Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 6:59pm On Mar 01, 2016 |
I'm really busy these days and sorry I'm unable to scrutinize your SOP. Please read my old posts where I have provided advice on what an SOP should contain. I would help you but I just receive too many PM requests and SOP assistance requests that i am not physically able to help due to time constraints. Cheers & good luck. donsunnyjjayy: 1 Like |

Congrats @BreadandBeans, did you have an undergraduate degree before this? Or will this be your first undergraduate degree? Just curious. Could you also list your profile so that other people would benefit? E.g. year & course of past qualification, what you've been doing since then, age, documents submitted, etc... |

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 7:15pm On Mar 01, 2016 |
Renew your passport before you leave Naija, and take both passports with you to the POE in which case the POE officer will give you a four-year study permit. If you don't renew your passport before you leave Naija however, then you'll put yourself in a bit of a pickle because the POE officer can only give you a study permit that lasts as long as your passport. This means that shortly after landing in Canada, you would have to rush to Ottawa to renew your Naija passport after which you would need to apply to CIC for a study permit extension; all this would make your life stressed out. This would cost you lots of extra money and time, depending on where in Canada your school is located. So my advice is to just jejely renew the passport asap before you leave Naija. bencheda: 3 Likes |

thesoj: Okay.. Thanks a lot, i understand that u are really busy these days, i am really convinced that my SOP will convey my message explicitly to VO. I just need some tips from u on how to elaborate more on the Home ties aspect, i read earlier in the thread that u were able to help your sis out with that. Where she was stating the ways in which she'll apply her skills in Nigeria. That's basically what i am trying to wrap my head around. P.s.: I have read through most of the previous threads as suggested! |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 7:32pm On Mar 01, 2016 |
Ok, good to know you read the thread closely. Responded to your PM request. PS: what is it about stating ways in which your skills would help Naija are you trying to wrap your head around? Pls respond on here so others can benefit. I will respond to your subsequent PMs only on issues that can't be addressed on here. Thx. donsunnyjjayy: 1 Like |

thesoj: I secured admission to study Web Development p.g.c at Humber college for the fall 2016 session, in order to satisfy the home/family ties during application do you think me saying i'll return to Nigeria after the course would be sufficient in the eyes of the VO or do i have to state my future plans plainly, as we all know plans change & i don't want it seem like i'm being deceitful or telling tall tales. P.s.: I also sent u a pm. |

olah23:was it form A you used? |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 8:29pm On Mar 01, 2016 |
donsunnyjjayy: Just saying you'll return to Nigeria after the course is absolutely not sufficient. Anybody can say that, you need to be absolutely and unambiguously convincing. The burden of proof is on you to state what you would do in Nigeria in the aftermath of your program. Do you have goals or ambition on what you could do in Nigeria with your Canada training? What are the economic opportunities that you would gain with this Canada training? You need to apply for the visa with the assumption & mindset that you won't be getting PGWP or PR (which is actually a real possibility fyi). It's ok for plans in the future to change, everybody (including the VO, they are not stupid_) knows that. I previously explained this here. You also need to closely link your past educational trajectory and work experience with both your Canada training and your future ambitions. You need to be as specific as possible. PS: I received your PM and read the SOP. Make the changes I recommended above and send another version. Take your time and don't be in a hurry. 5 Likes 1 Share |
