How Linda Ikeji Managed To Buy A House In Banana Island by cityAdventures: 3:09pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
…through grunt work…hard work if I must add. Sorry to disappoint you.. but this woman has become so successful through every didn’t of hard work and sweat she has put in over the years. That is the only way she has had so much traffic to her site, that is the only way she grew her brand and has made so much money. She publishes her first post atimes 3am every morning. At that time, what are you normally doing? I still suspect Linda does her posts and publishes them on her blog herself. Maybe by now she could have employed a couple of hired hands but she got this far by herself. I mean, this former Miss Nigeria contestant and former model of Bayo Hasstrup’s Ijade Egbin wakes up by 4am atimes even 3am (going by when her first post normally hits her blog. She often sleeps around mid night (going by time stamps on her blog) when we last see her online. So automated posts can be set up to publish at any time, how do you automate breaking news? Before sahara reporters even wakes up to in New York, Linda has done almost 70 to 80 posts. People think blogging is easy, if it was, every one will be Linda Ikeja and own a house in Banana Island. It is not. Okay, so maybe she is just a news aggregator, she doesn’t write, she just sources her articles and publishes, but sourcing news, saving pictures, scrolling through celebrity timelines on instagram and pasting posts and publishing them takes plenty of time and effort. I have been trying to count the number of posts Linda does everyday- at least a 100 new blog posts daily. She has high traffic numbers because people are guaranteed seeing something new once they go to her page- so they always go. If we all have an 18hour day to be productive, Linda does almost 10posts an hour- that means she is posting every 6minutes. For those of you who have blogs, do you know what it means to put up a post every 6minutes? If you use word press, where you have to copy and paste, set up a feature image, pick images from the media library, drop them in the text, copy and paste excerpts, optimize each post before publishing to blog and social media, then even sharing from social media to various timelines, you will know this is practically impossible. But hey, Linda uses , its easier to use. But then, even if you say she cant do 180 posts a day, lets say she does 100 a day (an 18 hour day, means she does a post every 12minutes). Take today, 1st of march for example. Her first post on her blog came shortly after 4am (actually 4.10am). It means shortly before 4am, she woke and started looking for news- 4am! At that time, many people, even federal directors are still sleeping to wake up at 8 or even 9. By 3pm this afternoon, linda had done almost 70posts, that is three score and 10 new stories in an 11 hour spell. If she keeps up at this pace today, she will do about 150 posts. Do you know what this means? Posting at this sort of rate- it means you practically have no life away from your system. Linda’s blog is her life, it seems she practically has no time to even entertain visitors, if she is doing one post every 12minutes. So many people want to be like Linda, but how many will condition themselves to sleep by 11 or 12midnight and be up as early as 4am? How many? By the time we wake and are looking at our twitter feed, Linda has already done half a dozen posts. This requires discipline- and this girl has it aplenty. Those of us who write know for you to research and write a good blog piece of about 2,000 words, complete with pictures (resizing, editing and posting) takes the better part of four hours. So, a blogger who writes political pieces, or scholarly pieces can barely do three posts a day, before he has to sleep. Cranking your brain to come up with these articles leaves you totally jaded and tired- brain work is even more tiring than physical exertion. So, if you are doing three posts a day, nobody needs to go to your page for a week. Every 7days, they know they can just go there once and read up your articles, all 20 of them. If you don’t do this every day, you maybe lucky to have 12 articles. At this rate, how do you get high numbers to rack up your alexa rankings for advertisers to take note? That is why it is easier for every blogger to be doing news, gossip and bla. It is easier to http://intercityadventures.com/2016/03/01/how-linda-ikeji-managed-to-buy-a-house-in-banana-island/ |

The problem is nowadays she has no exclusive Nigerian news to report. What gained her followers back in the day has reached a grinding halt; exclusive, scandalous celeyeyebrity gists. 99% of nollywood personalities have befriended her so she can't report news against them. She has been reduced to posting news about the Kardashians, eggplants and other foreign media personalities most Nigerians wouldn't care to know.
Even her poster content has dropped. You now see posts with 97 comments of which majority are 'k', 'yes', 'linda take note' and other mundane writeups. Most of her blog visitors are in it only for the monthly giveaways and not there to learn anything. I only visit the site now based on habit built over the years.

Love her or hate her, you can't take away the fact that she is really hardworking.
Linda is more of a news aggregator than writer. She sources news articles from various sources and publishes them. To write a solid blog article takes the better part of 45mins to an hour depending on the contents, so if she makes ten posts an hour then it means she is basically copying and pasting.
Linda doesn't blog alone anymore. She has staff writers who contribute to the blog. They all join in the dumbing down of the masses with inane yeyebrity news.
Most bloggers wanna be like Linda Ikeji but lack the passion, commitment and drive. The majority of bloggers in the blogosphere are copy and paste, with a large number of them passing through the unhallowed walls of Nairaland. They copy word for word from other blogs and jostle for home page coverage. Melogist, gistmelove and gist4kids come readily to mind. (sorry guys, no offence intended. I'm not hating. Just making an observation)
Anyway it's part of the hustle. If you want to stand out in the over-crowded blogosphere then you need to be unique. You need to stand out to be noticed. For example, instablog9ja is one blogger I admire. His posts are unique in the sense that the guy goes out of his way to add the extra to otherwise ordinary posts. Another is Lailasblog. She tries as much as possible to take a piece of news and blog about it DIFFERENTLY from other blogs.
These nairaland bloggers need to take note. Being Linda no be beans 4 Likes 3 Shares |

Being Linda no be beans That where you miss it, that bolded words are not meant for me, i dont copy word to word of other blogs and paste just to get to Frontpage coverage, i do add my own words, ideas to spice it up, yea i believe i do copy from other blogs (e.g misspetite and linda) but not always and even if i do i copy with humour, i do source for my own news too (i have many sources) so count me out and by the way just like OgidiOlu3 said to c and p sometimes sef is not that easy it needs hardworking for it to be accomplished, you can check some of post and see, i do really edit my post summary content just to stand out and i believe 90% of blogs do copy and paste from eachother's (e.g naijaloaded and co) but they do made some changes and that why they do stand out to be unique.... Here are a few reasons you missed; Some bloggers have a day job, hence making it difficult to sleep at 1am and wake up at 4am to do blog posts.
Some other bloggers have husbands and kids besides blogging, again making it difficult to blog at certain hours.
And then some have husbands, kids and jobs beside blogging.
Linda is able to do these because blogging is all she does. No husband, no kids and no other job. It's her only source of income, so! |

Depressing, huh? It evokes mixed feelings. On the one hand the relaxation of professional standards and compromise with ethics can be disturbing. However, non-professionals can enjoy the advantage of not being under the editorial control of politicians or special interest groups. An example would be wikileaks. |

Very very true. I'd say that Stella Dimoko's blog (SDK) has a far better poster content quality and substance than what you find on LIB these days. Diminishing returns has set in, I guess. It is only a matter of time before her ratings and earnings tumble. 1 Like |

Being Linda no be beans So you sabi English like this? Issoryt. |
