NaijaPikinGidi: What an excellent speech by the minister. She is using a strategy to convince the opposition that new assets are needed. The problem is that when SAAF wants to buy new planes, the opposition always opposed it by asserting that it was wasteful expenditure. Now, she is using a clever strategy that "since you do not want government to buy new aircrafts, then we will continue sending our pupil pilots to Russia and Cuba to get their wings". In this case the opposition will have no choice but to go with the flow and allow the government to buy new aircrafts, I mean brand new aircrafts. The aircrafts she is referring to are those that were used by old apartheid air force and now are in the museum because they were actioned to the public by apartheid government. They can never be recovered because they are old and belong to the museum. Soon, opposition will give in and SAAF will announce a new arms deal of procuring new aircrafts. Among them will be maritime, transporters, etc. The mission has just began. Good luck Madam Minister by putting it straight to their faces that you cannot complain about pupil pilots being sent to other countries while you always oppose Air Force from going shopping. They will just have to give the minister a fat cheque to go on shopping and bring us brand new assets and not hand outs. They will just have to allow among others for the new Rooivalks, transporters, Maritime aircrafts, etc. 4 Likes |

agaugust: I have never made such submission. All I am saying is that even pirates know that from Angola down to the far South, the water is infested with Sharks(submarines) and Crocodiles(Frigates) and that's why when they hijack ships anywhere near Angola, they would always head towards the North. If they head towards at least they are rest assured that they stand 80% chances to succeed and towards the South the success rate is zero. They wouldn't just take the risk of falling prey to sharks and crocodiles, rather would go the route where there are plenty of dolphins in the North. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 9:25am On Feb 28, 2016 |
croat: Yes, that is possible. The minister only awaits approval, that's why she told the parliament straight to their faces that you leave me with no choice. I will continue sending them to other parts of the world because when I request money to buy necessary assets, you make noise. I think now they have heard, particularly EFF. What is now left is for EFF to be convinced that aircrafts which are already in the museum cannot be recovered as they are already resting on their graves. I am pleased that minister managed to sway them and now they can see that indeed there is a pressing need. Now is the time for Airbus and many companies to start flocking once again in Pretoria. The fat cheque is on the way. With regard to Rooivalk, if Sweden or France can come in with the possible exchange of TOT of their fighters, that will indeed be a killer blow that will help stimulate the economy of SA. 1 Like |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by croat: 10:07am On Feb 28, 2016 |
FighterPilot: French won't be interested in Rooivalk since they are producing Eurocopter Tiger. French will sell you tech if the price is right, a-darter for rafale and mokopa for tiger. TOT for Rooivalk independence, replace airbus parts with french without strings attached. Swedes on other hand would love to produce fully domestically to save the cash, Rooivalk needs to be adapted to artic like conditions. You only need to get rid off US parts. Brazil can help with that and they are interested in Rooivalk. To pull it off you would need to be very careful in political manuvering and I would reccomending ditching Russia and China because there is no real benefit long term. 2 Likes |

Denel’s Casspir now comes with firepower options That it can now be fitted with 81mm mortar systems‚ anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons makes the Casspir the “most cost-effective vehicle in its class in the world”. That’s according to arms manufacturer Denel‚ which on Monday said the “versatility and range of Denel’s Casspir mine-protected vehicles has been expanded to accommodate the firepower requirements of different clients”. “This will attract the interest of defence clients looking for a versatile and cost-effective family of mine-resistant vehicles.” And‚ not only can “clients…select the type and range of firepower required to be fitted‚ the new variants of the Casspi 2000 can be fitted with the Plofadder mine-clearing system. Ashley Williams‚ general manager of Mechem – Denel’s mine-clearing division – said this is a reponse to “opportunities in defence markets where clients need a single platform with a number of variants to meet operational requirements”. Denel said it “is now able to produce a tailor-made Casspir according to the requirements of the client”‚ by fiiting “different modules…onto the standard platform system and then modified according to client specifications”. “Our clients can now use the same family of vehicles that offer superior levels of protection and mobility‚ but in different roles‚” said Williams. http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2016/02/29/Denel’s-Casspir-now-comes-with-firepower-options 1 Like |

Henry240: I have never seen a coward South African. They are brave by nature. They have naturally inherited the blood of Shaka. Burundi, SA excelled, Bangui, they excelled in averting the attack of their troops from being killed in mass and in Darfur they have as well been doing well until the ICC came with their nonsense. |

kizfaz: Fear of armed robbers, SANDF fears ordinary bread knife, talk less of guns. So much for their so called training....LOL....they claim training is > experience....so where is the training now? can now be confirmed that the incident happened in Darfur, Sudan. A platoon of SANDF soldiers were on their way to relief another platoon on deployment when they were ambushed by unknown attackers. The soldiers were robbed of their bullet-proof jackets, all their rifles and other equipment, as well as three 4X4 vehicles. Luckily the attackers did not make off with their RG-32 (Mamba) armoured vehicles. A technical team of the SANDF has been sent to Darfur to investigate the incident. What is worrying is that this is the second time that this has happened and if they were ambushed, the question is asked what happened to their counter-ambush immediate action drills? http://www.aafonline.co.za/news/sudan-sandf-patrol-%E2%80%98robbed%E2%80%99-questions-asked . 2 Likes |
