you may not account for what it was used for. These women are the greatest clients to Micro-Finance banks and lots of ISUSU/AJO group. They rob Akin to pay Udeme. If the debts piles up so much, they make huge others from new suppliers in town egg distributors inclusive. The cash accruing from the sales of your item is used to off set an old bill while they start managing you. Have you cared to dig out why they are dumping their old supplier for you? You may think you are smart or that your presentation is above board, some of these women are never interested in such. Of course many of them are illiterates and careless about what 'real' business entities care about. They switch in most cases due to old debt. What can you do about this? - do cash and carry if you can - when credit is advanced, be minimal in what you give out - ask questions about their old suppliers - come around their business premises unannounced and join them in sales with a story that you are waiting for a friend in the neighbourhood. Such visits must be in the dead evening when suppliers comes for payment. Their stories will tell you whom they are debtwise. - ask some neighbours about their integrity as business people. 1 Like |

Blackie, no need for playing the CID or Secret agent style. My advise, do cash and carry. And make it a principle. I have been there, this issue is not limited to the women, I still have unpaid debt from a registered company I supplied eggs to 4yrs ago. 2 Likes |

Yes cash and carry should be the standard. But this is absolutely for those who have access to hundreds of crates of eggs weekly. For some starters who can get only 50 crates, they cannot try such even those getting only 100 crates cannot work with such. |

Re: My Experience In Egg Distribution Investment. by yazz09(m): 8:22pm On Feb 24, 2016 |
me na only cash and carry i dey Ooo. if I'll give you credit at all its only on when you've given me more than 50%of the amount. Though only one person I don give credit on a bunch and it's because the eggs I got were just too small that I don't want to take it round. so I gave her credit just to let it be that I sold them. 1 Like |

The government make policies that dictate how her citizens do business. In Nigeria, there is policy oscillation thus investors are skeptical to making ''real'' investment. In the poultry farming, once the borders are not well manned both eggs and frozen chicken comes in and that makes the local investors operate at a loss. The recent high patronage we are witnessing in eggs and live chickens are all result of government aid by blocking its coming through the land borders. Do you see how the government decides? Do you get it? mikolo80: |

What about Obasanjo farms? Its flooding Surulere now. Some farms are having left overs now. The farm I picked from today, increased our ration and also have some left after all the distributors in the list have been served. Just that they work with only those in their list at the moment. scampy: |

Blackkie: Not a good idea. When u have too many oga, there will be problem. Especially when there is low volume of production, who gets 1st? I have a good friend who is an executive with Mr. Biggs. Mr. Biggs is owned by UAC. UAC has a farm that was sold to some Lebanese investors on the condition that eggs will be sold to Mr. Biggs 1st before anyone else. Guess what? They cant even meet up with the supply. If people buy into the investment with the understanding that they will get egg and they didnt, there will be hell to pay 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: My Experience In Egg Distribution Investment. by Blackkie: 9:22am On Feb 25, 2016 |
So Mr Biggs is already using the same idea! Think of it, if Mr Biggs is sourcing their eggs from the general market, what will it be for them? The idea of ''technical'' investing is to assure the distributor or end user of constant availability of the item. It may not be absolutely enough for him/her but such an entity will never lack the item. If a group of 10 distributors advanced N1,000,000.00 to a farm on the technical investing option and they get guaranteed 1000 crates weekly, all they will do is to share it among themselves as they are equal partners. In my analysis, such investment is geared towards sourcing of the egg and never to own a farm jointly with anyone. The money deposited is only but a ''bond'' that will not be touched for the agreed time frame. The eggs advanced to them weekly will be paid for on cash and carry basis. Once the contract is dissolved, the farm hands over the money to the investors. USAutoBuy: |
Re: My Experience In Egg Distribution Investment. by goke4all(m): 9:38am On Feb 25, 2016 |
Blackie, you make me laugh, 1M for 1000 eggs, you need to know what investment would deliver 1,000 crates of eggs weekly. 1000 birds will give you a max of 180-200 crates a week and that investment will cost the farmer a min of 2M. so the farmer needs minimum of 5000 -6000 birds to give you that. |
Re: My Experience In Egg Distribution Investment. by Blackkie: 10:08am On Feb 25, 2016 |
Did you read my proposal on this issue - of course NO. The deal is this, some farmers are skeptical about sells especially when there is glut in the system. You are not giving them money to rear birds for you. All you are doing is giving the farmer something to hold on to as a concrete evidence that you are serious to buy of his produce - do you get it? This is like being a brand representative. You know how this came about? A farm is somewhere in Ogun state, they have all it takes to expand but due to experience during buyers regime, they will not do so. So to make them come out and take the risk, they asked for the deposit. Do you think someone will deposit such an amount and will not work with the agreement that will guarantee you availability of eggs all year round? goke4all: |

Soonest, eggs will be everywhere. Its like there is a special grace that floods Surulere with this item when other areas are complaining. |

I believe you may not have forgotten your elementary economics in secondary school. Also, I believe you follow the information flow in Nigeria media and that of government policies. Can you tell me when poultry farming became lucrative in Nigeria? 20 years ago are we talking about owning a farm or the quantity of poultry products imported into Nigeria? Whatever we are enjoying today as regards poultry farming is dividends from OBJ government. If our borders are opened today, all our farms will close for good. Farmers in Europe get their loans at 3% per annum while in Nigeria, you get it at 23% - can you compete with them? Is there any farm in Nigeria who owns 3 shifts of birds of a million each? A closed border against agricultural items is an aid to egg distribution. mikolo80: 2 Likes |

Blackkie:no sir I haven't
yes
ignorance was responsible nobody wanted to study Agric cos the teachers were incompetent and not motivated (only interested in salary yes lucky break agreed and my point exactly we have a toehold and instead of taking Agric (poultry, fishery, and the maize and soya that foundations it) to the next level (economies of scale via stock market or coops as I am vehemently suggesting, we're banking on protectionism from politicians that would happily sell their mothers for greed and selfish reasons we make 2 to 300% profit do they? every pro has its con my point exactly cos every body happy with their 1000 birds so long as they can buy one second hand jeep and build their small house (local championism ) so you're waitin for lava (not even rain) to fall bfor you plant
