You can determine training by how competent and qualified some is.

Now who is a competent person : a competent person is one who knows well enough to get the job done properly. He has the capacity to identify existing hazards and predicting hazards in the work area that is dangerous to work men and he has the authority to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

Qualified person: is someone who by possession of a recognized degree, certificate or professional standing or who by training, extensive knowledge and experience has successfully demonstrated that he has the ability to resolve or solve problems relating to work.

From the above definitions you can determine training by some ones qualifications and his ability to get work done for example in hse, his ability to identify hazards, manage risk and all this is as a result of being trained.

You can also determine training by monitoring, supervising and measuring performance.

Note: its possible for one to be qualified but not competent hence how competent one is determines how trained or how effective the training one has undergone is.

I am so happy that this kind of forum exist. I studied Music (Double Major) @ NCE and I am really desperate to change my field to Health Safety Environment and Management System.
Please I need serious advice on the steps to take, moreso, is there any prospect of getting a job?
Which institute is relevant to take the courses?
Do anybody in the house know how I can get some past questions or material for study?

I do not want to be misled. Is Novell centre an accredited institute internationally? And it seems that NISP is solely focused in Nigeria.

Novelle center is only a training center for ehs courses, its different from Nisp which is now Ispon. Ispon is a safety body generally recognized in Nigeria just like ICAN and d likes. Just to clarify DT, novelle center is a good training center choice for Nebosh courses. If u want to d d preliminary safety course like d Hse1, ghse, fire safety etc I'll advise u go to NISP now Ispon

U don't need any material for HSE1 and 3 and moreover I doubt if there are any soft copies available. Register for Hse1 with Nisp, u will be given textbooks during training. There's no exam involve in HSE 1-3, pass or fail u will get ur certificates. Its a sitter, after those, u can now brace up for d real deal .Nebosh courses. Goodluck

Just read your manuals very well...either RMS or RRC. I have a lot of nebosh past questions but I have never opened it once. I don't believe in past questions.

Not to discredit Novelle center, I think they are a good training facilitator but like I said earlier, ISPON is still d most advisable when it comes to d fundamental HSE. Its 35k for d GHSE and 15k for the HSE3 with ISPON. U can get a discount of up to 10k naira on d ghse if u are a youth corper. And as per level, there is no level to HSE courses depending on training facilitator. HSE courses are same. Nebosh in novelle is d same as nebosh in hybrid consulting. Same applies to HSE 1-3 but sometimes preferences are being given depending onbur training facilitator or platform. Cheers

Good day everyone here.. Is it that people are no longer interested in the truth? The true situation of things now is that before you can establish your own Safety training centre in Nigeria it must be approved by ISPON. ISPON is backed by law of the federal Republic of Nigeria, ISPON ACT 2014. To be a safety practitioner in Nigeria you must be a financial member of ISPON. what does it take to become a member? You must have undergo General HSE training (45k) and HSE Competence Level 3(25k) this is what we call HSE Supervision. Once you are done with this you can now start the process of becoming a member by picking the form, you will write a Technical paper of any safety topic of your choice, after finishing the two trainings above you must definitely be over loaded with several topics since you must have gathered enough knowledge on safety, then you sit for an exam and defence of your technical work, all this I achieved after my service. For those around the Eastern part of the country you can easily run yours in Awka branch , am in Asaba yet I belong to this branch and not Warri branch because Awka is closer that warri from Asaba, they will be starting their training soon soon and the process of induction of new members will also commence soon , so the earlier you begin the process the better for you . Point to note *you can do HSE Level 3 before General HSE, GHSE is more expensive compare to HSE 3 yet HSE competence level 3 is higher (All accidents are incident but not all Incidence are Accident ), the best method to prevent fire is not allowing it to occur at all. ISPON don't collect cash payment, you must pay to the bank, go to the branch and collect their account details.

Oshacademy certification is well recognized as the oshacademy deals with health safety and environment according to america standards. oshacademy is an american body that provides occupational safety and health education and development just like Nebosh, iosh, cieh are British bodies that provide occupational safety and health education and development.

However Nebosh through it's marketing strategy seem to be more popular and has established itself as a leading body for occupational health and safety plus the fact that its coming from a country (United Kingdom) that is known for high educational standards.

They inspect work places, give advice's, close down work places that are violating, give fines and charge to court defaulters.
