Nigeria has commenced discussions on partnerships towards establishing a national airline for the country, according to the Presidency.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said this in a statement issued yesterday from Qatar where President Muhammadu Buhari is currently on a state visit.

He, however, did not provide details of the proposed national carrier.
The minister of state for aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, had said in Abuja earlier this month that President Buhari had set up a committee for the establishment of a national carrier even before appointing his ministers.
Adesina also stated that Nigeria and Qatar yesterday in Doha signed the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to pave way for direct flights between major cities of both countries.
He said Sirika signed on behalf of Nigeria while Qatar’s Minister of Transportation and Communications, Jassim Bin Saif Alsulaiti, signed on behalf the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hammad Al-Thani.
He said the agreement which was signed in the presence of both leaders was expected to operate on the principle of reciprocity by the designated airlines on behalf of the countries.
Adesina said it was also expected that the agreement on the bilateral air service would promote trade, commerce and tourism between the two countries.
He further stated that on the sideline of Buhari’s state visit, Nigeria and Qatar also signed an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion.
He said Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, signed the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes income with her Qatari counterpart, Ali Shareef Al Emadi.

Change is when we start patronising our product over foreign product
Change is never a scam
Change is a process
Change is dynamic
Change is painful from the beginning
Change is when leaders are working for the masses
Change is inevitable
Change is when consequences have equal action
Change is when wailers wail all the time
Change is a gradual process
Change also have enemies
Change is a "group thinking" result
But at the END we will all be proud of our country

Change is here to stay

Nonsense
Why do Nigerians especially the so called sophisticated ones have short memories.
Have we forgotten why Nigerian Airways was discarded in the first place.
Have we forgotten how nepotism tribalism corruption and peoples attitude to government properties destroyed Nigerian Airways NITEL NEPA NPA etc
Why not the useless government restore NITEL why banning other networks if we feel they are on the right path.

I personally don't like this!! National carrier for what exactly?

Pmb should stop reminiscing about Nigerian Airways ojare, that is dead and gone..

No matter how noble the idea is,it's almost a sure bet that it would fail, Nigerians are not nationalistic in our dealings..

Government should restrict itself to creating enabling environment for private airline businesses to thrive not "owning" one...

My 2k. cool

Seriously.
Government properties are seen as no man's properties
When will this useless government realise that restructuring Nigeria is the path to prosperity and security
True Federalism, privatisation etc are essential for growth and development

GenBuhari:
Madam,
A national airline is a matter of national pride and prestige.

When even small countries like Ethiopian and Kenya have national airlines, Nigeria needs to have one to be taken seriously in the community of nations as an African superpower.

Our lack of Airline means Nigerian travellers have to pay more than other nationals to fly to and from Nigeria and are given poor service and disrespect by Airlines of certain countries.
God bless you, it's really needed. Could remember flying etihad and had a stop over of over 8hrs at Abu Dhabi and got no choice than sit at the airport all thru. If we had a national carrier it would have been a direct flight.

Tell me one business, just one, that the government has ever run successfully.

Here we again. Another era if waste is upon us.

This government obviously has it's priorities upside down.

It is hilarious that a government that promises to reinvent government is so busy trying to expand government.

This is the primary reason I think Buhari cannot achieve anything meaningful for Nigeria in the short and long runs.
Buhari is weened on the school of thought that thinks that BIG GOVERNMENT is the solution to every problem.

Whereas, all over the world, history has shown small government allows the most efficient allocation of resources.

A welcome development...

This will surely be a source of income to the FG and reduce our capital flight and boost our economy, if properly managed.

This obsession with a national carrier has to stop, we should be moving away from government running companies to just being a regulator.

Bad Idea.
